DFA's Ted Nixon gets major newspaper endorsement

Written by: volney simmons on Oct 25, 2007 9:28 AM EDT

DFA-Lister Ted Nixon, running for an open county legislature seat in the Rochester, NY, area, has received the endorsement of the county's daily newspaper, the Democrat and Chronicle.

In part, the endorsement states:

Nixon, who also has the Working Families line, is the better candidate. He has experience as a successful businessman and as a public school teacher in the Churchville-Chili district — not the typical sort of career transition. That Nixon made it says a lot about his willingness to serve the community. Overall, Nixon, who ran for this seat in 2005 but lost to incumbent Smith, has a deeper familiarity with the issues and fresher ideas for the future.

Ted will be facing withering attacks in the final days of the campaign, because his victory along with two more will turn the majority of the legislature. For more about Ted and ways you can help, visit his website. Thanks for all that you do!

Howard Dean is FIRST --- wherever he is.

Warning:  This may be hard to read for some… Israel shaken by troops' tales of brutality against Palestinians (excerpts)

'One soldier said “ The most important thing is that it removes the burden of the law from you. You feel that you are the law. You are the law. You are the one who decides “  …The soldiers described dozens of incidents of extreme violence. One recalled an incident when a Palestinian was shot for no reason and left on the street. 'We were in a weapons carrier when this guy, around 25, passed by in the street and, just like that, for no reason - he didn't throw a stone, did nothing - bang, a bullet in the stomach, he shot him in the stomach and the guy is dying on the pavement and we keep going, apathetic. No one gave him a second look,' he said.

The soldiers developed a mentality in which they would use physical violence to deter Palestinians from abusing them. One described beating women. 'With women I have no problem. With women, one threw a clog at me and I kicked her here [pointing to the crotch], I broke everything there. She can't have children. Next time she won't throw clogs at me. When one of them [a woman] spat at me, I gave her the rifle butt in the face. She doesn't have what to spit with any more

On one occasion, the soldiers were escorting some arrested Palestinians. The arrested men were made to sit on the floor of the bus. They had been taken from their beds and were barely clothed, even though the temperature was below zero. The new recruits trampled on the Palestinians and then proceeded to beat them for the whole of the journey. They opened the bus windows and poured water on the arrested men

"So we do a first patrol with him. It's 6am, Rafah is under curfew, there isn't so much as a dog in the streets. Only a little boy of four playing in the sand. He is building a castle in his yard. He [the officer] suddenly starts running and we all run with him. He was from the combat engineers.   'He grabbed the boy. I am a degenerate if I am not telling you the truth. He broke his hand here at the wrist, broke his leg here. And started to stomp on his stomach, three times, and left. We are all there, jaws dropping, looking at him in shock..." 'The next day I go out with him on another patrol, and the soldiers are already starting to do the same thing."http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0%2C%2C2196019%2C00.html

As Florida has its Democratic convention in Orlando this week,  with two major bloggers speaking, one by phone and one as keynote.....I want them to remember something.   As they listen to Steny Hoyer give a speech, they need to remember something.

That a lot of people are not there because of the stress and anger generated by their little primary temper tantrum, by the lawsuits which they plan to continue to the Supreme Court if need be, by the propaganda they spread at the start.   They need to remember that they handled it all very badly indeed.

The two bloggers have taken the side of the Florida party, and one recently wrote an ugly blog about Dean.    I am sure they will fit in quite well with the rest there at the convention who only think of themselves first.

And I will always remind them that from the beginning they went along with the GOP, and they lied and blamed the DNC.   They sent emails saying not to donate, they said Dean stole their vote.  It was childish behavior.   Matt and Kos,  have fun.   Maybe you will see Bill Nelson who is not going to give up fighting even if his lawsuit failed.  His campaign against the DNC and Dean are the most important thing in his life.

Here is my reminder that they were all for changing the primary.   They worked right along with the GOP all the way.

"Florida Democrats are all for it," Mark Bubriski, spokesman for the Florida Democratic Party, said at the time. (The time was March 2006)

Edwards raps Clinton, Romney on Iran By AMY LORENTZEN, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 47 minutes ago

Clinton was supportive of the administration move.

"We must work to check Iran's nuclear ambitions and its support of terrorism, and the sanctions announced today strengthen America's diplomatic hand in that regard," she said.

-----------

Unilateral sanctions are unhelpful at a time when the IAEA is in the confidence building process with Iran. Its almost as if the U.S. is more interested in armed confrontation than serious dialogue. Sadly, the former choice, in regards to Iraq, has led to a catastrophe that has claimed 700,000 Iraqi lives.

Hi - just stopped by to catch up on the threads. mary vb I took the ABC poll and got same results as you - Kucinich, Gravel, Paul

I rented a Mozart Requiem from Blockbuster - it is the 1991 commemoration of Mozart's death 200 years ago w/ Solti conducting at St. Stephens in Vienna which I've visited. Our friend Rene Pape was the bass soloist at the tender age of 27.

I think I'm going to bed early so have a great night everyone. See ya on the flip flop.

Governor Dean's statement on the California wildfires:

"As the wildfires continue to rage, our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of California. In this time of crisis, you are not alone. I also want to thank the firefighters, rescue workers, volunteers, National Guard and all who have answered the call to help. Their service and sacrifice demonstrates the best of America and affirms that in times of need, we come together to help one another."

I want to thank our workers at DNC. They do so much for the people. I am thankful I am with the peoples party. Even though the people that lost homes are wealthy, we all know some things you can't replace. I hope they all had a fire proof safe in their homes for personal things like family pictures.

Beside this happening, our Party works so hard to get our people elected and Dean is still pushing for victory. He has a wonderful way of thinking up plans for our success. I know he must spend hours each day thinking how he can improve the way he organizes the party. Thanks Dean for your wonderful mind. I hope you stay the Chairman for many years to come.

"We must work to check Iran's nuclear ambitions and its support of terrorism, and the sanctions announced today strengthen America's diplomatic hand in that regard," she said.

The realization that, if not Gore, only the voters of IA and NH can stop this war mongering hypocrite is beyond sobering -- it's depressing.

It came to light (sunshine is a great disinfectant) during the House Oversight testimony with Secretary Rice today that the Iraqi PM, Mr. Maliki, has to approve any corruption investigation going forward about members of his cabinet. Apparently, Mr. Maliki blocked a corruption investigation of his cousin, a Tranportation Minister. This is deeply troubling considering the fact that American men and women are dying to prop up this corrupt clique. In addition, we are flushing 12 BILLION dollars a month down the toilet there to prop up this corrupt clique.....and we still have MILLIONS of American children who lack needed healthcare coverage.
