Thank You, Pat Hanson

Written by: Jim Dean on Dec 17, 2007 10:52 AM EST

Since 2002, Democracy for America has been fortunate to have a great deal of help and learn a lot from the many good people who have come into this office to volunteer.  Whether it has been Howard’s campaign for President or DFA, much of our success has happened because of the time, energy, and new ideas that so many people have brought into the office by volunteering their valuable time.

One of our volunteers, Pat Hanson, has been around since the beginning of Howard’s campaign.  She has been at DFA almost every day during this period lending her considerable knowledge and experience to our efforts to bring new leadership into our political culture.

That is a long time by our standards and the standards of any political campaign or organization; but Pat is a very committed person and we are much better for the time she has spent with us.  Pat has helped us do a better job communicating and being more responsive to the comments and suggestions that you give us. She has been invaluable to keeping DFA true to its grassroots values.

Pat is leaving DFA to work on a number of other projects.  We are all very grateful for what she has given DFA, and hope you will join us in wishing her well.

Pat you are absolutely awesome!  We wish you the best that life has to offer and look forward to staying in touch.

Jim Dean

ON DEADLINE: Clinton '92 vs. Obama '08

By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Bill Clinton says Sen. Barack Obama is a callow, highly ambitious political prodigy who is asking voters to "roll the dice" and elect him president.

He should know — that's a fair description of Clinton when he sought the presidency in 1992.

The fact that the former president is stealing a page from the same Republican playbook used against him 15 years ago underscores the threat Obama poses to the candidacy of Clinton's wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Bush backs nuclear fuel supply to Iran

US President George W. Bush said on Monday he supported Russian shipments of nuclear fuel to Iran for civilian power, saying they proved that Tehran has no need to enrich uranium.

"If the Russians are willing to do that, which I support, then the Iranians do not need to learn how to enrich. If the Iranians accept that uranium for a civilian nuclear power plant, then there's no need for them to learn how to enrich," Bush said
..........
--------------------

Well, there are no limits exist for the real "decider(s)"..., just watch this logic, these values, these principles (and DO NOT FORGET our lovely "professional progressives" propagate THE SAME!).

He just forgot for a second that process of learning is not the "privilege" of particular human beings but the NEED of EVERY HUMAN!

Poor boy..., his Co's political end is very close.

Living in the past.

Politician's records are indeed what they've done in the past. And they're a truer indication of what they'll do in the future than what they say in the present.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Bill Clinton says Sen. Barack Obama is a callow, highly ambitious political prodigy who is asking voters to "roll the dice" and elect him president.

Sounds a lot like what Kerry et al were saying about Dean at this time in 2003. Gullible Iowans fell for it then and may well again.

I heard last week that Hillary's people wanted Bill to crawl into the gutter and attack Obama, but that he was reluctant to do it. He should have stood his ground. Now he's just an attack dog for a bitch.

"Obama's going after Edwards.

The reason now that I raise this issue of the special interests is because everybody now in the campaign talks about how I am going to fight for you. Like Sen. Edwards, who is a good guy -- he's been talking a lot about, 'I am going to fight the lobbyists and the special interests in Washington.' Well the question you have to ask is: Were you fighting for 'em when you were in the Senate. What did you do? "

Ron Wyden says that the support for this legislation is extremely flimsy.

A lot of Dems tried that with their Iraq votes bask in 2002. But as they say in baseball, it doesn't show up in the boxscore. In the end, they're either for or against right and wrong.

If DFA is truly for "Democracy" and there is anyone home at HQ, you would think we could have at lease a thread on the FISA bill, one of the most important bills of the year, begin discussed in the Senate today and perhaps the rest of the week.

I misread the formatting of your post and didn't realize the quote was from Obama himself.

It makes no sense for him to criticize Edwards. He should let others correctly point out that Edwards' record doesn't match his rhetoric.

Each situation is unique and presents a new opportunity to review and reflect upon what is going on at the moment. And as we've seen with the FISA vote, even experienced congress critters don't get it right.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House must release its visitor logs and cannot hide behind a shield of privilege, a federal judge ruled Monday. The Bush administration has resisted public disclosure while it fights a lawsuit over alleged political influence by conservative Christian leaders.

