Obama should agree to 10 town hall meetings with McCain
It will give him plenty of time to explain his philosophical and policy differences with McCain the the Republicans. It will give the American people a better chance to know him. And 10 town hall meetings, with questions from the public, will give enough time to avoid or dilute "gotcha" moments and gaffs. I know political strategists often want to limit their opponents' exposure when their guy/gal is ahead. Since Obama promised us a new style of politics, I think avoiding town hall meetings is the wrong move for him. I propose DFA petition his campaign to change its mind. Thus, my first blog. Agreement? Discussion?
I agree with you.
There should be town hall meetings. Here's why it won't happen though.
Obama is a charismatic speaker who has goos speech writers, as a combination they make him seem perfect. Unfortunately, when pressed to give actual plans of action or nitty gritty specifics to any of his claims, he simpyl doen't have any (or can't seem to express any of them).
He will not do town hall meetings because they will show him to be a man of charisma without substance.
I, personally, would love hear how he plans to make all of the changes he is talking about, but I have consistently been ignored by Daivd Plouffe and his campaign volunteers (thus Obama himself as well) when I have sent numerous e-mails asking for specific information.
We need someone in office who is actually going to change things, not someone who is going to make grandiose claims with a plan to achieve them.
We need a third candidate.
Maybe you similarly wanted him to accept Clinton's invitation to a debate every week until the Pennsylvania primary.

- Town Halls
By Laura Hubka on Jun 14, 2008 4:04 PM EDTThis is just an excuse for McCain and nothing else. If they did have town halls, I think that they should be there at seperate times. Let Obama go first and then watch the room clear out for McCain. That would be telling.
The twixt of this game is that McCain can not get enough people to come and listen to him. Obama can bring crowds of thousands. McCain wants the chance to look like people are supporting him.
I say, have 4 or maybe 5 regional town halls. NW, SW, NE, SE and Mid-West. I say the campaign shell out the money for Obama shirts in the brightest color imaginable and make sure every supporter has one on. I say also that there is a huge pre-townhall rally outside. Let Obama speak there before he goes in. The people outside can be lound and chanting. No one can stop a million voices calling for change!
