U.S. House, California 17
Ro Khanna is currently representing California’s 17th Congressional District - which he won in 2016 after his second hotly contested matchup against a beloved DFA-endorsed progressive champion, Mike Honda.
Though we were not on the same side in this intense primary fight in 2014 or 2016 - over his first year in Congress, Khanna has not only proven himself to be a critical progressive leader in the fight against Donald Trump bigoted agenda, but a bonafide champion in the battle to create a Democratic Party steadfastly committed to inclusive populist priorities like Medicare-for-all, free college, and comprehensive immigration reform.
From his work supporting candidates across the country who share our progressive values to his efforts to steel Democrats backbone in the DACA fight, Ro Khanna has fought for shared values with courage and conviction - and he’s been a leading advocate for the continued evolution of the Democratic Party into what it must become to meet this moment - a party dedicated to racial and economic justice, that recruits, supports, and represents the New American Majority voters, and does not rely on the outdated, rightleaning, disenfranchising conventional playbook. That’s the political strategy and vision Democrats will need to flip control of Congress in 2018, and it’s why Ro Khanna has become precisely the kind of leader progressives need in Congress.
