I have to roll my eyes at this "debate over bio-fuels and rising food prices"

Written by: anomalous Biff on Apr 20, 2008 5:27 PM EDT

It makes me think that the oil companies are back in there somewhere, doing something to fuel the controversy while they line their pockets and harm the earth doing it. Yes, bio-fuels based on food grains could cause higher prices, but, the really simple solution is develop and produce the biofuels not made of food grain. ( Yes, they're out there, it's to big oil's advantage that they not be developed or used )

The problem arises when production shifts from production for Human consuption and production of fuel grade products, the amount of arable land available for farming it's not infinite and farmers wil shift their efforts towards the most profitable crop. I make Biodiesel from UVO (used vegetable oil), in time I came to realize that producing biodiesel from food grain will create more problems that it can resolve. the production of biodiesel cannot offset the use of hydrocarbons simply because we would need to convert the entire production of soy and other grains to fuel production. The use of non food grade plants can create a small market for local economies but on a global scale the only solution remains  hydrogen, we have the technology we only need the resolve.
