- Annilow is First

By publius on Nov 1, 2009 9:48 AM EST

Classy Lady, Gone too soon.

Her 50 years in 50 Words more or less was interesting and it would be a challenge for anyone to compose about their self.  But it was a mere snapshot, a chronology that didn't capture her well thought out convictions that she shared here.

A huge loss, I do miss her.

- I'm sad. I remembered Annilow talking

By Pat in Colorado on Nov 1, 2009 9:49 AM EST

about a respiratory illness, pneumonia.  I wondered if she had succumbed to the illness.  I'm glad that Seashell brought up her absence.  I think it had been on our minds for a while.

Puddle, your research skills are wonderful.  Thank you, thank you.

I won't forget her music quizzes, her African trip, the crop circles and her interactions here.  She will be in our memories as long as we are here and live as well.

We have missed you, Annilow, and are grateful for what you gave.

- For Annilow

By Pat in Colorado on Nov 1, 2009 10:48 AM EST

Annilow has died. She left without

telling us what was happening, though

there were hints. She talked of

walking pneumonia, left us photos

of crop circles, reminded us

of muicsal events, grumbled that

some of us hated AARP,

in all brought herself to us

and was herself our friend.

She's left us now in the way

we knew her and we have

the gifts she gave, music,

her role as a teacher, her

opinons, African travelogue and mystery.

It's not the song that's sung,

nor the singer, but the singing

the divine now, the presence,

and though we'll never know

beginnings and ends, we witness

them and bring our own songs

singing what and whom we love.

- another Annilow verse

By Phil Specht on Nov 1, 2009 11:57 AM EST

If you hear of my passing

let it lead to action

passerby though you may be

none of us are in our own lives.

We all have causes.

many shared

or a weight we carry

and that is never easier alone.

Resolve to pick up

where others have left off

resolve to travel

to learn

to share, to sing

to listen for song

to carry

to care.

So beautiful, Pat.  I'm so sad by this news.  Annilow was so interesting and I enjoyed her posts especially about travels, music, etc.  What a huge loss to our little community.  RIP, Annilow.

- We Are a Family

By donna in evanston on Nov 1, 2009 10:57 AM EST

I just read about Annilow on HEP.  Our community has lost a loyal friend.

I remember how devastated we all were when JC passed away.

Many of us have known each other a long time now, if only virtually.  Every loss effects us all.

By Joan In Florida on Nov 1, 2009 11:14 AM EST

was about JC, though we knew she was very ill.

- Health Care Reform - Pelosi's Bill

By Luther Biggs on Nov 1, 2009 11:09 AM EST

 ... a few tidbits...

www.latimes.com/features/health/la-na-healthcare-qa1-2009nov01,0,1015350.story

  1. The bill would speed the closing of the Medicare Part D "doughnut hole" -- the coverage gap that occurs when a patient's prescription costs exceed a certain yearly amount. Over time, this bill would create a 50% discount for prescription drugs bought in the doughnut hole. That process would be completed in 2019 -- five years earlier than proposed in the original House bill. The bill also would require the Health and Human Services secretary to negotiate for Medicare drug prices.
  2. It would exempt more small businesses from a requirement to provide insurance benefits to employees. Employers with yearly payroll costs of less than $250,000, compared with $500,000 under the previous House bill, would be exempt from the requirement.
  3. The bill would immediately eliminate lifetime coverage limits and rescission, the process an insurer uses to cancel a policy because the policyholder failed to disclose a preexisting condition.
  4. In addition:
  5. * People could keep their COBRA plans until the insurance exchange designed to offer affordable options is in place.
  6. * Young people could stay on their parents' insurance plans until they turn 27.
  7. * Co-pays and deductibles for preventive services to Medicare patients would be eliminated.
  8. * It would create a temporary insurance program for people who have been uninsured or denied coverage due to a preexisting condition.

- One more tidbit from Luther's link:

By cChal on Nov 1, 2009 12:40 PM EST

Why do insurers say this bill would raise healthcare costs?

Insurers are not happy that the bill includes a "public option," a government-run plan that would be funded through an increased payroll tax for those who choose it. The public option would compete with private options in a regulated insurance exchange. Insurers say the public option will disrupt the healthcare market and could force some companies out of business. The bill also ends insurers' exemption from antitrust laws that prohibit price-fixing, another element that they say could drive up costs.

- also, just a note:

By cChal on Nov 1, 2009 12:42 PM EST

Prior to the overall market correction that we are seeing, health care ins. stocks experienced a pullback.  Still happening.

From the Democratic Governor's Association

Lineup Virginia Governor's Race

  • Democrat Creigh Deeds, State Senator
State Senator Creigh Deeds is running to replace Governor Kaine. Deeds has spent his career promoting economic development, protecting communities and improving schools.
  •
  • Republican Bob McDonnell, former Attorney General
Bob McDonnell opposed efforts to improve the lives of the middle class, including turning down $125 million in Virginia’s tax dollars for federal unemployment benefits. For more information about his position, see this ad campaign. McDonnell also has taken $80,000 in contributions from Pat Robertson, who has been called McDonnell’s “political mentor.”

http://www.democraticgovernors.org/

So why is the Republican 13 points ahead here? Seems to me he has little to offer the "real people" of Virginia.

Lindab is probably out there busting her unowhat so that Deeds can pull ahead.

How appropos to learn on All Saint's Day, when the names of all those who have died during the year are read aloud in the churches of their loved ones.

So, folks, say Annilow's name out loud, and send her on her way with a proper Blog Tribute.

I am so grateful for Annilow's spunk and spirit and kindness.

I grieve her passing even while I know that she, like jc, is always with us.

Beautiful words, too, Pat and Phil. ♥

Anillow gone...!

66 it's too early.

I remember her musical trivia questions, her love for opera...and our discussion about it..., for her opera was much more than just a voice...

Sad..., too early!
