Alexandria City School Board, District A
Marc Solomon and his wife settled in Alexandria because of its history, character, and commitment to progressive values. As millennial parents managing competing financial responsibilities including student loan debt, it took a while to afford a down payment for a house. Having settled in the community, with their son approaching school age, Marc decided to run for school board to ensure that all of Alexandria’s children regardless of race, creed, or economic status - receive a world-class education.
Marc is committed to addressing the legacy of Jim Crow and segregation that permeates across Alexandria’s school. There is a significant achievement gap problem in the city which Marc is dedicated to fixing. While his son’s future school and another in his district have made major strides in closing the achievement gap, Marc wants to ensure that students receive the same support and opportunity district-wide.
