ACTION ALERT: contact Senator Feinstein fast!
Linked to groups: Redlands DFA
Everyone Here is my email I sent to Diane Feinstein today:
Senator,
Why do you continue to rubber stamp everything George Bush wants? I strongly urge you to vote against Mukasey as Attorney General. How can any democrat support a man who will allow torture. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE (WITH SCHUMER) for putting our troops in harms way by continuing to allow torture.
A VOTE FOR MUKASEY IS A VOTE FOR TORTURE!
The Democratic party DOES NOT support torture, and neither should you. Do you want to be grouped together with Lieberman as a Bush Cronie? If you allow Mukasey to be the A.G. then I will urge my associations with DFA, Move-ON.org, and local democratic clubs to campaign against you actively with all of our grassroots resources. If it is possible we, will try to use the same law that removed Gray Davis to recall your term. You should remember that you serve our will, not your corportate sponsors.
A concerned democrat & resident of CA,
Robert Najera
You all should contact her and urge her to change her position again on one of Bush's appointees. Mukasey will not keep Bush under control legally, he will rubber stamp all Bush's policies. Lets over flow the senator's email box with demands for peace and an opposition to MUKASEY.
Contact her through her website. http://feinstein.senate.gov/public/

Great letter, Robert. I just sent one off, too. And good luck this weekend collecting signatures!

Here is your link to the DLC list, please tell me where Obama's name is? I don't see Richardson on the list either.

I think you owe them both an apology.

Thank you Robert.
I called yesterday and I wrote earlier today to Her and Chuckles Schumer.

They obviously are not representing their party and it's values or their constiuents voice, so who are they representing?

Democratic party seeks to win evangelicals, but risks leaving behind their base.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1616
Dean said in an interview recently that the party is only writing off the "hard right."
"The chairman of the Democratic National Committee concedes that some voters might be out of reach - namely people who look to James Dobson's Focus on the Family for voting guidance.
"We're only writing off the hard right that beats up on gays and women," Dean said."

Well, trouble is that many in our party are taking it too far and still trying to appeal to everyone. Can't do it, never could. Won't work. Energize your base, Howard said in 2003, and he surely did that. They need to stop trying to energize Bush's base.

California's Dianne Feinstein*, U.S. Senator; CA is a member of Bush's DLC and is on the DLC list, as apparently is Chuck Schumer if he votes for Mukasey's torture, even though his name isn't on the list.
Gray Davis, Former Governor; CA is also a member of the DLC that is on the list.
DLC members COOPERATE WITH THE REPUBLICAN EXTREME. The only way out is to get rid of them just like Gray Davis, but I'm hoping for a simpler way of voting them out of office in the Primary Elections.
VOTE FOR THE ONES THAT ARE NOT DLC -- IT IS NOT THAT COMPLICATED.

