Jim Dean in Mississippi with DFA-List Candidate Gary Anderson
Jim Dean and Insurance Commissioner Candidate Gary Anderson made the Jackson Free Press in Mississippi:
‘Blue Dot in a Red Sea’
Democracy for America Chairman Jim Dean endorsed Democratic candidate Gary Anderson for Mississippi Insurance Commissioner last week during a visit to Anderson’s campaign headquarters.
Dean told the Jackson Free Press that he and the pro-Democratic organization Democracy for America endorsed Anderson because of his pledges to take no campaign donations from insurance companies, and to give policyholders easy-to-read language without small-print pitfalls.
“That is a message that the whole nation could agree with,” said Dean, whose organization has helped raise $7,000 for Anderson’s campaign. “Many insurance commissioners get campaign contributions from insurance companies. Many talk about rates the one or two times a year that it comes up, or they talk about plain English policies. ... When Gary talks about that, I think about a lot of other places where voters, both Republicans and Democrats, would respond very positively.”
DFA is a political action committee inspired by the 2004 presidential campaign of former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. Dean’s campaign made waves as one of the first truly grass-roots political efforts in decades, setting new records in private versus business contributions.

I second your first, Huron John. Oh, I haven't felt such elation since going to Iowa for Howard.

SPINELESS DEMOCRATS
This week's much touted rebuke to immunity-seeking telecommunications companies may be scrapped as Senate Democrats are appearing ever more ready to accede to President Bush's demands.
Reports are emerging that the Senate is preparing to introduce a foreign surveillance law update that would shield telecommunications companies from litigation or prosecution over their assistance in the National Security Agency's warrantless wiretapping program instituted after Sept. 11.

Good morning Borg - great news about Al. On Wash Journal this morning he was the call in question. A couple of callers mentioned the run for Prez, and you could tell Greta the moderator wanted to take the conversation that way, but many said there was no global warming, etc. So I have mixed feelings about his running. On the one hand I think he would be a great Prez, on the other hand, it is going to hurt to watch him get beat up on as will happen (perhaps it's already happening?) if he decides to get in. Must say Hill and Barack look a little pale in comparison.
It's a special day in north Florida -- open window day! After months entombed in blessed A/C, I've opened the windows and doors and that way they'll stay till we get our three days of winter.
Off for errands. bbl

Draft Gore Statement on Al Gore
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize
We are gratified by the awarding of this prestigious award to Al Gore. It confirms our judgment of the man, his principles, vision, experience, efforts, and promise. He is in a unique position to lead not only our country, but to make our America a leader for peace in the world.
This award will only add to the tremendous tidal wave of support for Al Gore and the growing demands that he become a candidate for President in 2008. He is in a unique position to make a difference in the world on the one issue he believes to be the most important of our times. We believe under the circumstances he has no choice but to take the one step left to have the greatest impact in changing policy on global warming -- run for President.

Yeah, Im happy today for allof us regardless of our petty differances.............we,ve been kicked around quite a bit the last 7 years eh?
I think deep down inside many in this country what a mistake they made in not electing Gore in 2000...........but maybe that ws the way it was supposed to go......who knows?

Now, why would Bill Clinton have cut radio ads for Bobby Rush?
The internets are really sluggish. Too much traffic?
Hi again,
It will be interesting to see how long it takes the right wing idiots to go after Al Gore.
And an aside, while John Edwards talks a good story, once more his snide and snarky aspects come to the fore with his remark how he had overcome the inevitability of Dean. What a dumb thing to say, and it reveals, at least to my way of thinking, he's something of a snot, a rather tirivial and juvenile individual. Just my perspective. I've never liked him since I heard him make the remark at the democartic debate in Iowa that Southerners didn't need someone like Dean telling them what to do. It didn't say much to me about his breadth of vision or character, and it still doesn't.
GO AL!
What an awesome way to wake up today - my daughter shouting to us *Al Gore won*. I have chills.
Congratulations, Vice President Gore. I'll second President Carter by saying that I'd like to see Gore in the White House as well.
WOOT!!!!!!!!
This is a nice little video on Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Mike, I'll agree that things happen for a reason, as long as Al Gore takes the White House this time around. :)

Pat, I don't know if the Right Wingers can do any more attacking than
they have been this week. It's been unbelievable. As example of them appearing here
proves.
AL GORE, OF COURSE!
He is doing more than anyone in saving the world from disaster and has been doing that for more than 30 years.
Congrats to our Hero, along with Howie of course.
Yes, Jimmy Carter told Joe Scarborough's show it is his habit not to endorse in the Primary, but he told Matt Lauer, if Al Gore runs, he will endorse him.
AWESOME!!! Thank you Jimmy Carter .
Run, Al, Run
Run, Al, Run
Run, Al, Run
Pat in Co - My husband echoes your sentiments about Edwards almost verbatim.

I'm not sure who to support if Gore doesn't run. Nobody thrills me yet. Howard was/is a once in a lifetime sort of candidate IMO. I could feel a lot of passion for a Gore run however.

REARDON ON AL RUNNING
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathleen-reardon/should-al-take-the-plunge_b_68186.html
In February the possibility of Al Gore running for president seemed unlikely. It looked this way to me and very little has changed.
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize changes very little. Were he to run for president, as so many want, it would be a decided step away and, if the current presidency is any indication, down from the heights he has reached, and the impressive environmental goals he has achieved.
The primary question is whether the Democratic candidates are decidedly inferior to him? And, if so, are we willing to sacrifice the focused efforts of such a superb environmentalist whose work the Nobel committee considers highly relevant to peace in the world?
Even if he were willing to run for president, wouldn't his entry into the maelstrom of presidential primaries at this point, with expectations through the roof for all that he has become, set him up for disappointing most voters?
Gore is an extraordinary man but has been able to emerge as such largely due to focus and arguably the absence of constant attacks. Surely he knows that after the initial honeymoon, voters will begin to demand quick, consistent, enlightened responses on a broad range of topics and quick comebacks to inane questions and debasing insults. Should he go there?
There are so many compelling reasons to vote for Al Gore were he to run for president. But I can't help but feel he has found his niche and taking him from it would be a substantial loss extending beyond the borders of the U.S. and far into the future.
In a stunning reversal, but true to their core beliefs, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 today that Al Gore cannot accept the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize awarded him.
The court, in an unsigned finding (as are all Gore decisions) responded to George Bush's anticipatory plea for a restraining order based on the fact that "it's not all that hot out anyhow and what in the hell has that got to do with peace?"
Naming the Nobel Committee "just a bunch of Norwegian troublemakers," the court held that Gore cannot accept an award from "those who live too far north to know what warm really feels like." The ruling came within twenty minutes of the announcement and caught Nancy Pelosi, uncharacteristically, in a brown dress.
Dana Perino said the White House would have no comment other than an unconfirmed report by a source that declines to be identified, that the president called Chief Justice John Roberts, effusing "this is the second time that bum has had his ears trimmed by this court and you'd think he'd have finally learned a lesson."
According to a source close to the president, this is only the second time in his career that he has effused.
