TABOR Tantrum
Linked to groups: T-Town DFA
In a press release Monday, Oklahoma State Senator Randy Brogdon threw a TABOR Tantrum by attacking Attorney General Drew Edmondson personally, for a multi-county grand jury's indictment of three of his cronies. Brogdon chose to berate Edmondson rather than the grand jury who actually issued the indictments. Maybe it's safer to attack an elected Democrat, than the decent Oklahomans who made up the grand jury.
The case involves the petition drive to put to the vote of the people, a measure to limit the growth of state spending, commonly known as TABOR. The petitions were invalidated by the Oklahoma Secretary of State and Supreme Court because they were collected fraudulently and Brogdon's cohorts were indicted for "conspiring to defraud the state," and willfully "filing a false and fictitious petition."
Senator Brogdon goes on to accuse the Attorney General of action that "has cast the state in a negative light and has been criticized by publications read throughout the nation and world." Many Oklahomans remember that the editorial writers of The Wall Street Journal and Forbes magazine also highly praised Enron's "Kenny Boy" Lay and WorldComm's Bernie Ebbers. Lay died before going to prison and Ebbers got 25 years in the slammer!

Clinton was scheduled to give an address at the Democratic National Committee meeting in Vienna, Va., Friday afternoon, but DNC Chairman Howard Dean announced from the podium that Clinton would not speak.
Authorities were sending a tactical bomb unit to assist local police, and the area was evacuated, Hambrook said. Authorities were trying to negotiate with the suspect, he said. A nearby school was in lockdown.
The small Clinton office is located in the New England community's downtown area in a strip of several storefronts, and has large glass windows with a campaign sign out front. Police with guns drawn crouched behind cruisers across the street from the office.
Workers for Sen. Barack Obama's campaign office also evacuated, a campaign spokesman said. The office is four doors away from Clinton's. Staffers in John Edwards' office, a few buildings away, evacuated as well.

And of course I'm not a woman but I am related to some, and they unquestionably deserve the right to choose whether to bring a pregnancy to term because reproductive rights are a private matter and government should not be dictating choices such as these.

I agree 100%. I just wish you were consistent and knew the height of arrogance it is to believe you should dictate to me my other private choices in my life. And if you don't do it to your neighbor why would some loser like a policitician make you anymore comfortable. You have met these guys, I would let them sit and watch my dog while I am out of town for the weekend, and you trust them to limit your choices in life. Sad.

9 & 11, Actually you are right Sitka. It was Wilhelm, Richard being his middle name.
Both remaining Clinton campaign volunteers have been released.
Now it's just the bomb-strapped man left inside the Rochester campaign office versus the NH state police teams outside.
Did Rudy say what he wanted when he walked into the Clinton office? Maybe he got confused and thought she was one of his former mistresses.
The argument is settled. Sitka and Rdorgan are both right -- Dean IS first.
Hope you all didn't miss at least part of the DNC committee on C-span today. Probably be replayed this weekend if you did.
Excellent speeches by Howard, Gov. Ritter, Richardson, Obama, Edwards, Kucinich and most of all by Joe Biden.
Does anyone suspect that the hostage thing in Rochester NH had anything to do with this convention? The timing feels sort of suspect, since it began soon after the committee meeting began and ended almost at the same time the meeting did.
Hmmm!
At the end of this afternoon's meeting, someone stood up and gave Howard some kudos, which were not discernable, and then they chanted 4 more years. I didn't make out his reply, but I got the impression that he wasn't interested. Anyone else hear?
I think the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans when it comes to being evil corporatists. One example is the stellar Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, or Son of Patriot Act, which was sponsored by the Democrats own filthy rich Jane Harman of So Cal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Harman... and passed overwhelmingly already by the House of Reps. With friends like the Democrats in Congress, who needs Republicans?

...lol, lesson taken.
Well, if I had to make a guess, I would say it was Peter Mac Donald in Hillary's office. He's always wanting to talk to public officials and writes long letters which they perceive as threatening. You can Google him.
You know I was not even close to first, I think there were at least 5 comments posted when I posted mine which jumped to first.
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