Waterboarding is torture - I did it myself, says US advisor
By Leonard Doyle in Washington
Published: 01 November 2007
When the US military trains soldiers to resist interrogation, it uses a torture technique from the Middle Ages, known as "waterboarding". Its use on terror suspects in secret US prisons around the world has come to symbolise the Bush administration's no-nonsense enthusiasm for the harshest questioning techniques.
Although waterboarding has been considered torture for over a century and the US military is banned from using it, controversy over its continuing use by the CIA may be about to derail the appointment of President Bush's candidate for US Attorney-General.
Michael Mukasey, a retired federal judge from New York and a veteran of several al-Qa'ida trials, was questioned by a Senate committee on Tuesday and refused to say whether waterboarding was illegal.
Instead, he called the technique "repugnant to me" and promised to investigate further if he was confirmed in the job. He explained that he could not say yet whether the practice was illegal because he had not been briefed on the secret methods of US interrogators and he did not want to put the CIA officers who used it in "personal legal jeopardy".
Even though Congress banned waterboarding in the US military in 2005, it did not do so for the CIA. As a result, Mr Mukasey told senators, it was uncertain whether this technique or other harsh methods constituted "cruel, inhuman or degrading" treatment. His answers did not satisfy the Democrats, however, and his approval now hinges on whether he is willing to say the torture method is against US law.
In a further embarrassment for Mr Bush yesterday, Malcolm Nance, an advisor on terrorism to the US departments of Homeland Security, Special Operations and Intelligence, publicly denounced the practice. He revealed that waterboarding is used in training at the US Navy's Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School in San Diego, and claimed to have witnessed and supervised "hundreds" of waterboarding exercises. Although these last only a few minutes and take place under medical supervision, he concluded that "waterboarding is a torture technique – period".
The practice involves strapping the person being interrogated on to a board as pints of water are forced into his lungs through a cloth covering his face while the victim's mouth is forced open. Its effect, according to Mr Nance, is a process of slow-motion suffocation.
Typically, a victim goes into hysterics on the board as water fills his lungs. "How much the victim is to drown," Mr Nance wrote in an article for the Small Wars Journal, "depends on the desired result and the obstinacy of the subject.
"A team doctor watches the quantity of water that is ingested and for the physiological signs which show when the drowning effect goes from painful psychological experience to horrific, suffocating punishment, to the final death spiral. For the uninitiated, it is horrifying to watch." ....Click here to explore further and read the full article: http://news.independent.co.uk/world/amer...
#49.11/310:30AM puddle: (From unanswered Hillary thread #53.11/3 11:01AM in reference to my #45 post to Linda*in*SFNM unanswered)
Genius that you are, Puddle, I am certain that you can come up with something more than, "Are you a moron?"
It comes to mind that Pinky is there with you saying, "Duh. What are we going to do tomorrow Puddle?" and you respond, "What do we do everyday Pinky? We are going to ask people on the blog, Are you a moron? -- because our limited ability precludes us from even marginal understanding, Pinky."
puddle is on dial-up and probably resents super-long posts instead of links(besides a dislike for Kucinich)
It's all good. (another plug for the Party party for those of you casting about for a third party)
Halloween would be a good time to kick off a campaign for the Party party.
US accused of torture
Ian Munro Herald Correspondent in New York
October 31, 2007
THE United States's willingness to resort to harsh interrogation techniques in its so-called war on terror undermined human rights and the international ban on torture, a United Nations spokesman says.
Manfred Nowak, UN Special Rapporteur on torture, said the US's standing and importance meant it was a model to other countries which queried why they were subject to scrutiny when the US resorted to measures witnessed at Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib prison.
Mr Nowak was speaking after releasing his finding that the use of torture was routine and widespread in Sri Lanka ,despite laws against it.
"I am very concerned about the undermining of the absolute prohibition of torture by interrogation methods themselves in Abu Grahib, in Guantanamo Bay and others, but also by rendition and the whole CIA secret places of detention. All that is really undermining the international rule of law in general and human rights but also the prohibition of torture," said Mr Nowak.
"(Other countries) say why are you criticising us if the US, the most democratic country with the oldest history of human rights, if they are torturing you should first go there. It has a negative effect because the US is a very powerful and important country and many other countries take the US as a model."
His comments come amid continuing controversy over whether the use of waterboarding - which simulates drowning - is torture. US senators are threatening to stop the appointment of Michael Mukasey, President Bush's new nominee for Attorney-General, following Mr Mukasey's refusal to condemn waterboarding at judiciary committee hearings recently.
Reports have linked CIA interrogations of al-Qaeda suspects, including alleged 9/11 planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to the technique.
President Bush has said the US does not restort to torture, but his administation has refused to say if waterboarding has been used. During waterboarding a cloth is used to cover a prisoner's mouth and water poured over it, triggering the gag reflex.
Commenting on his investigation into Sri Lanka, Mr Nowak said that the use of torture in counter-terrorism operations was prone to become routine.
During his visit there this month he received many "consistent and credible" allegations from detainees who claimed they were ill-treated by police.
He said that he was alerted to a new form of torture which his medical aide had initially thought was impossible. It involved individuals being suspended only by their thumbs which were bound together so they could be hoisted into the air.
He said he had received two independent accounts of its use in Army camps. The effects were verified by medical examination. Six months after the alleged incidents the individuals had not regained use of their thumbs. ... http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/10/3...
CLINTON OBAMA?
http://www.blackagendareport.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=419&Itemid=34
With a full year to go before the 2008 presidential election the handwriting is already on the wall. The Democratic nominees and probable winners in 2008 will be Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
In US presidential politics, elections are often anticlimactic. For Democratic and Republican wings of America's permanent ruling party, the all-important selection which precedes the election isn't about poll numbers, votes or the citizens that cast them. It's about winning the favor of military contractors, the banking and financial sectors and Big Oil. It's about reassuring insurance and pharmaceutical companies, cozying up to agribusiness, the cable and telecom monopolies, allaying the fears of chambers of commerce, and wooing Hollywood.
Only those who jump through these hoops merit favorable coverage in the corporate media as so-called serious candidates.
Failure on a candidate's part to stick to the script is severely punished. Any lack of will to reassure the military contractors, Big Oil, Big Insurance, Big Pharma and Big Money in general results in a candidate being labeled “unelectable,” through boycotts by the big money donors and the imposition of kiss-of-death news blackouts on their campaigns. Four years ago ABC News exec Ted Koppel demanded Kucinich, Sharpton and Moseley-Braun withdraw from the race and pulled ABC's coverage from their campaigns the next day, as did NBC, CNN, and the other networks. This season's antiwar and pro health care Democrats Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are routinely disinvited to forums, excised from coverage, omitted from public opinion polls and surveys, and their images deleted from news photos of presidential forums.

