Wendy and I saw what I felt was a truely outstanding film last night, "Good Night and Good Luck". It deals with 1950's TV journalist Edward R. Murrow and how he took on Joe McCarthy and his "Red scare" tactics. It is a well acted, well directed, and, to me, a very emotionally compelling flick. Especially with its many parallels to today's political scene and how mainstream journalism deals with it. Dan

By Wendy Patterson on Nov 11, 2005 9:39 PM ESTFINALLY I am seeing the "mainstream" journalists telling it like it is...the facts that Howard Dean spoke about during his Presidential campaign. You know the list of fake reasons we were told were the reasons to invade Iraq.
What took them so long? Does there have to be some critical mass of public outcry to make them believe they have an audience for their articles? Instead of "reporters" exposing a story and telling the truth as they see it, it seems that the grassroots are the people who took that on this time around. Blogs, progressive sites and online communities and publications took the lead, then the media who need to make a "marketable" piece of work seemed freed up to go ahead and get on board with naming the lies and the liars.
Edward R. Morrow was portrayed in the movie as being the courageous soul who spoke out to the public and successfully countered the forces that favored the corporate sponsors and the network executives. That takes courage.
My voice. Your voice. Your friend's voice. My friend's voice. Theirs. All add up to make an outcry of truth. Let's hear it. Let's exercise our "Free Speech."
