Important Work in North Carolina
Last week DFA endorsed the campaigns of Roy Carter and Larry Kissel who are running for the US House in the North Carolina 5th and 8th districts, respectively. We also spent a few days last week in North Carolina doing some rallying and canvassing for Roy Carter.
There are a few things you should know about these campaigns:
First, Roy and Larry are great progressive candidates who are doing a great job incorporating progressive values and the concerns of the voters in their districts in the same message. Whether it’s getting out of Iraq, health care for everyone, or getting rid of No Child Left Behind, Roy and Larry get the big picture: challenges for voters in their districts and the entire country.
Second, Roy and Larry can win. This has never been a DFA prerequisite, but you should know that both campaigns have highly competent staffs, committed volunteers, and are actively engaging voters in both the rural and urban areas of their districts. This is no small accomplishment given that two Presidential candidates are now campaigning all over North Carolina and sweeping up activists, supporters, and volunteers everywhere.
This brings us to the third point. The voters in North Carolina are absolutely stoked. You may hear beltway pundits wring their hands about the Presidential primary going on too long, but don’t tell that to the voters and taxpayers of North Carolina or Indiana. They are registering in droves. The folks we met canvassing are more than just concerned about the direction of our country. They understand that the future of our country is in all of OUR hands. Roy and Larry, both teachers, are using their skills to communicate the real choices and responsibilities that are facing the voters.
North Carolina hasn’t seen this kind of excitement for a while. It’s good for the state and it’s good for the entire country. We thank Roy and Larry for the courage they’ve shown to stand up to the reactionary right wing agenda, and get all of us focused on making this country better. I hope you will help them in any way you can. You can find out more about these campaigns by going to their Democracy for America campaign pages:
Thanks for all you are doing to take our country back!

mccain and the rnc are crying that the ned dnc ad is not fair.
it was taken out of context and they are using "sound bites" let's see if the cabal networks will run this.
Linda:
Unfortunately, you can bet that the CM will support the rethugs and McCain.
Just look at ownership (enabled by the Clinton Administration)
http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_dave_lin_080428_invasion_of_the_pump.htm
The bizarre behavior of Bill Clinton during this campaign season, which has seen this once smooth-talking and politically uber-sophisticated campaigner repeatedly stick a foot in his mouth and undermine his wife's struggling campaign, raises the issue of whether he is suffering from postperfusion syndrome-a now recognized cognitive impairment common in patients who have undergone heart bypass surgery.
Referred to in hospital jargon as "pumphead syndrome," the condition, thought to be caused by debris and bubbles that are created and released into the bloodstream by artificial pumps used to circulate blood while hearts are being operated on-material that can block blood flow in smaller vessels in the brain, causing neurological damage--this recognized condition has been demonstrated in some studies to lead to significant cognitive impairment that can show up in as many as 42 percent of heart surgery patients even as long as five years after surgery.
Clinton underwent quadruple bypass surgery on Sept. 6, 2006, and accordiing to his doctors, instead of keeping his heart going during the procedure, they chose the method that involved shutting down his heart temporarily, and putting him temporarily on a heart pump--the method that can cause posperfusion syndrome.
At least in Clinton's case, if he is a "pumphead," the only damage he can do is to his wife's campaign. He is no longer president or commander in chief. (Well, let me take that back. If she were elected, he could create havoc as First Spouse and chief pillow talker, but let's not even go there!)

It's a paradox: the political center has clearly shifted; what used to be considered "left wing" positions have now become part of the mainstream, and the views of the Right are now at odds with the majority of the American public -- and with reality.
Yet, despite this seismic shift -- grossly underreported by the media -- the Right remains as powerful as ever when it comes to setting the national agenda and dominating the national debate.
Think about it: on Iraq and the exercise of American power, on economic fairness, on corporate responsibility, on the environment and climate change, on the universal right to healthcare, the progressive policies and positions long championed by the left have moved from union halls and MoveOn emails to the sidewalks, backyards, and kitchen tables of Main Street, USA.
Nevertheless, the traditional media -- and most politicians -- continue to insist on looking at every issue through a right vs left frame, then assuming the answer is found by splitting the difference.
Hello all!
hi, subway. hope you and your loved ones are doing well.
Glad to see you post Subway (I hope more BFAers come back, now that there is a BFA 4.0).
John Edwards --
-- where is he ?
-- the NC dem primary is one week away, why is he so mum ?
(NC dem governor Mike Easley will be endorsing Hillary tomorrow; come on John, do you intend to balance that with an endorse of Barack ?)
North Carolina Governor Mike easley has endorsed................Hillary Clinton. In a normal world I would say her chances of getting the nomination are poor, but after Deans demise in 2004 nothing would surprise me today................
Edwards thinks his endorsement is worth a cabinet post, but he's only been offered an ambassadorship.
rd,
Obama has more than 43 mayors and 29 state legislators in NC endorsing him. How many more does he really need.