Martha Miller, you continuously keep posting incorrect information.
Why is that?
I've provided you full lists and links, but you keep posting a lie. I'm starting to believe it is intentional.
Al Gore disassociated himself witlh the DLC when he left the Clinton Administration and has not been a member for many years.
This is the last public membership list from 2003

The DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP COUNCIL, DLC, is the political arm of the 20% minority professional middle class and culture and DOES NOT IN ANY WAY REPRESENT THE CLASS AND CULTURAL INTERESTS OF THE 7O% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES.
The DLC does an excellent job of representing the interests of their own 20% minority class and culture, the professional middle class, and of COOPERATING and TOADYING UP to the American aristocracy for political advantage. However, the DLC does not, have not and will not represent the interests of a class and culture that is NOT THEIR OWN, the class and culture of the 70% majority common population of the United States; NEVER HAVE, AND NEVER WILL.
The DLC, as leadership of the Democratic Party, are in political DUOPOLY with the American aristocracy POLITICALLY REPRESENTED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, in a joint effort to EXCLUDE the 70% majority common population of the United States from BEING REPRESENTED by a political party and EXCLUDED from representation in the government of the United States as a class and culture.
The United States is based upon a MODEL OF GOVERNMENT established by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. In the Greek and Roman models of governance the common population were SLAVES and SERVANTS of the aristocracy and the middle class.
The DLC and the Republican Party represent democracy that is DUOPOLISTIC, that represents the classes and cultures of the American aristocracy and the professional middle class to the EXCLUSION of the 70% majority common population of the United States. In the political scheme of governance by the American aristocracy and professional middle class DUOPOLY, the 70% majority common population of the United States are relegated to WAGE SLAVERY, POVERTY, SERVITUDE and SUBSERVIENCE IN GOVERNANCE, LAW, and subservient behavior in their day to day lives.
It is time for liberty and freedom for the 70% majority common population of the United States as a class and culture, rather than the continual pablum of liberty and freedom for the American aristocracy and the professional middle class, as has been the case since 1776, with liberty and freedom for the 70% majority class and culture being a hollow meaningless trope used to SUPPRESS, OPPRESS, and TYRANNIZE the 70% majority common population of the United States, and force the 70% majority common population of the United States to be UNWILLINGLY USED AS SLAVES, WAGE SLAVES, and SERVANTS WITHOUT SUBSTANTIAL BENEFIT, in service to the American aristocracy and their COOPERATIVE TOADIES of the professional middle class, represented in the Democratic Party by the Democratic Leadership Council, DLC.

DFA. Don't you understand that?
Whatever your point is, you would serve it better by explaining instead of disparaging.
Please forgive me for asking again, but where has DFA said it will throw out votes?
Ever heard of a link? It's very inconsiderate to post such a long list. And whatever your cause is, you injure it by doing so.
No, the Feinstein link doesn't work. I can't get thru to either her or Schumer.
Comcast is starting to mess with its customers. Anyone else having problems with Comcast or getting thru to these senators?
I prefer to believe Barack Obama.
I think it's great that so many DCDems are now treating the DLC like leprosy. It's a start to doing away with it.
Feinstein is a loser, a non-progressive, which way isn't the wind blowing Dem, who always looks for some way to stand out from the crowd, good or bad.
Well, she certainly is managing to do that again. Unfortunately, she does not come up for re-election in 2008.
I wouldn't contact DiFi or Schumer any more than I would Bush since they all hold my views in equal contempt.

I have heard the FCC is "looking into" Comcast complaints. So don't expect any quick and easy solutions or maybe none at all.

Dennis Kucinich is a smarmy Pro-Life opportunist
26Apr07
Last week at the Barack Obama event at the Agganis, I got in to an argument with one of the Dennis Kucinich supporters. My friends thought I was an idiot for even engaging the guy, but I had to. He approached me as I stood in line with thousands of college students, energized by a candidate with a real chance of winning that represents a new breed of politics.
“Support Dennis Kucinich for President,” he said as handing me some photocopied sheet of paper.
“Sorry, I don’t support pro-lifers,” I responded.
“Dennis Kucinich is NOT pro-life,” he almost screamed back.

Like he hadn’t even heard me or, didn’t want to respond to the actual fact I had presented him, the guy just started getting angrier and angrier, yelling about he “KNOWS Dennis Kucinich and KNOWS he supports choice.”

