Dear Friends,

This weekend, please come out to canvass. Doorstep contact is the proven best way to persuade undecided voters to choose the best candidate for the economy, environment and a rational foreign policy. I've canvassed several times and can tell you that it works. The non-partisans and undecideds are leaning our way.

Follow the link to the Obama events page to find a canvass launch near you. People in Henderson/Green Vally, meet at Silver Springs Park, 2028 Silver Springs Parkway (between Valle Verde and Green Valley Parkway) Sat. Sept. 27 and Sun. Sept. 28. Shifts will begin at 9:30 AM, 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The canvass packets take about two hours to complete, so you don't have to commit all day.

See you on the campaign trail!

Greet Romney 8/27. Do it for Ted!

Dear Friends,

Please join me and Americans United for Change Wednesday, August 27 3:15-4:00 pm to greet Mitt Romney, front-runner for the GOP Veep, at the Henderson Convention Center 200 S. Water Street.  (Water Street and Atlantic) This visit  is intended to detract from coverage of the Democratic Convention, so let's counter with our message that John McMansion McCain is out of touch with Nevada's working families, seniors and veterans and a looming disaster for the environment. We'll have antiwar, anti Yucca, Grand Oil Party and clean energy signs. I hope someone makes a funny "How many houses?" sign. If you have some old keyrings, load them up and bring them along to jingle. Some of those plastic keychains that are baby toys would be amusing, too.
Sorry for the short notice, as I waited to gauge interest in this rally. We will have plenty of time to get home to watch our convention afterward. I'm listening to a clip of Ted Kennedy as I write this, so let's dedicate this one to him.
As always, I will bring lots of signs, flags, a cooler with water and maybe some tunes.
Anyone who speaks Spanish and plans on attending, please let me know.
What: Rally to greet Mitt Romney and counter GOP message
When: Wednesday, August 27, 3:15-4:00 pm
Where: 200 S. Water Street, Henderson Convention Center.
Bring:  Yourself and a friend, a vivid sign, a hat and sunblock
Map: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Henderson&state=NV&address=200+S.+Water+St.

Call or email me with questions or advice.

MCCAIN EVENT: Stand for clean energy and an end to war Wed. 8:45 a.m. at UNLV

Written by: Teresa Crawford on Jun 24, 2008 2:43 AM EDT

Linked to groups: Las Vegas Democracy For America, Henderson NV Democracy For America

Dear Friends,

This is it! Sen. McCain's daily schedule changes made it difficult to finalize plans. But we are the best rapid response team evah! His energy speech at UNLV (Tam Alumni Center, Maryland and Harmon)  is a great opportunity to tell him that Nevada doesn't want recycled Bush. We oppose his callousness toward the troops, neglect of the veterans and phony greenwashing of his ties to Big Oil. Below is the invitation from the Nevada Democratic Party. Many progressive groups will be represented. We will have flags, antiwar signs and a few McSame signs. Feel free to make your own. Remember, McCain has voted FOR Yucca Mountain at every opportunity and did not support the enhanced GI Bill. His top advisor just said that another terrorist attack would be a "big advantage" for the campaign.

Below is the notice from the Nevada Democratic Party. Call the office or me with questions. As always, apologies for duplicates and messaging people whom I know can't attend.

Send Elliot Anderson to Netroots Nation!

Our own DFA member and hard-working veteran's activist, Elliot Anderson, applied for a  DFA scholarship to Netroots Nation. The third annual convention for the vibrant Daily Kos community takes place late July in Austin. I voted for Elliot because I know he will derive maximum benefit from the networking and exchange of ideas that happens when progressive thinkers and writers from around the nation gather.

Please log on and vote for Elliot, too. It takes a quick minute. I could tell you all he's done in the two years I've known him, but check out his resume for yourself. Here's a link to his application page:

And here is his Daily Kos diary on his bid for the scholarship.

Support Our Troops Care Package Party Sat. May 24

Written by: Teresa Crawford on May 21, 2008 9:26 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Las Vegas Democracy For America

Dear DFA Friends,

Unbelievably, it's been a year since DFA member and head of the Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus, Elliot Anderson, organized the first party to build care packages. Over 100 people attended and we prepared 115 boxes for shipment to soldiers in Iraq.  The message that good citizens can support the troops, but not the war, came through loud and clear in the great media coverage.

Bring whatever you can: snacks, toiletries, batteries, books and magazines. I just filled a cart at CostCo.

Please join us Saturday morning 9 AM at the Laborers' Union, 4201 East Bonanza Rd. (West of N. Lamb). Call me if you want more info.  526-8445

Peace,

Iraq and Recession Report Press Conference, 4/24

Written by: Teresa Crawford on Apr 21, 2008 9:29 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Las Vegas Democracy For America

Dear Friends,

Please join MoveOn leader Sue Brooks and other citizens opposed to the occupation of Iraq at a press conference to highlight the crippling effect of Iraq on Nevada's economy .  In a  Move/National Priorities Project poll, the majority of Nevadans'say money spent on the war--now $760M per day-- should be used for domestic priorities. I can't attend because I am working, but hope anyone who is free in the middle of the day can lend their presence. I know this is the third activity in five weeks, but the cost of war is currently a top issue in the media and these events help put a human and local face on it.

Visit the National Priorites Project Website for more info on the out of control spending in Iraq.  http://www.nationalpriorities.org/
