Protect Arizona’s Vote
Our work in Arizona has never been more important – there are several ballot measures expected to draw national attention, including marijuana legalization, and a key Senate race to fill the late Senator John McCain’s seat for the duration of his term. Arizona is absolutely a swing state going into the 2020 election after decades of being deep red, which raises the stakes even higher to have a fair and free electoral process.
Despite the global pandemic, Arizona voters still must request a vote by mail ballot in order to vote at home as opposed to receiving one automatically like in some states; however, voters may now request an absentee ballot online instead of having to mail in a request. Fortunately, a ruling at the beginning of this year overturned several of Arizona’s blatantly racist attempts at voter suppression, such as the discarding of hundreds of thousands of provisional ballots, and unconstitutionally banning ballot harvesting which disproportionately impacted communities of color.