What strikes me about Kucinich supporters is how nasty they are. I had an experience similar to the one described by Ryan. I was walking to a rally before the MTV debates at Faneuil Hall carrying a Howard Dean sign and two men started yelling that I was stupid for supporting Dean and that Kucinich was the only candidate against the war. It was on a back street in Boston and I was actually a bit frightened by their unwarranted viciousness. Don’t his supporters realize that peace begins at home?
I find Dennis Kucinich robotic and insincere. The pro-choice switch prior to his first run for president is just a symptom of his hypocrisy. In the 2004 Iowa primary, he told his (very few) delegates to vote for Edwards rather than Kerry, Dean or Gephardt. It seems to me that if he were ideologically against the war, he would have selected Dean - the only other anti-Iraq war candidate.
Kucinch is a giant joke. The Democrats’ version of Alan Keyes. His job is to make the left look looney and the right-leaning candidates to look sensibly moderate. I wish he would go back to Cleveland and open up a New Age Bookstore or falafel stand.
Does anybody know if DFA required folks to sign-up at the DFA-Link before they could vote in the Presidential Pulse Poll?
What would happend if the Republicians asked folks to vote in a specific way to effect this poll? Is there anyway to determine if that were to happen?
Next, and seventh, is Cleveland's Dennis Kucinich (1977-79). Only thirty-one years old when elected, Cleveland's "boy" mayor had failings that were not the sins of venality or graft for personal gain, but rather matters of style, temperament, and bad judgment in office. Kucinich earned seventh place the hard way: by his abrasive, intemperate, and confrontational populist political style, which led to a disorderly and chaotic administration. He barely survived a recall vote just ten months into office, then disappeared for five weeks, reportedly recuperating from an ulcer. When he got back into the political fray, his demagogic rhetoric and slash-and-burn political style got him into serious trouble when he stubbornly refused to compromise and led Cleveland into financial default in late 1978—the first major city to default since the Great Depression. That led also to Kucinich's defeat and exit from executive office. Out of office, he dabbled in a Hollywoodesque spirit world and once believed he had met actress Shirley MacLaine in a previous life, seemingly confirming his critics' charges that he was a "nut-cake." After that, he experienced downward mobility, losing races for several other offices and finally ending up with a council seat; but more recently, he climbed back up to a seat in Congress. Bad judgment, demagoguery, and default also spelled political failure in the eyes of twenty-five of our experts, who ranked Dennis, whom the press called "the Menace," as seventh-worst.

And Thanks Phil, lol!
My question about IQs came from wondering how anyone claiming to be politically astute in any way would work so hard to alienate those who would/should be their natural allies. But it's obvious, rather, that the fish *really* does rot from the head down.
The blitz on this blog reminds me of the British Communist Party of the 50s, Both in language and tactics.
We can just call his support here the Kucinich Komintern. . . . Or perhaps they just share a chromosome or two with Lyndon's Loonies?

Dean said in an interview recently that the party is only writing off the "hard right."
"The chairman of the Democratic National Committee concedes that some voters might be out of reach - namely people who look to James Dobson's Focus on the Family for voting guidance.
"We're only writing off the hard right that beats up on gays and women," Dean said."
=====================
One of the reasons I always liked Dean is that he is one of the few since Jimmy Carter to understand the spectrum of emotions on the abortion issues - maybe because he's been there as a doctor.
There are women for whom the word "choice" does not ring true for terminating a pregnancy, and that doesn't mean such people hate women or want it to be illegal, but simply don't see it within the framework of a choice for themselves or loved ones.
Everyone has been afraid of the feminist core giving them the third degree burn for expressing such moderation, but Dean realized that such extremism could easily make Democrats look like the religious right on the Schiavo issue.
It is a matter of privacy - not choice. Framing it as a choice is a personal issue, not a public one. Dean understands this, but is muzzled by how much he can say about it.

I wish Stephen Colbert had been allowed to run for president because I would have voted for him. I hope Colbert will try again at another time, perhaps become a Senator or Representative 1st.
I am disappointed in how the system works and do not think anyone should be disallowed running for president. I am disgusted with the way Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are treated by big money. Average people should not be led around by the nose by big money and should vote for Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich if they get the chance, simply because the right wing corporate government and media control doesn't want us to, if for no other reason, because Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich have proved they have intelligence and a will to represent the greater majority. But the reason the right wing corporate government and media don't want us to vote for Mike Gravel or Dennis Kucinich is because they will represent us instead of corporations and big money, and it is time for a hard left turn before we as a country reach a point of no return.
DLC candidates are not left wing candidates at all, only appear to be; which is a thorn in my side since the DLC is running for election on a grassroots website. They say it doesn't hurt anything to take advantage of a fool because the fool will never know anyway, so it doesn't matter; but the problem is there are those of us who do know.
If a candidate was a member of the DLC at one time, as far as I am concerned that person does not have a heart for the greater majority. Even if a candidate has managed to get his/her name off the DLC list before the election, that doesn't mean that that candidate has a heart for the greater majority, it only means that, as bad as that candidate hates it, that candidate has just become aware that, without fraudulent voting, the greater majority vote is needed for their election and being a DLC member doesn't look good for that purpose; otherwise, the DLC Republican Wing of the Democratic Party would have been run out of the Democratic Party long ago.

