Who are these Grassroots All-Stars?

Written by: Chris Healy on Jan 14, 2008 12:55 PM EST

There are a lot of candidates for DFA's Grassroots All-Stars, which I'm taking as a very good sign! I don't know many of them though, and would appreciate others' insight to help figure out who I should investigate further.

Who do you recommend from this list of potential Grassroots All-Stars?

 Thanks!

Roy Carter is a retired teacher and football coach, with no political experience, who jumped into the race because he was tired of seeing his former students and players being sent off to fight in an illegal war.

His is truly a remarkable story and I'd personally be thrilled if you would consider voting for him.

Interesting.........I find it rather odd, all tis unity called for by the Democrats..and all i see is dis-unity..especialy from the minority candidates..................wouldnt it be ironic if the white guy gets the nomination?

I see the republicans, with all their twisted logic and so on uniting much better than the democrats.....................democrats have some soul searching to do...............

This seems like the perfect chance to remind everyone that Nancy Skinner, former talk show host at the Air America affiliate station in Detroit, is on the DFA Grassroots All-Star ballot this year after her impressive showing against the horrible Joe Knollenberg, a Bush valet from the word go, in 2006.

Garnering the support of another former political opponent, Barack Obama from the Illinois primary for U.S. Senator, Nancy came from nowhere to lose to Know-nothing Knollenberg by a painfully scant 4 points.  This year, with our help, Joe won't even know what hit him.   It will be sweet.

Nancy is a big time Dean supporter, and even interviewed Jim on her show, before people knew what DFA was.  Join Joan Jett and me and vote to show your support.  Voting for Nancy is almost like dumping a waste basket full of water over Bill O'Reilly's head.  Thanks.

I support Roy Carter for Congress too.  He has been working hard since September to build a really strong organizational base from the grassroots up.  His campaign has brought energy and hope to the district as he works to defeat one of the most radically conservative Members of Congress.  People here in NC's 5th district know that it's time for a change and know that Roy Carter is the man to bring home the win.

I encourage everyone to visit his website at www.roycarterforcongress.com and then VOTE for him to be DFA's Grassroots Allstar.  He deserves the win!

CALIFORNIA IS VOTING!!!

my absentee ballot was in the mail today--jan 14!  before this, my stink-o-meter was quivering, and i deliberated whether to send an email to sec of state debra bowen and to alert other calif voters on the net.  this has not been the first election when a late ballot was sent to my residence.  [calif does not consider postmark but the date and time of receipt of the marked ballot.]

***************

berkeley prof and npr commentator, robert reich, calls obama's stimulus plan the best of the dems.  reich was bill clinton's secretary of labor.  lol!

***************

spot-on, john nelson.

it's nauseating what the clinton campaign has put out.  after bob johnson's signifying--communicating without speaking the words--then covering up the insinuation about drugs with community organizing...........gimme a break.  voters are not stupid, as bob johnson rightly began his speech.

hillary is intensely disliked on facebook, and this kind of campaigning will seal her fate with this demographic.  sorry, chels.

*****************

if hillary gets the nomination, we'll lose the mountain west and very likely the hard-won congressional seats which dean democrats fought for.  the latimes had a piece about this dislike of hillary some time ago.

I said that a long time ago too -- verbatim. In response to you saying just the opposite.

Now I see why you like Edwards so much. He plagerizes others and tries to change his record.

and even went so far as advance an idea to the rules process to give every registered Democrat in America the exact same say in selecting the nominee.

Yeah, I know all about your exclusionary viewpoint. It's bad politics, if not just plain wrong.

"As in the Watergate era, we are at a "teachable moment," when the public as well as the politicians and government officials would benefit from a full public investigation. There is a substantial body of information that suggests that the Bush administration has disregarded the rule of law it pledged to uphold. Our system of government, with its three distinct branches, was built to provide for accountability, and holding the president and his administration accountable should be a priority of this or any Congress. It is not a matter of political strategy or convenience, but an important safeguard of our democracy.

I support the members of Congress who are calling for hearings and was very glad to see my friend Mike Michaud send his letter. If I were in Congress, I believe I would be doing the same.

Barack Obama spelled wrong in Central Fla.

Published: Jan. 14, 2008 at 3:26 PMORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Early voting for Florida's presidential primary began with U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's first name misspelled on some ballots.

Around 2,000 absentee ballots were mailed from Volusia County with Obama's first name misspelled, Orlando's WKMG-TV reported Monday.

On the ballot, the name of the U.S. senator from Illinois is spelled "Barak."

County Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall said the voting equipment will be able to read the ballots despite the error and all ballots cast for the misspelled name will still count for Obama.

I think BO would make a good VP.

Nuff said.  But when I start hearing people already suggesting that maybe HC and BO should be on the ticket to draw in the most people as possible, I get the willies.

This is good to see.

___

When we broke the news that Bill Kristol would be joining the editorial pages of the New York TImes as a regular contributor, we called it "a move bound to create controversy." After a mistake-laden first effort, now the New York Times public editor Clark Hoyt has delivered his verdict: "[NYT Publisher] Sulzberger and [editorial page editor] Rosenthal made a mistake." Hoyt's reasoning:

On Fox News Sunday on June 25, 2006, Kristol said, "I think the attorney general has an absolute obligation to consider prosecution" of The New York Times for publishing an article that revealed a classified government program to sift the international banking transactions of thousands of Americans in a search for terrorists.

