Attorney General of Minnesota
Who am I?
Keith Ellison has been serving as the Representative of Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District since 2007 and as the Deputy Chair of the DNC since 2017. Keith has previously served as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Deputy Minority Whip and as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives for 58B (North Minneapolis) from 2002 - 2006.
Before being elected to Congress Rep. Ellison was a noted community activist and ran a thriving civil rights, employment, and criminal defense law practice in Minneapolis. Keith was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He has lived in Minnesota since earning his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1990. Keith is the proud father of four children.
Keith is running to be the People’s Lawyer to hold those in power accountable and to protect and defend all Minnesotans.
As a former civil rights attorney for 16 years, Keith knows the value of a good lawyer. In Congress, Keith took strong action to protect consumers, passing laws to fight credit card abuse and to stand up for the rights of tenants and renters, and founding the Congressional Antitrust Caucus.
As Attorney General, Keith will confront fraud and abuse, from student loans to drug prices, and will defend Minnesotans from the harmful effects of corporate monopolies. He will push for equal rights under the law, for commonsense gun safety laws, and for criminal justice reform that ends unjust policies and creates a pathway for Minnesotans to reeenter as contributing members of society.
Keith is by far the most progressive and accomplished person to be the People’s Lawyer for MN and has been fighting for our shared progressive values - fighting for working families to build an economy that works for all, civil, human, and voting rights, and against the harmful effects of climate change.
We have a crowded 5 way primary, and DFA’s support pre-primary is essential to Keith securing victory in the primary. Once in office, Keith will be one of the nation’s leading Attorneys General–the People’s Lawyer– fighting alongside DFA and other Minnesotans to advance progressive causes and justice for all.
