Oil now? or loss election?

Written by: John Archibald on Jun 18, 2008 8:53 PM EDT

I have been an Obama supporter starting from before he became popular. Just as I had predicted Barack’s current success I have recently predicted that the cost of oil and it’s effects would become priority  number one with voters. And it will, trust me! We must be willing to, while giving as much attention to environmental concerns as reasonably possible, explore for oil, coal, and natural gas immediately. We must retrieve and process our fossil fuels as soon as we can while frantically developing alternative energy sources with which to power our industry, motor vehicles and homes. Unfortunately, Mr. Bush and Mr. McCain have beaten Barack and the rest of our party to this unavoidable common sense approach. He will ultimately loss the election if he does not realize and act on the fact that our economy is presently and for the near future entirely dependant upon affordable and available fossil fuels and their derivatives. If we don’t act now we will not have the ability to research and develop the needed technologies to make us independent of these fossil fuels because the looming energy crises will put us into the basic survival mode, and the means for such activities will not be available as they currently are. Unless Barack and the rest of the Democrats get on board, the republicans will continue to run things. Why can’t the Democratic party use some common sense. Why is it always one extreme or the other? I am embarrassed. To the Democrats I beg,… Please wake up??????? We need to get our nation back!

I am a white 61 year old Vietnam vet and a retired building trades union supervisor who retired out of the engineering department at my last job. I am just trying to say many smart common sense people like myself (all races and colors) who want Barack to win and to have a couple of successful terms in office are very concerned that he has not picked up on this. I share many of his views and would like to see a prosperous period where we are not so preoccupied with the fossil fuel crises that we can't implement the needed policies etc. I pray for the sake of our party that Barack and the rest of the party quickly become aware of the gravity closing the door to the immediate pursuit of our reserves will have. This is the only mistake we can make that will allow the republicans to stay in office, and we are currently making it.

Oil and economy hand in hand!

Written by: John Archibald on Jun 11, 2008 1:05 AM EDT

I am a member of the working middle class. I normally vote Democrat because I am concerned with the plight of the working people and their families. I believe in adequate wages sufficient to allow all middle class working Americans to live the American dream. Like most others, I believe medical cost should be affordable to the point where it is not an issue for us or our employers. I believe we should continue to have the decent working conditions provided by our hard won labor laws obtained through the sacrifices of organized labor. I vote Democrat to keep the separation between church and state alive so we can remain free from religious persecution.  I also vote Democrat because I believe in their progressive policies which enable us to be one of the worlds leading innovators in industrial and technological advances. This is good for our economy and our spirits.

A world of energy to get us out of a world of trouble!

Written by: John Archibald on Mar 1, 2008 5:29 PM EST

A president with abounding energy and youthful resilience is what we need now. We need a president who consistantly will make clear judgments based on an unwavering understanding of our needs and our relationships to other nations around the world. He or she will need to sustain a high level of productive and progressive engagement both domestically and internationally with undiminished energy and cognitive clarity. Our president must have the energy to remain cool under pressure and not loose his determination to patiently and respectfully engage others to work together. He must be able to bring out the best in people reinforcing their collaborative efforts. We really need a person who has not yet given up on the pursuit of the ideals and desires found in the hearts of ordinary working Americans. Mr. Barack Obama has an abundance of these qualities and has consistently echoed them over the years. He is smart and quick, and is in his prime at 46 years of age. I feel he is our best hope and is especially right for these times. I’ll take good judgment over questionable mediocre experience any day. Just look at where we are today and remember Hillary with her experience and good intentions played a significant role in getting us here. She is part of the recent past history which has brought us to this point in history. I am going to vote for Barack.

Is Hillary good for business?

Written by: John Archibald on Mar 1, 2008 5:17 PM EST

She is great for big business, especially those who have disenfranchised the American workers with their unfair importing of foreign goods and the outsourcing of American jobs. As you stated,” her record and support base indicate she's hardly an enemy of American business interests,” and as you also stated,” She has more maxed-out, executive-level donors than either Obama or Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). She has pulled in $3.9 million from donors associated with the health-care industry, more than any other candidate. Donors affiliated with Goldman Sachs (GS, news, msgs) are her top contributors”. Her lengthy tenure as a prominent member of Wal-Mart’s Board of Trustees greatly contributed to its present day success in boosting China to its status as an economic super power with, over time, huge losses of American Manufacturing jobs. At the same time, she also sat on other corporate boards while the prestigious law firm in which she was a partner, known for their corporate capabilities, Rose Law Firm of Arkansas, pioneered the current corporate policies which have led to today’s American worker demise. She still revels in being part of the inaccurate claims of a successful economy under the leadership of her husband Bill Clinton who was closing military bases across the nation with private industry beginning to follow. She continues to share credit for a so called good economy during the Clinton presidency  with her husband who had merely been lucky enough to be president during the internet and Silicone Valley tech boom which brought about a  false economy which railed around the stock market while , American worker’s jobs were rapidly disappearing as corporate interest were embraced.     I don’t think she is good for business as usual, I know she is; and if we want more of the same we must make sure we get her elected.

