Dayton City Council, District 10
Shenise is running for office because she is confident in her ability to represent the will and best interests of all residents and include them in the decision-making processes. Many times the community allows political parties to choose the leadership, who will, in turn, tout the party lines while lacking experience and compassion. Blind party allegiance and identity politics have discouraged qualified and experienced potential candidates from seeking elected office. Oftentimes minority women are excluded from these processes and conversations as a whole.
Shenise was inspired by the number of women who decided to run for office in 2018 - women who decided to lead and to lean in regardless of their background and experience in politics. This inspiration led Shenise to no longer request permission or beg for a seat at the table.
