Cindy Sheehan to speak at Vermont impeachment rallies

Written by: Jennie Lorain on Jul 9, 2006 1:18 PM EDT

From the Boston Globe...

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan will visit Vermont this month to support local efforts calling for the impeachment of President George Bush.

Sheehan is expected to speak July 30 at rallies in Brattleboro and Montpelier.

Newfane selectman Dan DeWalt, who drafted the impeachment resolution in his town, said Sheehan's visit will be a "call to arms" for the impeachment movement.

"We've sat on the sidelines too long and now it is time to act," DeWalt said.

Seven Vermont towns have passed resolutions this year calling for Bush's removal from office or for an investigation into whether Bush misled the country into going to war.

John Dizard: Cracks start to show in a nuclear power monopoly

By John Dizard

Published: June 12 2006 16:10 | Last updated: June 12 2006 16:10

The United States Enrichment Corporation, which for now has a national monopoly on the enrichment of uranium for nuclear power reactors, is at risk of turning into the Impoverishment Corporation for its shareholders.

USEC is the trust fund baby of the American nuclear industry. It was born in 1998, inheriting leases on the ageing and power-hungry plants that the government had built to separate out the radioactive fraction of uranium that can be used for nuclear reactors or weapons.

It also inherited contracts with the utility industry, a stockpile of uranium, and the economic benefits of an agreement with Russia that allowed the company to sell diluted Russian bomb material. Off the balance sheet, it inherited political influence, partly completed designs for new equipment, and the conviction on the part of the government that the country needed what Europeans would call a ?national champion? in uranium separation.

In the tradition of overindulged rich children, it has proceeded to squander this patrimony like a playboy at St Tropez. However, Darwin?s laws may well catch up with USEC, which, to maintain its position, is effectively betting the entire company on a set of defence contractors? ability to deliver a complex, little-tested technology on a tight schedule and within budget. The odds could be better.

Tireless and self-sacrificing

I, for one, appreciate Cindy's devotion to ending this foreign policy disaster and bringing the troops home. I believe the American people owe Cindy a great deal of gratitude for her sacrifice...suffering unwarranted personal insults from the neconservative base of the rubber-stamp Republican party. However, their personal attacks are just more evidence of what she is doing is right and just.

Keep up the fight Cindy!!!!

Sounds like a scavenger venture for a dying industry. I can see why they would want to pump up and reawaken the "nuclear power dream soluton" while they are trying to liquidate the assets. It offer price support.

In true liberty the foundation of our system is that all have the right to state their views without persecution, and should be respected as legitimate, whether you agree with that view or not. It is the foundation of our system and culture.

Because the current one is not a "featured thread." Only the organizer of a group can designate a post as such.

However, any member of the group can post a new thread. That's what Jennie did. If the topic is not congenial, people can post on others.
Or, if a thread gets toxic, people can engage in conversation somewhere else. LOL

The far left and far right are both on a crusade of conspiracies. The far right could never quite figure out what they "left" media wouldnt print all the information about Vince Foster being "killed" by Hillary...and the far left can never figure out what they "right" media wont print their loony theories (or why Sheehan gets dismissed out of hand).

Problem is that both the left and right are "self taught" amateurs who really dont have a clue other then their ideology.

When I read your statementson vaccines and electricity etc I am reminded of Dick Cheney at the CIA...

Do we have a choice? No doubt liberals might be kissing their butts too, for good reason. These people can inadvertantly sabatoge the entire continent with just a little recklessness. They got us by the you-know-whats.

I re-read the first 5 books of the OT, the Torah, recently, very carefully, and was amazed to read how often Jews said that God told them to go and take someone's land. The slaughter was awful. I couldn't believe that that was their Torah.

Robert, I'm talking about political strategy. Using one story is a red-herring. I would agree with you except that I know you think anyone left of center on Iraq is your "far left"

I don't know what Dick Cheney has to do with this warped logic of yours, but if my daughter was a Lesbian, there would be a possibility you were right.

As it stands, I have more in common with Rep. Dan Burton (R-Indiana), whose only grandson developed autism within a week of a nine-shot combination shot in one day. I guess he is "incompetent" too, according to your standards. No scientific evidence, of course.

In May 2001, Congressman Dan Burton observered "there is a paucity of research safety of any vaccine" (Burton, 2001)

Let me explain in white-trash language so you can understand and tell your sister. Paucity means "piss poor."

He and others are fighting an uphill battle in Congress to correct that, but Big Pharma and the governemt and the govenment Vaccine Injury and Compensation Program have every thing to lose and nothing to gain in the short term. They won't budge except to design more "studies" skewed for the desired outcome. In the long term the health of the country can go down the tubes. But if that happens Big Pharma makes even more money.

Be ignorant Robert, don't click. it is just a record of the Senate proceeding. No far left propaganda. And Cheyney is at an undisclosed location.

Of such stuff dreams are made-----

Nuclear energy hot talk should also get a boost in August and September, after the North American release of James Lovelocks Revenge of Gaia (Basic Books). The 86-year old scientist has led the charge among the worlds environmentalists to get the greens to go nuclear. The international media has sought out Dr. Lovelocks opinions. Figure well see the same boost in pro nuclear media appearances going into the autumn. As the author appears on numerous talk shows, the polls should swing more heavily into building more nuclear plants. That could add further pressure on utilities to quickly secure inventory.
