State House of Representatives, District 31
Rep. Yadira Caraveo, MD proudly represents Adams County as the State Representative for Colorado House District #31. Currently the only medical doctor in the legislature, she utilizes her experiences from her eleven-year pediatrics career to improve our healthcare system and fight for working families state-wide.
A proud Latina and daughter of immigrant parents, Yadira grew up in the community she now represents. Prior to elected office, Yadira has supported working families through her medical career and through her advocacy efforts. Eleven years into her career as a pediatrician, she sees eighty patients per week when in clinic, and she has treated over three thousand children in Colorado and New Mexico. Meanwhile, her work with groups like the Union of Concerned Scientists was honored by the Obama White House when they designated her as a Champion of Change in 2013.
After the 2016 elections, she decided to get involved with her local Democratic party and run for the State House in 2018. As the Vice Chair of the House Health and Insurance Committee, she was a leader in the legislature’s response to the COVID-19 crisis during the 2020 session, carrying a best-in-the-nation paid sick leave bill that expanded paid sick days to all Coloradans. In her first term, she has also passed legislation to invest in primary care, reform prior authorizations for procedures and tests, promote comprehensive human sexuality education, provide $6 million in census funding, enact new stringent oil and gas regulations, and refer a nicotine tax measure to voters.