Congressman Kucinich's record on choice is why I did not support his candidacy in the last election. I've met him on several occasions. He is very nice but I told him that I just couldn't support his candidacy. He has since changed his thinking on choice. Perhaps marriage helped him to think about it differently. I personally know several peace and social justice activists who are anti-choice. They're mostly catholic men who never married. It is a common attitude among religious members in the non-violent movements.
Mike Gravel (who is catholic) also changed his standing on choice after he entered the race but his campaign has yet to complete NARAL's endorsement questionnaire.
In California supporting and protecting choice is in the Democratic State Party's platform. The CDP has a huge Women's caucus. It's the largest among the many. Our new Progressive caucus is also very very large. We also support choice. Unfortunately, not all the CDP caucuses actively support choice. And that needs to change.
There is a contagion world wide to kill off the pro-peace activists.
(And comcast took away Keith and I had to pay $15 plus a dollar a month to get him back. I'm looking into a dish). Interesting that Keith was the only new program removed....I smell a BH rat.

Dear Democracy for America members,
I am writing to you to ask you for your support because you, as much or more than any group of voters in this nation, recognize the real issues confronting our country, the real solutions, and the shortcomings and failures of many of our political leaders in addressing them.
I know that many of you agree with me that half measures, compromises, misguided thinking and hollow rhetoric are not the answers. They are symptomatic of the problems, and, to a regrettable extent, the causes of the problems. That's why we are in a war, and why we're moving ever closer to another. That's why our Constitutional rights and protections are being violated every day. Why 47 millions Americans are uninsured and another 50 million are under-insured. Why millions of American jobs have been outsourced. And every other issue that we, as progressive and independent-thinking Democrats stand for is pushed aside.
DFA members have the power to change that by supporting the one and only candidate who isn't afraid to say what he believes - what you believe - and who won't back down.
Ending the war and preventing the next one
I am the only Democratic presidential candidate who campaigned against and voted against the war authorization resolution in 2002 and every supplemental appropriation since. Five years ago, I presented evidence to my colleagues in the House and Senate based on my own intelligence analysis which showed that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction and was not a direct threat to the U.S. or our allies. I shared that analysis with my Congressional colleagues and rallied more than 120 members to vote against the authorization.
The defense offered by other candidates - "If I knew then what I know now" - is a feeble excuse for making the wrong decision when it mattered most to make the right decision. Many of us did know then because we weren't tricked or bullied by the White House. We knew it was wrong, and we knew the consequences. So did you.
But what makes the newfound anti-war claims of some other candidates even more indefensible is that they voted to continue funding the war, year after year, at least until their Presidential campaigns began. It's simply not enough to say you oppose the war now when you continued to fund it time and time again.
Right now, the war is fully funded until early next year. There is more than enough money available to bring all of our troops and equipment home within a few months, but the Congressional leadership is unwilling to challenge the President.
My plan, embodied in HR 1234, would end the war, end the occupation, establish an international security and peacekeeping force, begin the process of reconciliation, and provide the kind of support needed for reconstruction.
My target is not 2013. My target is three months after taking office.
But in the meantime, we in the Congress, with your support, must use every means at our disposal to force the White House to act now to bring our troops home. And, we must use every means at our disposal to stop the White House from launching a new war on Iran with the same flimsy, deceptive and outright fraudulent claims it used five years ago.
After failing to deliver what it promised in last year's election, the Democratic leadership has a moral obligation, overdue, to live up to its word to the American people. Please cast your vote:
Empowering Constitutional abuses, and ending them
I am the only Democrat running for President who voted against the unconstitutional and illegal U.S.A Patriot Act. The other candidates were wrong then, and various federal court rulings have made that abundantly clear. We can't condone the shredding of our Constitution in the name of "national security." And we can't support leaders, candidates or policies that do. Please cast your vote:
True "universal health care"
I am the only Presidential candidate who supports a truly universal, single-payer, not-for-profit health care system to cover all Americans. Every other plan preserves, and in some cases, enhances the role of private, for-profit insurance companies that make their billions by not providing coverage. Forcing Americans to buy private insurance denies the moral obligation of this nation to provide coverage for its citizens. Any scheme that provides subsidies or other financial incentives to for-profit providers to make coverage less expensive or more accessible is just that: a scheme. It further enriches the insurers, at taxpayers' expense, and would still not guarantee full coverage or universal availability.
Michael Moore has endorsed my health care plan (HR 676), as have thousands of physicians, nurses, and labor union members. It's time to catch up to the rest of the industrialized nations and declare that health care is a right, not a commodity that some people can afford and others can't. No other candidate is willing to take on those insurance companies. I am. And I believe that you are, too. Please cast your vote:

Marriage equality
I am the only candidate running for president who supports full marriage equality. I believe marriage equality is a defining issue for the 21st century. Any two people who love each other should not be denied the right to share their love with each other. The other candidates disagree. Once again, they are wrong.
If we don't stand up for this issue - vote our hearts and our consciences - the Democratic Party and the Democratic candidates will continue to ignore the issue of marriage equality and continue falling back on "civil unions" as a more "acceptable" alternative. It is not acceptable. You know it, and I know it. Please cast your vote:

Impeachment
I am only the presidential candidate willing to demand the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. Every pair of DFA eyes reading this e-mail knows that this President and this Vice President have committed serious crimes worthy of impeachment. This it not a personal attack against the Vice President. It is about the sanctity of the Constitution. This democracy must be protected against leaders who have no regard for the Constitution or the rule of law. The mechanism for taking action against such leaders is impeachment. We, the people, have not only the right but the obligation to stop this. HR 333, which I introduced, is the appropriate recourse under the law to hold those leaders accountable and answerable.
Again, the Congressional leadership and the other candidates are unwilling to take the kind of action that our Constitution, our laws, and our beliefs demand that we take. And again, they are wrong. Please cast your vote:
My candidacy for President of the United States is about who we are as Americans. It is about who we are as Democrats. It is about who we are as progressives. There are clear distinctions between my friends in this race and me -- major differences on every issue of importance to me and to you.I stand proudly for my core beliefs. Only if you and others with the courage to hold the Party and its candidates accountable will we be able to make progress on a real agenda for real change in this nation. And by doing what's right, all of us together, we can send a proud and powerful message that we know what - and who - is wrong. And, very simply, we've had enough.
For more information on my record, please visit my website -- I want DFA members to have direct and constant contact with my campaign. I urge you at any time to reach out to our campaign's national field director, Vin Gopal, by e-mailing him at vin.gopal(at)kucinich.us
I hope to earn your vote in this very important presidential poll.
Please cast your vote today: http://www.DemocracyforAmerica.com/VoteKucinich

Great, now people are being mean to our puddle.
Mrs. Miller, I remember your records. You were a bad singer then and a worse one now. Quit calling puddle names -- we've known her a darn sight longer than we've had the dubious pleasure of your own sunny aquaintance.
Frankly, I'd be surprised if most Dems aren't members of the DLC. Politicians belong to groups, it's just part of how they roll. Being a card-carrying DLC-er doesn't mean one always does as they say. After all, Democrats always fail to be an organized political party -- it's one of our many charms.
Now for something completely different and useful:
If you live in NY as I do, you can and must write Chuck Schumer right now via this webform:
http://www.senate.gov/~schumer/SchumerWebsite/contact/webform.cfm
Don't forget to mention the fact he was also on the wrong side when it came to the original Iraq authorization. I personally will never vote for the man again.
Judge 'em by their votes, not their memberships.

Looks like you might have to cut and paste the webform addy.

I thought I would try again. All that gibberish was not on the copy I submitted. Somehow Dennis Kucinich's letter got messed up on the blog, but no matter what is done to besmirch Dennis, Dennis would be a far cry better president for all the people than any member of the DLC; and if Dennis does get to be President, I hope he picks Mike Gravel as his Vice President, because Mike Gravel is super as well.
Wow, now the Miller's find the last public DLC's website membership list. But why do they need to keep posting and reposting these lists. And why do they try to implicate me in their game of constantly posting these long list of names? LOL
I know I provided the link, you don't need to prove it.

As for the DLC being an organization that democratic politicians can belong to when they represent the 70% majority common population -- I think not. The DLC is an EXTREME Right Wing radical organization. Voters will have to get the Left Wing politicians straighten out that have forgotten who they represent, or did not know the difference in the first place, in the Primary Elections. Apparently you are one of the ones who do not know the difference between your right and your left.

============
That's sterotyping ethnic types, just as it would be for blacks, jews, country folks, etc... presidential candidates don't have the luxury of such bias.
the term "anti-choice" is a demogogic term when you apply it to public policy, as opposed to how people personally feel about applying the surgical procedure to themselves.
In other words, individuals may not believe abortion is a choice for themselves, while they can simultaneously believe the law should allow for individual prerogaties that do consider it a "choice" for others.
It need not mean they are in favor of forcible denying it to be perceived as a "choice," as a matter of law.
To frame it, with the term "anti-choice" as if they do (deny it to all) is to claim matters of law and private prerogative must be one in the same, and therefore must be a choice for everyone personally, which is a form of demagoguery, and can also be called social engineering.
To puddles and piles of puddle supporters:
When I find an objectionable messy and smelly puddle, I normally put cat litter on it and it soaks up the problem quite well.
The puddle problem on this blog is analogous to a puddle that is in need of cat litter. The puddle problem on this blog is a DLC puddle problem that smells just as bad figuratively as the literal puddle that requires cat litter, and is needful of figurative cat litter to clean up the objectionable DLC puddle along with the DLC infestation of the Democratic Party.
I wasn'tgoing to vote but thanks to Martha's Sat, 11/03/07 7:17 pm post
I did.
My choice in the pulse poll:
1. Write in Al Gore
2. Mike Gravel
3. Dodds
Some were complaining the the voting rules changed midway.
What's the big deal? You have the power to change your vote!
I like the pulse poll, you can express your voting preference and change them without it having any consequences ~

not necessarily.
Trashing a candidate to me would be if there was untruthful name calling going on.
Trashing would be more like what some of the Florida Democrats are choosing to do to Gov. Dean. The decision to deny them their convention delegates had more to do with the DNC Rules Committee members than the DNC Chair. The DNC Chair may have not even voted on the issue. It was a ruling from the DNC Rules Committee and was voted on by that body.
Unless someone understands Roberts Rules of Order they wouldn't know the procedure. Most people have never even heard of Roberts Rules.

