- Public Funding Elections

By EMILIO R on Nov 2, 2009 1:58 AM EST

I have been following the debate on health care, I have observed within the Democratic Party a great divide in the party, however the divide is not about the issues the divide is about were do I put my loyalty, those who have received large sums of money from the Insurance and Pharmaceutical industry are putting their loyalty with them, they have forgotten that they are supposed represent the people who voted them into office but they have chosen to represent the special interest instead, the country is fallen apart because our leaders are not in the business of doing what is best for the country they are in politics for their own personal gain, in fairness not all them can be put in the same basket, take the so call Blue Dogs who keep using the sorry excuse that they are fiscal conservatives and for this reason they can not support the public option even with overwhelming evidence that the public option will actually save money they continue to spin it as it would cost more. the solution is very simple PUBLIC FINANCING FOR ELECTIONS, make it illegal and against the law for any elected official to accept contributions from anyone for any reason, if they do impeach them from office and send them to jail for breaking the law.

Note: Public Financing for elections would mean that someone who has the intelligence but not the money would be able to compete for public office, thus weeding out those who are in it for their self interest and do nothing to better the country.

- there needs to be a IRV primary process to narrow the field

it would be pretty expensive to pay for everyone and their sister who wanted to run

no vote would be bought for $100 either so a small amount limit and matching funds would enable someone not wealthy enough to take off from work to compete in the first round

but it will take a Constitutional Amendment to ban contributions, not easy

You nailed it Emilio, imo!

Word "public" (anywhere either on health issues or election) is scaring hell out of those who knows what they are in politics for.

That's why this fight is so severe..., they are fighting for their very survival...but either should we, the People.

I'll be rooting for the Phillies to extend the series, what great pitching. I think the Yanks are the better team though.

Nazca lines, bird in the desert
Created by a sophisticated society that crossed the line?

<!-- E IIMA --><!-- S SF -->

The ancient Nazca people of Peru are famous for the lines they drew in the desert depicting strange animal forms.

A further mystery is what happened to this once great civilisation, which suddenly vanished 1,500 years ago.

Now a team of archaeologists have found the demise of the Nazca society was linked in part to the fate of a tree.

Analysing plant remains they reveal how the destruction of forests containing the huarango tree crossed a tipping point, causing ecological collapse.

The team have published their findings in the journal of Latin American Antiquity.
