will check them out later.........always hard to predict the future, but looking at Englands demise as a world power we are tragically following that trend twice times.........
England grew up (or wised up) and realized its position in a changing world........the jury will be out for us for some time........there is hope tho.
I try not to piss of farmers..........I still want my corn flakes and milk daly.

WASHINGTON -- A vast pool of molten rock in the continental crust that underlies southwestern Washington state could supply magma to three active volcanoes in the Cascade Mountains -- Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier and Mount Adams -- according to a new study that's causing a stir among scientists.

- those that deny anthropogenic causes of climate change point to the distant past
By Phil Specht on Oct 26, 2009 9:14 AM EDTwhen the planet was much hotter or cooler which is of course true
South America once touched Africa and Iowa was under water in a shallow sea, and the Rocky Mtns themselves are pretty recent
dealing with carbon emissions is pretty tame stuff compared to the causes of past changes of this scale
Thanks for the links, Phil. And good morning!
My hubby was in a Judo tourney this wknd. He was the oldster and went against a current 23 year old Olympian hot shot. My guy was throwing the kid (which would have given him the Gold) but the kid hooked his foot behind hubby's knee and it was over. Now he has to visit the Ortho. I told him at 50 it was time he went against guys his own age - LOL. This was his first Judo loss in 22 years.

14 deaths in Afghanistan today due to helicopter crashes. I'd like to see us leave. A look at history will show it's just not *winnable*. Absolutely heartbreaking.
- I think the better model for what we are doing is Holland as well

Why 'adolescent America' has to grow up

A fascinating new study looks at whether the US will remain the dominant superpower in the next century.
Many of James Kurth's recommendations are pretty mainstream, suggesting that America's dominance has been built on military power which itself is dependent on economic power. He points out that this has been based not so much on industrial strength as constant innovation. He says that to continue this into the future, America has to emphasise research into green and bio tech, and new medical and health treatments.
This emphasis on the future of technology pretty much mirrors the priority of the Obama administration which also stresses medical research. I am hearing that some executives of medical companies are arguing the administration is undermining its own objectives by taxing just such products.
