DFA backs Paulette Jordan for Governor of Idaho
Democracy for America (DFA) today endorsed its support for Paulette Jordan in the race to become Idaho’s next Governor.
First elected in 2014, Jordan represented North Idaho in the Idaho State House. In addition to her work in Boise, Jordan serves as Chair of the Energy, Natural Resources, and Transportation Committee for the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators and is a member of the Idaho Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. When elected, she will be the United States’ first Native American Governor.
DFA Chair Jim Dean on the grassroots group’s decision to endorse Paulette Jordan’s Idaho gubernatorial race:
“As Governor, Paulette Jordan won’t just be an unrelenting champion for progressive values in Idaho, she’ll be a historic trailblazer who will help bring the voices of all people to the halls of power in Boise and across the country.
“Democracy for America is excited to endorse Paulette Jordan for Governor because she’s building a smart, grassroots campaign focused on confronting the out-of-control, corporate interests that work to control Idaho.
“As a Democrat elected in conservative North Idaho, Paulette knows first-hand that Democrats win in red terrain, not by running from our progressive values, but by running on them and developing the inclusive populist coalition needed to realize their promise. We’re thrilled to be a part of her campaign.” -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
Paulette Jordan’s response to receiving DFA’s endorsement:
“Idahoans are tired of the imbalanced and unproductive political system they’ve endured for the past several decades. We’re tired of corporate money smothering our honest, democratic votes. Idahoans value the strength of our communities and the vitality of our land. We’re fiercely independent and we find power and dignity in our self-reliance, compassion and fundamental fairness. This is the spirit of Idaho. I have built my life around these values.
“Democracy for America shares these values which is why I am so humbled to receive their endorsement. DFA recognizes that this race is bigger than me and it’s bigger than party politics. I am so honored to have the support and endorsement of Democracy for America because they recognize the energy and urgency to elect progressive leaders in places like Idaho and I am excited to join their team. " -- Paulette Jordan
DFA has 7,230 members in the state of Idaho and more than one million members nationwide.
Jordan is the fifth gubernatorial endorsement DFA has made in the 2018 election cycle. Other gubernatorial endorsements the national grassroots progressive group has made this cycle includes Stacey Abrams in Georgia, David Garcia in Arizona, Andrew Gillum in Florida, and Ben Jealous in Maryland.
Democracy for America is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC with more than one million members nationwide committed to taking on income inequality, money in politics, and structural racism. Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $54 million and made more than 21.9 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 917 progressive candidates nationwide.