Edwards, IMHO, is irrelevant except for his remaining few delegates. As self-centered and greedy (as I see him) as he is, I expect he may want to endorse himself and claim his prize in Denver:)
I have thought Clinton was running only to damage Obama so she could run again in 2012. Now the Obama bus appears to be a runaway disaster and Clinton is going to end up convincing the insiders and will win the nomination. Neither can get the total delegate count they need without the super delegates and they are all waiting to see how bad this gets before they decide/
Karen -
Fox was never on the Obama bus (just like Michael never was) so, frankly, in the words of Rhett Butler, to them I say "frankly, I don't give an damn" about their predictions.
Apparently the strike-through didn't work... lets try it again.
"Now the Obama Clinton bus appears to be a runaway disaster"
In case strike-through didn't work again...
"Now the Clinton bus appears to be a runaway disaster"
what Hillary's koolaid tastes like.
than anyone else's kool-aid, be it Barack's, or Howard's or McCain's for that matter:
Sickie-sweet and made of nothing real or substantive. Kool-aid's bad....no matter who's it is.
A Gunner eh? I dont care for your ppsts much, but I think you have something about BO......I felt uneasy about him a month or so ago, and especially after the Wright pastor thing, and even more so after listening to Reverend Wright last night on CNN................I got a sense of "in your face" from him to segments of American society(justified to a point) but I do think this will only polarize the camapigns and nation more so...................I link this to the key electoral states of Ohio, PA, NY and some Southern states as well................
It will boil down to voters on the fence for all 3 right now will get cold feet in Novemeber and play ot safe with Mccain(not very safe IMO).................
LIVERPOOL!!!!!!!!!!
i see someone's been playing with the tool bar. LoL They've taken away the styles pulldown. Good. Too many choices are not got. KISS
I've noticed that too! New blog seems to be working better now... shhhhhhhh, don't tell it I said so.
Since my trademark picture came back.........theres a clock too.....theres hope for mankind now..........
Just in time for the 2008 election, BFA gets reborn. Nice platform. You shoulda thought twice about providing such tools to the Court Jester.
I haven't been around for a while in any meaningful sense because the damage that was allowed here. But if this space is willing to make this kind of investment and make a fresh start, I'm all for it.
I've kinda ditched the shameless self promotion angle for something I think is really important. I think it's vital to make Howard Dean Barack's choice for his running mate. This will be my focus. I don't see me as having a musical contribution this time around.
When I was a kid, we lost John and Bobby Kennedy, Martin and Malcom, and If Barack Obama is going to be the first black President, I want someone at his back who the right wing fears more than Obama's agenda. I'll be talking about this moar, prooly to the point of obsession.
I have lived here over 40 years and nothing like this.
Entire neighborhoods gone.
No way to know how many injured and dead.
We are alright but friends in Suffolk have had their houses destroyed.
That "got" should have been good.
Anyway, I got the email from the DNC with the anti-McCain ad and would really prefer they wouldn't make fun of his "hundred years." After all, that was the original plan--that we would claim territory for our Air Force from which the U.S. could control the region for a very long time. It was a bad idea but a lot of people signed off on it, including Kerry and Edwards and all those people who voted to approve Pentagon planning funds year after year. Even now their planning horizon is 2020, at least.
Ignoring the bad four weeks Obama has had does not make it go away. Remember those heady days in february, 8 wins in a row. 55% of Penn voters voted against the presumptive nominee of your own party. This is not a fact that escapes the watch of the super delegates. "WASHINGTON - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Monday that either Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama must drop out of the Democratic presidential race after the June primaries in order to unify the party by the convention and win the election in November.
But Dean didn't say which candidate should drop out, only that it should happen after primary voters have been to the polls.
"We want the voters to have their say. That's over on June 3," Dean said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Only McCain can be enjoying this. A house divided.
What four bad weeks?
No matter how you spin it, Barack has more delegates and leads the popular vote. He's way ahead in NC and has a small lead in Indiana.
Hillary is toast!!
no matter how often the media repeat that the candidates have to do this or that or whatever, the fact still remains that it's voters and delegates who are the actors in an election. From what we can tell, the voters are having a terrific time in north carolina and indiana. Oh, and Rev Wright had a terrific time at the Press Club today. LOL
Are you referring solely to the PA vote? She was always projected to win that state.
she got 10 delegates and that is it. wowzer.
Specifically, which powers of the Presidency that the Bush administration has acquired for itself would you roll back and give up?
http://bluehampshire.com/frontPage.do
There are 30 delegates going to the Democratic convention from the Granite State (and four alternates). Here's the breakdown:
Clinton: 12 (9 + 2 supers + 1 add-on)
Edwards: 4
Obama: 12 (9 + 3 supers)
Unpledged supers: 2 (John Lynch and Ray Buckley)
Clinton's supers are Gaetan DiGangi, Anita Freedman, and Kathy Sullivan's the add-on, while Obama has Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes, and Martha Fuller-Clark.
The inability to write anything in the comment box seems to be related to "Format" showing in the pull-down, rather than "paragraph."
Anyway, I just wanted to make the point that if you want a really stripped down blog,
get yourself the opera browser with the traditional skin and then set it to "cached images"
What you'll see then is a pale blue strip that has the subject, poster ID, date and rating
boxes.