Publication of the article was controversial -- my predecessor as public editor first supported it and then changed his mind -- but Kristol's leap to prosecution smacked of intimidation and disregard for both the First Amendment and the role of a free press in monitoring a government that has a long history of throwing the cloak of national security and classification over its activities. This is not a person I would have rewarded with a regular spot in front of arguably the most elite audience in the nation.

Read Hoyt's entire argument here.       http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/14/nyt-public-editor-hiring_n_81326.html

Bill Hedrick in the California 44th Congressional District is a very thoughtful, educated man with an unshakable moral compass, who will have a unique chance to send home current Republican Representative Ken Calvert who has voted in lockstep with Bush on every issue.

Bill has several children in Iraq or returned from Iraq. He supports the military but is against the Iraq war.  For his stance on other issues, visit his web site: www.hedrickforcongress.com. He is definitely a candidate worthy of your vote! Bill cares for people!

Hillary's Crocodile Angst

Yesterday morning on "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos there ran the names of 16 Americans -- some, mere boys -- killed in Iraq last week. Next week he'll run another list of Americans killed this week. So it has gone for nearly five years, with at least another year to go. Less quantifiable is the death of America's reputation and whatever honor she had regained after the needless obscenity of Vietnam.

                                  ````````````````````````````````````````````````````
For there you sat, again, spinning the real "fairy tale" of this campaign: that your vote for the "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq" was, despite the resolution's title, in actuality merely an authorization for the oxymoronic use of "diplomatic force."
                                  ````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Some of your supporters now dismiss criticism of you as mere "Hillary-hating," which is a curious blend of both incisive truth and tactical diversion. Many, including some (and including myself) who greatly admired you prior to October 2002 do indeed "hate" what you became: an opportunistic jingoist when jingoism ruled, since going against the hard grain of hypernationalism at the time might spoil your later prospects for a White House run and make you appear "weak."

The irony, of course, is that it's now that you appear weak, having buckled under political pressure and supported an adventurism that virtually every thoughtful analyst said would cost the lives of thousands, drain the Treasury and destroy America's standing in the world.

                                      ```````````````````````````````````````````````````
Yesterday, Hillary, you re-projected a recently discovered appeal with appeal: "I spend my time out on the campaign trail -- it’s usually about what I can do for somebody else. I'm very 'other' directed -- I don’t like talking about myself.... For me, it’s always about, 'What can I do for you? How can I help you?'"
Here's a thought. Go back to New York and pray for forgiveness -- from those 16 families who needlessly lost loved ones last week, and from the next batch of families who are about to lose theirs this week, in part because you didn't want to appear "weak."
Tom, I think I asked both questions, Tom, but maybe it's half-timers!  LOL
I think most BO/JE supporters would vote for either one, altho BO supporters, on the whole, didn't respond....but....put HC and BO together and then what?
This possibility should be considered seriously and maybe even discussed here.
This is a chess game and we need to be 4 moves ahead of what the CM wants.  Since most of us are either JE or BO advocatesm perhaps we should focus on keeping JE very viable, very.
They may just start throwing their shoes. The members of the pro-choice movement in California were livid when they found out that some of the CA DNC female members where supporting pro-lifer Tim Rohmer for DNC Chair. HC's wants the pro-lifer Evan Bayh as a running mate. Wait till all her pro-choice supporters in California hear that one.
>
God forbid!
Some god won't forbid it, but Hillary's internal polling might.
HC's wants the pro-lifer Evan Bayh as a running mate.
If this is true, she has to be knocked out of the race.  She won't get MY vote.
The only way this is going to work well for the party is to keep JE and BO strong, in first and second.
Winding up with HC is unthinkable.   Especially with Bayh.  Spread the word.
Susan, how do you know that she wants Bayh?  She'll lose the womens' vote if he's on the ticket.
If women don't start paying close attention to HC, they are headed for a rude awakening...so is the dem party if JE leaves.
Hard to say. Bayh seems highly regarded in DLC circles. I assume Lieberpub is off the table.
Let's all thank the corporations for this.  Notice that neither HC nor BO care.
Christopher Kutruff | NBC Blocks Kucinich From Debate
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/011408R.shtml
Christopher Kutruff, writing for Truthout, says, "Two days after inviting Dennis Kucinich to Tuesday's January 15 presidential debates, NBC decided to change its previously announced criteria and exclude the Ohio congressman. The congressman said he is considering legal action against NBC for its policy reversal."
42 - It does "sound' like Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly are loud mouthing on here sometimes.
44 - Thanks for the reminder.  Throughout all the triangulating, the Clintons are Democrats after all.  Compared to the Repugs, ya know.
If Clinton wins the nomination.
IF.
Obama won't sit in his Senate chair into old age, and Hillary needs him so that she can keep the wind in the Democrats sail.   She/we need Obama going forward.
_________
If Obama wins the nomination.
He might do well asking Biden to stand next to him.
maybe, maybe not.
They co-own Nebo Lodge on North Haven, too. Not a helluva lot to do out there, re: employment survival!
Mike poisons the blog and then asks that it be done away with because it's poisonous. DFA could take a much less drastic action if they agree with him.
On a different note,
I'm actually quite pleased with the unfamiliar names who have been dropping in a lot more as of late. We lose some, we gain some.
I know a lot of moderate Republicans who vote Democratic all the time but they will never vote for a Clinton ever again.
Okay.
At one time I posted that Bill Clinton's Presidential Victories might have been real
overnight nail biters if Ross Perot had not been on the ballot.
I thought that Bill Richardson was the best bet for cross over appeal.
I think any of the three remaining are going to have a real tough time getting to
271 electors.