So I clicked on the link from Martha's post to go vote.
Was I dreaming when I saw Kucinich automatically put in as the first choice?

Why is there air? The answer is that there is air because air is needed to blow up basketballs, and basketballs continually need to be filled with air as long as basketballs are going to be used in basketball games.
So long as the DLC is active in its objectionable agenda against the 70% majority common population as a class and culture, DLC lists MUST be used to deal with the problem much the same as the requirement for air in basketballs.
I hope this answers your question regarding DLC lists.
I renewed my ACLU membership today.
in some circles they are a bit far out, kind of like the DLC
yes the DLC works against the interests of progressives within the party, but they are in decline, and we outnumber them
the question is, which of the candidates line up with their ideas, which line up with ours?
the DFA pulse poll looks like a gathering of progressives to me, but maybe 10% leaning more to the right and they are welcome to fight it out here too
well, it seems that the miller's want to make politics personal. that's fine, you know, but don't expect less than you give.

My hubby is a pro-choice catholic. I also know a lot of them. He graduated from Notre Dame Law School. He's of Irish decent.
Anti-choice is term used by the NARAL members. They also consider themselves to be for life.

Five years into the Iraq war, it is hard to remember that George W. Bush once was controversial for something that had nothing to do with terrorism or the Middle East. But in “The Big Con,” Jonathan Chait reminds us that Bush will also leave an economic legacy, and it is as radical and, he argues, as wrongheaded as anything his administration has managed overseas.

We are all products of our experiences. Stereotypes can be reinforced by those experiences, and vice versa. For instance, my wife comes from a developing country, and a big family of many children. While some might associate that with Catholic church brainwashing, it might appear true, if my wife's family were religious, but they are not. If fact, some of her religious childhood friends had small families.
The fact of the matter is there is a demographic transition where a traditional agricultural modernity changes children from an asset to a liability, and religion has little to do with it.
Her seven or eight brothers are in their twenties and have yet to father any children at all.

I did not find the DLC list. You gave me the DLC list voluntarily, which if you were ashamed of the DLC list, you should not have given the DLC list to me, but you did. I am not implicating you, you implicated yourself, and for that I am grateful.
The reason I keep posting the DLC list is because it is a DLC list, and the DLC is very active. The people of the common population have a need to know who the DLC candidates are. We do not have to wonder what the DLC candidates will do, they have done what they do since the time of Ronald Reagan, which is to COOPERATE WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY against the best interest of the 70% majority common population, which is nearly 3/4th of the population of the United States.
DLC Bill Clinton was the best REPUBLICAN president ever, and I am certain if DLC Hillary Clinton gets in to the presidency will do her best to out do DLC Bill, and will be a better REPUBLICAN president than Bill was if that is possible, as will any of the DLC Republican duopolists, which is all of the candidates with the exception of Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich.
My first choice is Mike Gravel, because Mike Gravel has the grit I think is needed to accomplish what needs to be done to get our country out of the hands of the corporations and bring democracy back to the people. Dennis Kucinich is my 2nd choice for representation of democracy for the people as Dennis is not beholding to corporations. I'm afraid DLC Al Gore would have to be beholden to corporations. Both Gravel and Kucinich are not beholden to corporations. Chris Dodd would be my favorite DLC candidate if I had to chose a DLC candidate, because he wrote the Family Sick Leave Law which was a wonderful benefit to working families when they are sick or their children are sick to keep them from losing their jobs, but Chris Dodd is DLC and in the long run the corporations would have control, because the DLC is controlled by the corporations.
I do not have to chose a DLC candidate because there is Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich who will represent the greater majority population as a separate class and culture, because the common population masses are a seperate class and culture. The DLC seperated from the common population and made themselves a new class and culture, and they need to go on over to the Republicans, because this country doesn't need any more than one elite class and culture.