And he DID pull the chute prematurely over the snake river canyon in 1974..........for whatever reason................still, a somewhat brave guy...........crazy too.
Fox wrote "I just wish you were consistent and knew the height of arrogance it is to believe you should dictate to me my other private choices in my life."
Me consistent? You like to invade this space with your unctuous, self-righteous ruminations about conservative dogma and, for a coda, mention your antipathy towards the touchstone social issue for admission into proper right wing society, so sacred that even Ron Paul embraces it. I'm sorry. You're inconsistent.
There is government involvement in the lives of citizens because in a group society such as ours, anarchy only serves the purposes of anti-social mischief makers. Murder, robbery and larceny laws, inconvenient though they are, do help make it a little easier to walk around without getting strafed by gunfire after being unburdened of your material possessions. Traffic lights do prevent those pesky 24 car pile-ups. Air and water quality standards do keep us from having to swim among floating carcuses in Lake Filthy during a smog alert, at least a little.
Don't tell me. You also support the abolishment of the IRS, social security, medicare, the FDA, the interstate highway system and federal natural preservation areas.
ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Two brothers re-arrested last week as suspects in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway will be released from jail, a prosecutor said Friday.
This WOULD be headline news for th next week............eisenberg goofed it all up though.
EXCUSE ME!!!!!????
they unquestionably deserve the right to choose whether to bring a pregnancy to term
A "right" is not a matter of deserving anything. A right is an entitlement, in this instance associated with being a female human--human functions are not subject to the laws of man.
It was clearly a mistake to enumerate SOME human rights in the Constitution. The enumeration gave the impression that these human attributes were somehow liable to being approved by a legal document. Consequently, we now have people arguing that this "approval" can be withdraws under certain conditions--i.e. that it's not absolute.
Bringing a pregnancy to term is not a matter of choice either. A pregnancy can be interrupted and terminated prematurely. Bringing it to term is a function of nature which is only minimally susceptible to human intervention--i.e. providing constant bed-rest MIGHT pre-empt a natural abortion.
What most males seem incapable of understanding is that pregnancy is an inherently dangerous process. To insist that a pregnancy continue is to potentially impose a sentence of death. Which is why the Supreme Court found an "undue burden."
What most males seem incapable of understanding is that pregnancy is an inherently dangerous process.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Err, ahh.............how else does one prolong the survival of the species?
Michael, that it's dangerous doesn't mean you don't do it; it means that you don't force someone to do it. Better yet, you appreciate the danger and make every effort to mitigate it as much as possible. And you certainly don't coddle rapists, as used to be the case.

Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others
PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.
I think Howard should run for Leahey's seat. Then, only Vermont voters will get 4000 repititions of the "Dean Scream"
Huron John.....
The Media are the only ones to be embarrassed by their Dean Scream.
When Howard was in nc last year, and there was a problem with the mic, he said, "i'm glad that got fixed, because I was getting ready to start screaming." The audience laughed, applauded and started screaming.

Olmert warns of 'end of Israel'
Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said failure to negotiate a two-state solution with the Palestinians would spell the end of the State of Israel.
............
"If the day comes when the two-state solution collapses, and we face a South African-style struggle for equal voting rights, then, as soon as that happens, the State of Israel is finished," Mr Olmert is quoted saying in Haaretz newspaper.
...........

Poor, poor Olmert...., what he's going to do, which People will he "lead" if such "tragedy" happens..., lol?
He probably dreams that Jewish People can't survive without the State of Israel...? They've DONE it for more then 5000 years..., they will do it some more years..., without their "own" State...and without "Olmerts"..., lol.
Are Republicans More Likely to Lie or Be Deluded? Or is it some third factor?

Subject: Senator Barbara Boxer on Global Warming
November 30, 2007
Dear Friend:
When I became Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works [1], one of my priorities was to work with my Senate colleagues to bring national attention and public policy change to global warming.
We have held hearings, viewed for ourselves the dramatic and rapid changes brought about by global warming in Greenland, and worked to craft legislation on global warming that will have the support to become law. And our work is paying off. I am pleased to provide my recent statement on legislation by Senators Joe Lieberman and John Warner. You can view my statement by using the link on the right or clicking here [2].
This legislation represents the first important step in combating global warming and will provide a framework for change. You can count on me to continue my work on global warming.
Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

Global Warming Breakthrough?
Gore to Unveil Revolutionary New Technology
related articles Al Gore & Silicon Valley Jump Start Renewable Energy
By Dan Shapley
A new climate-saving energy source made possible by a revolutionary scientific breakthrough "super material" will be unveiled tonight.
Details have been deliberately kept sketchy, but the founder of the British Inventors' Society, Kane Kramer, dropped some tantalizing hints in a London Independent piece.
Al Gore will be on hand to unveil the new technology at a high-powered, high-priced Fortune Forum foundation dinner where the guests are estimated to be worth more than $200 billion, according to the Independent. Gore, who is best known as the former Vice President/failed presidential candidate turned Nobel Peace Prize-winning global warming campaigner, has also joined an influential Silicon Valley investment firm specializing in clean tech.
Here are some of the ways Kramer described the energy technology, which he said is the result of a decade of lab work:
a highly marketable technology that would "contribute in a major way to reducing climate change."
a breakthrough in micro-technology, 80% cheaper than "alternative means of production," that will "make things possible that weren't possible before."

It's been a very hard day for all of us.

