Which candidate will fund the most CONTRACEPTION???
Which presidential candidate has signed or proposed the budget containing the highest percentage of contraception funding? Which candidate for every other office? especially MUNICIPAL offices? I believe that for the US presidency, the answer is probably Guliani, which would also be my favorite kind of contraception funding, the MUNICIPAL kind. However, Guliani may have signed such budgets more as a result of his NYC context and NYC precedents established before his tenancy as mayor than out of any unshakable personal conviction which would transfer to his federal budget proposals. So my question remains.
As for Romney's flip flopping, when a candidate flipflops, one can never know his true position for sure, but I believe that as a Mormon with a big family, he is telling the truth now and was therefore lying as Governor of MA. I Further believe that MA voters essentially knew this, but realized that with a hugely Democratic legislature, Romney would be unable to threaten MA abortion funding even from the governor's office.

Overpopulation or Childfree Town Project
http://www.city-data.com/forum/politics-othercontroversies/68190-political-towns-extreme-places-political-relocation.html
I am writing because I am interested in overpopulation activists in small towns. I am hoping that if overpopulation activists concentrate forces like the Libertarians of the Free Town Project, http://freetownproject.com/ we can build a majority that can replace public school, playground, ballfield, and childcare funding with contraception and abortion funding and end up saving a great deal of money especially since Social Security and Medicare funding are mostly federal and can be imported.
Housing unit size could also be limited to crowd large families but regular zoning is a big problem because it makes it expensive for overpopulation activists to move in and build a majority.
Anyway, what do you think? Can such a majority be built in your hometown. NYC is the only municipality I know of that funds abortions and it is too overcrowded and thus difficult and expensive to move to or build a majority in. And NYC's abortion funding is still only a tiny fraction of their education funding.

Three groups likely to be allied in this municipal cause are gays, especially conservative gays like Log Cabin Republicans, retirees, who would be hypocrites because they usually have grown children and grandchildren but these grandchildren often live in different towns and would be unaffected by local education cuts, and Libertarians who are ideologically committed to small government.

Recruiting Buncombe Commission candidates (Asheville NC)
Linked to groups: Asheville Democracy for America
Now that the municipal races are over, it is finally time to start recruiting candidates for 2008 (the presidency being quite premature) notably those for Buncombe (Asheville NC) County Commission.
The field of 15 Asheville City Council candidates was noticable for the absence of a real affordable housing advocate especially in such a large group and especially when the main "progressive" candidate was notably weak on housing shortage issues.
I mentioned at last nights "drinking liberally" gathering (also interesting since I just suggested Buncombe go dry for the homeless) That I was not impressed with anyone in the field of 15, but that is only partly true. I am only moderately dissapointed with Brownie Newman, I felt Dee Williams was pretty solid and that Chris Chiaromonte and Lindsey Simmerly had potential to learn in office. Simmerly's biggest problem was her tendency to defer to Lite.
But back on topic, we need to recruit a solid affordable housing activist to run for County commission as the only way to adequately counter the anti-zoning right, and qualified individuals include the heads of Mountain Housing Opportunities, Affordable Housing Coalition and Homeward Bound/AHOPE, Scott Dedman, Phillipe ? and Walter ? respectively.
Also, although I usually oppose environmental "experts" as diverting environmental attention and funding away from overpopulation, contraception and abortion, the CTS plant toxic waste brownfield and associated government and corporate neglect is bad enough to deserve attention even when compared to environmental contraception. So recruiting a County commission canditate who really knows about brownfields and brownfield law might also be worthwhile.
PS pardon me while I try to figure out how to post this locally only so that I don't get a million off topic federal replies from federally fixated DFA activists.

Take over the district Dem convention!
Linked to groups: progessive mountain peoples network
Reviewing the Democratic Plan of Organization, it is not clear to methat we will be electing a replacement district chair for Bruce Peterson
at the 11th distinct convention. Does anyone know if a delegate can move
to suspend the rules to elect a new district chair at an even year
district convention? the P of O is not clear on this, is Robert's Rules?
However, we will be electing members of the Council of Review, to which
I appealed the suppression of 11 resolutions at the Buncombe convention,
and State Convention Committee on Credentials and Appeals. We need
progressive candidates from this list for those offices. Again, I must
run myself if I hear of no other progressive candidates before the day of
the convention. Unless I hear otherwise, I will run for both unless I
win the first office elected.
-Alan Ditmore, with 21,318 votes in Buncombe County elections.
how about:
"move to suspend the rules to elect a new 11th district chair now" or
"Move to suspend the rules to consider the 11 resolutions blocked by the
Buncombe Resolutions Commettee now"
"Move to eliminate voice votes in favor of hand votes with nays first"
these motions could be made from the floor as soon as the meeting is
called to order
Also we must vote against any meeting rules with nays first because many
on the floor are likely to vote Aye to the rules expecting consensus
which does not exist.
-Alan Ditmore
--------------------------------------------
Michael Morgan is now perfectly positioned to run for and win the 11th
district Democratic Party chairmanship vacated by Bruce Peterson. He has
the energy, talent, name and issue recognition from his congressional
race. Michael, if you are not satisfied with the party establishment
support for independent minded progressive candidates here is your
opportunity to BECOME THE PARTY ESTABLISHMENT AND CONTROL THAT SUPPORT!!!
Maybe this was your destiny all along. Let's all prepare for the Dem
convention on the 20th starting at today's (Wednesday's) Asheville DFA
meeting, 7pm, West Asheville Library, and the PDBC meeting, Thursday, May
11, at Montford Community Center, 7pm. HERE IS A RACE WE CAN WIN!!!
Or if Michael refuses, we could run other former candidates like Krishna
Murphy or James Latimore. LET'S GO FOR IT!! Don't make me run by doing
nothing!!!