My view Of Barack Obama!

Written by: John Archibald on Feb 20, 2008 3:55 PM EST

This is a glimpse of how I see Barack Obama’s point of view and approach.

McCain keeps harping that Barack's claims," to change America," are ridiculous and empty. Barack simple wants to return America to the way it used to be not so long ago with a prosperous and healthy middle class. He wants to restore our military strength and national security to their former levels by avoiding senseless conflicts while concentrating on recreating a level playing field upon which we can conduct trade with other nations. He believes a productive and prosperous nation will, as before, generate the revenue needed to afford us the most sophisticated weapons and military on earth. He is also under the impression we need to once again return this country and its constitutional rights back to its people. He believes, as I do, that if someone can affect us in such a way as to cause us to live in fear for the foreseeable future they have won. He plans to seek and find solutions by working with other nations including those who see things much differently than we do. He knows we all see things to one degree or another differently, and refusal to negotiated with those who see things differently amounts to nothing less than isolation and the nullification of all but our own national values. He realizes we must respect others and their cultures as we and our cultures wish to be respected. He knows we must attract and be willing to work with those who are sitting at the other end of the table to find mutually acceptable solutions, possible with compromise on both sides. He knows that only a bully will insist on having everything his way, and knows we need to correct that all to prevalent recently acquired perception of us.  He knows no one wants to negotiate with a bully. He knows the way back to the America we were once famous for, and is willing and determined to take us there despite a likely uphill battle. He is more than willing to take on the treasonous corporate greed which has allowed the outsourcing or our nation by its wealthy aristocrats, along with their corporations and politicians.

I know it may likely take several years if not a decade or two to repair a significant portion of the damage done to America since the passing of NAFTA and the reckless negligence of the Bush presidency, and hope we can be patient and supportive and not lose our focus during this period.

Let's not blow this election along with our future!

Written by: John Archibald on Feb 8, 2008 3:40 PM EST

I am a white 60 year old Vietnam Veteran and a commander of a VFW Post. I am also a sensible hard working patriotic man. We cannot and must not continue to select political candidates based on the good old boy mentality or on preferences people have for their cronies or individuals because of their gender, race, religion or name etc. We as a people are regressing into primitive backwoods people. We need to embrace competence and intelligence instead of settling for people like Hillary who arrive at the right decisions after they are forced by others to look at their past mistakes. She is experienced at making poor decisions and continues to exhibit the same tendencies. Women will put up with it for a while but men, by nature, will not. National dissatisfaction will abound, and a rush to conservatism will follow. Now is not the time for her.    I support Barack Obama because it is absolutely imperative that he win the nomination. I say this not only because he is obviously the most qualified, but because this may be the last opportunity we have to restore our nation to its former glory and prosperity. Because of the baggage Hillary is carrying (which will be exposed later)  and because so many democrats and virtually all republicans pretty much despise her I am afraid we may, in the event she is nominated, loose the election to the republicans. Many others feel the same. There are some democrats and other party members who will go as far as to vote for a republican candidate before voting for her. On the other hand, if she is nominated and some how becomes our next president Americans will quickly become very disappointed with her. She will barely get one term in and be replaced with a republican and that will be the end of a desperately needed opportunity for the middle class to regain some of the ground it had lost during the Bush era…… All that so she can have bragging rights.  Barack is really aware of our short comings in both foreign and domestic areas and has a sense of what needs to get done and how to get there. In the past he has shown he is willing to take positions contrary to popular preference if it is in the interest of our nation. (The war for example).  Many republicans and independents can see this along with his other qualities, and are impressed by him. Barack is right for the times and it will be a great misfortune for our nation and the world if we should somehow not recognize this and capitalize on it. It’s not often that such an individual comes alone, and that we are so lucky to have one that is willing to be our president during these historically difficult times.