Gore praises UK's leader for his battle against global warming
The Associated Press
Published: November 30, 2007
LONDON: Al Gore on Friday night praised Prime Minister Gordon Brown for his role in the battle against global warming.
"I'm grateful for his leadership on the issues," the former U.S. vice president said during the keynote speech at the Fortune Forum Summit, an annual event that gathers politicians, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and celebrity activists to support the work of major charities.
"I wish that was the case in my own country," the Nobel Peace Prize winner told the audience at London's Royal Court of Justice.
It included public figures such as musicians Bob Geldof and Damien Rice, actresses Daryl Hannah and Jerry Hall, and English TV presenter David Frost.
The event opened with a video message from Brown, which called Gore an "inspiration" regarding the debate over climate change.
Today in Europe
Brown said, "All of us must accept our share of responsibilities and work together to change. ... We must act now."

Come Together, Right Now!
by Cindy Sheehan
It is absolutely flabbergasting to me that our world will be soon commemorating the 5th year since George Bush announced that the US had commenced “Shock and Awe” against Iraq.
Millions of people marched against the impending invasion all over the world on February 15th, 2003 in one of the most touching and amazing shows of solidarity against global aggression ever seen. Since then, the pro-peace/anti-war demonstrations have been mostly disjointed with not so much solidarity.
I left the peace movement in May of this year partially in frustration over this lack of unity. At the time I was in despair over the fact that the movement had been unable to stop anything because of the egos and the infighting. Since then, the usurpation of our liberties and the killing of our children and the Iraqi people has just grown worse. The movement was unable to stop a funding bill or be united in demanding accountability for the war criminals that have been instrumental in destroying three countries, ours included.
Now, after nearly 5 years of the illegal occupation of Iraq and over 5 years of the immoral occupation of Afghanistan, we all know, even those who watch the propaganda news networks and are in denial, that this war is not only gone horribly wrong from day one, but is a sham based on deceit.
Not only has our foreign policy suffered profoundly under BushCo and Congress Inc., but the foreign war expenditures without a commensurate raise in revenue have driven our country deeply into a quagmire of debt. Our trade deficit is the largest it has ever been and 54,000 homes went into foreclosure in October. Gas is hovering around the $4.00 a gallon mark in the vicinity of San Francisco and is only going to go up. The degradation of our environment is becoming catastrophic while closeted, deviate Republican lawmakers are worried about people of the same sex having intimate relations and Democrats are too busy trying to act like Republicans while pretending to be Democrats. It is up to us—We the People.
Our country is rapidly slipping into a corporate-militaristic fascism and the peace/anti-war movement is worried about personalities and who gets a bigger piece of the pie—and I am not sure what kind of pie it is. The only thing I know about this work is that it is very difficult and requires a lot of sacrifice and commitment without resulting in much monetary reward. The rewards of true and lasting peace with an overthrow of the pigs of war who think they are globally in charge is our reward and seeing a better world for all the worlds’ children and grandchildren is what we should be striving for.
This is why I am calling for The Dave Cline/MLK, Jr. Memorial Peace Summit in January (18-20) to bring all of the various groups together so we can strategize and brainstorm more effective ways of challenging war and injustices.

COOL on the breakthrough by Gore .... I wonder if it's the new Solar Paint I heard about. YOu can 'paint' it on anything and it acts like solar cells.... like on a sweater...or on a CAR.
Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and other societal interests subordinate to the interests of the state. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, religious attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, and opposition to political and economic liberalism.

Is that the Bridge to no where?
That's turned out to be Clinton's Bridge To The 21st Century. It was a corporate bridge that led to Bushville.

Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats.
I've heard it said many times that if you think you have a mental problem, you probably don't. It's those who do who are unaware of it. That explains why Republicans think they're sane when they aren't.
We criticize the Dems for cringing at Repug name calling and ridicule, but there are remnants of that affliction right here.
Seems that inability to deal with the media "Dean Scream", gives some the same cringing hesitancy when thinking of another national run by Dean.
The same could be said for the fact that Kucinich doesn't "look" just right. Sombody would question my judgement if I admitted I supported him for Pres., maybe even ridicule me.
Dennis' speech today was great. He said everything we could want and did it well. He said he went to prayer meeting this morning, because he knew someone would say when he was through speaking, that he didn't have a prayer.
We pride ourselves on being able to think around here, but Pavlovian tendencies stick hard and we don't even notice them.
This just breaks my heart.
""This is Lee Eisenberg," he said, adding that he was speaking from New Hampshire.
Eisenberg said he was a mental health patient who had been trying to get help. He'd been unsuccessful, he said, because he didn't have the "thousands of dollars" he was told he'd need.
He tried several mental health facilities, he said, "even called the Department of Health and Human Services." But no one could help him, he said.
Eisenberg was well-spoken, articulate and impassioned about his cause. But as the call continued, he became more agitated.
"I need to speak to Hillary Clinton," he said. "Something's got to change. Ordinary people need help" with their insurance.
Later, he asked, "Can you get me Hillary Clinton?" And finally, he said again he wanted to speak with Clinton.
"I don't want to talk to CNN anymore," he said before hanging up the phone. Police said that no one from the Clinton campaign was involved in the negotiations."
