Mondaire Jones is an attorney, nonprofit leader, and activist. He was born to a young, single mother and was raised in the district he’s running to serve. After he was born, his mother dropped out of college. She worked multiple jobs just to make ends meet, even with the aid of a Section 8 housing voucher from the federal government.

In his senior year at Stanford, when the Palo Alto Police Chief made public statements endorsing racial profiling, Mondaire organized his fellow students. Their efforts helped lead to the police chief’s resignation and reforms within the department.

While at Harvard Law School, Jones provided free legal services to indigent criminal defendants. Following law school, while at a firm, he dedicated hundreds of pro bono hours investigating claims of discrimination and helping victims of mortgage modification fraud.

So many people in New York’s 17th Congressional District are struggling. Residents pay the highest property taxes in the nation, yet wages have remained stagnant; Donald Trump’s cap on the State and Local Tax deduction has added to their burden. Crippled by student debt and low earnings, young adults live with their parents because they cannot afford to pay rent or buy a home. Healthcare costs continue to rise as insurance companies place profits over people.

When he is elected to Congress, Jones will be a leader in the fight for bold, progressive policies that benefit us all: student debt relief, Medicare-for-All, a $15 minimum wage, universal childcare, a Green New Deal, and criminal justice reform.