Anti-choice is term used by the NARAL members. They also consider themselves to be for life
==============
Everyone is "for life" or one might say, everyone has their own definition. That's why I would never call someone from NOW or NARAL "anti-life", but have no problem with those who call themselves, pro life, if that's how they see themselves, which doesn't necessarily mean they want to legally ban pregnancy termination, if they enjoy that label.
However, I'll admit there is a bias towards seeing a fetus as a human being, particularly in the 2nd trimester, and especially the third trimester. Such personal views should not be a threat to NARAL or Democrats. To each her/his own.
mprov, not in my book, but others like to claim if you say anything negative (and I mean a fact that dosn't paint them in a good light) it is trashing....unless of course they want to do it against their own preferred. LOL

mprov, yes terrible whats been going on in Mexico. The other day they show pictures eerily looking like NOLA with water up to roof tops.
And, I wasn't familiar with Studs Terkel, but I am now. Sounds like quite a man. Good to have him on the Al Gore band wagon.
I love when there are people I admire or really like and find out they support the same person. Like Gore Vidad......all the way to Jeff Goldblum :)
Later life
In 2004, Terkel received the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Colby College.
In August 2005, Terkel underwent successful open-heart surgery. At 93 years old, he was one of the oldest people to undergo this form of surgery and doctors reported his recovery to be remarkable for someone of his advanced age.
On May 22, 2006, Terkel, along with other plaintiffs, filed a suit in federal district court against AT&T to stop the telecommunications carrier from giving customer phone records to the National Security Agency without a court order.[1]“ Having been blacklisted from working in television during the McCarthy era, I know the harm of government using private corporations to intrude into the lives of innocent Americans. When government uses the telephone companies to create massive databases of all our phone calls it has gone too far. ”
"The suit was dismissed by Judge Matthew F. Kennelly on July 26, 2006. Judge Kennelly cited a "state secrets privilege" designed to protect national security from being harmed by lawsuits.[2]
Terkel has completed a new personal memoir entitled Touch and Go, to be published in the fall of 2007"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studs_Terke...

Only on the Israeli issue (from a distance.) If she were to go there and live for awhile, she would come back a different person. I am currently reading "Blood and Religion" by Jonathan Cook, corresondent from Nazareth, and the book is giving me nightmares.

The above link explains waterboarding quite well. Waterboarding is an evil practice.
FRED from OR: I am certain puddle is not a right winger as there are very few real right wingers, all of the common popoulation that think they are Republicans are carrying water for the right wingers. Puddle running down Dennis Kucinich on this democratic grassroots blog where he should be built up, not tore down is carrying water for the right wingers. The DLC is a RIGHT WING organization; NOT A GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION. The DLC is the REPUBLICAN WING OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY and for the DFA grassroots blog to be carrying water for the Republican Wing of the Democratic Party is unconscionable as Governor Howard Dean originated DFA as a grassroots organization to represent democracy, NOT AUTOCRACY.
W hat was the point of Governor Dean originating the grassroots DFA organization in the first place if DFA doesn't have the strength of character to carry through for the grassroots; but continuously go along with the Republican Wing of the Democratic Party that Governor Dean was against in the 1st place???????
Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are grassroots candidates and should be supported by the DFA. The DFA is a MOVEMENT. Winning is not the main objective. Winning would be good but the main objective is awareness, and awareness takes time. It took 50 years for the RIGHT WING MOVEMENT to take over control of the government and it could take 50 years before the DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT regains control. One should not just throw over what is gained just so we can say we have won, like fools.
Democracy For America, DFA, was originated as a BASE ORGANIZATION of a democratic movement to empower the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION as a class and culture to take its rightful position alongside the classes and cultures of the American aristocracy and the Professional Middle Class; and Democracy For America, DFA due to incompetent and disingenuous leadership has allowed itself to be taken over by those classes and cultures that DFA was moving against in representation of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION as a class and culture.
Unless DFA can be reclaimed as a movement, DFA, has FAILED as a BASE MOVEMENT ORGANIZATION representative of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, and has become a PUPPET for the classes and cultures of the American aristocracy and the Professional Middle Class represented by the Democratic Leadership Council, DLC.
I'm not buying what you Millers are selling in that package, even as there is truth in in.
Listen to John Edwards on This Week.
ps.
I'm posting here because seashell broke the blog for me on her number 8 post on the next thread.
John Edwards speaks for me. I will caucus for him unless Gore enters. In no way is he a DLC democrat, quite the opposite.
John Edwards joined the corporate controlled DLC. Does John Edwards deny joining? I guess he will say it is another mistake, like his mistake of being a follower and voting for the war. I cannot see how he could have ever joined the corporate controlled DLC in the 1st place, since he purports to be such a representative leader of the common population, but he did; he followed right along, just like he did when he voted for the war on terror. Now, at the present time, it is not politically advantageous to be for the war or the corporate controlled DLC, so Edwards is doing the backwards crayfish crawl on his DLC membership, as are all DLC members, but John Edwards is listed as a DLC member, so it is highly unlikely Edwards will do any more than talk when it comes to leadership of the common 3/4th population of the nation that he feels he has risen above.

Thank you for the post. I just emailed Sen. Feinstein to urge her to change her vote on Mukassey.