The Bush administration has been fighting the release of White House visitor logs.

U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth concluded the information is part of the public record and is subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act as "agency records."

"Because the Secret Service creates, uses and relies on, and stores visitor records, they are under its control," said Lamberth.

The White House claimed exclusive control of the documents, subject to the complete discretion of the president over their release.

sitka,

Posting this lie on  DailyKos is one thing but spreading it around to other liberal/progressive blogs giving it wings is IMO much worse.

It should have never been posted here in the first place. We should let it die right here and now.

5.  The fact is that the Russian provider of nuclear fuel is a subsidiary of the American company, USEC.  So, of course, Bush is supportive.  The whole purpose of this charade was to secure the nuclear fuel cartel.

And, to be realistic, there's no reason for Iran to process it's own nuclear fuel.

There's a net energy loss.  it takes more energy to process the fuel than it

will produce. The only reason the U.S. is making a profit is because it's

reprocessing uranium that was originally in weapons.

It may not be a lie but since when is asking a question about someone's Senate record "going after someone?"

When asked at a debate it's a question.

When asked by any candidate it's "going after someone?" And who stated that? I didn't see it as a quote from anyone at Kos but it started with quotation marks in post 8 - maybe that was a simple typo?

From MoveOn:

Progressive Senators Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold are pledging to block any legislation that includes "telecom immunity." 2 And presidential candidates Joe Biden and Barack Obama have said they'll support a filibuster.

As requested, I called Bill Nelson's office to oppose any legislation offering immunity to phone companies. His staff told me Nelson will be voting with Chris Dodd. About time Nelson got something right.

NBC: 'Frenzied enthusiasm' for Edwards in Iowa
by MeanBoneII [Subscribe]
Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 12:57:55 PM PST

This might explain why Obama has started attacking Edwards by name over the past few days (from NBC/National Journal):

The two candidates both spoke at Mason City on Saturday night, and experienced a reversal in roles, with Edwards packing a huge hall that was so crowded that the press left their risers and went into the balcony to shoot the event. Obama also drew a sizeable number of people, around 450, but in a comparison of press reports by NBC reporters, it lacked the frenzied enthusiasm that greeted Edwards.

If I was Obama's advisor I would have counseled him to keep on the high road and let others point out Edwards' achilles heel of record vs. rhetoric.

You never know which way feckless Iowans will fall. They may think the smears against him are valid and his validity, smears.

I seem to remember seeing a Dean appearance  where he rode in on the campaign bus at the very end of the Iowa campaign. People were going nuts.

Unfortunately, it turned out a lot of those people were campaign workers who were already convinced, and newbies who came to check out Dean for the first time were being turned away.

But memeory can be deceiving.

Just last night we saw the video trip into this forest and the giant rat. The birds there are extraordinary, their colors and mating dances, so tame since they have not seen humans before.

I hope this forest stays just what it is -- a wildlife refuge requiring government permission to enter. The only way in is with a helicopter. It's nice to know such places still exist.

I heard Nader might be coming to Fresno. The local PBS station is airing a show about Nader's history. There is a Presidential Debate some local folks have put together.

----

Sunday, January 13,2007

1 - 4 PM
The Peace & Freedom Party will be holding a forum for their presidential candidates. Candidates who have stated they will be appearing as of today are Gloria La Riva, Brian Moore, Stewart Alexander and John Crockford of Clovis. Other presidential candidates who are running on the Peace & Freedom Party ticket and have not confirmed are Cynthia McKinney, Ralph Nader and Stanley Hetz. This event will be held at Fresno City College, Forum Hall 101. The event is being sponsored by the Sociology Department at Fresno City College and the Peace & Freedom Party of the San Joaquin Valley.

----

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS, Y'all

First off I like to thank our local PBS(KVPT- Channel 18)for scheduling the showing of the documentary on Ralph Nader, " An Unreasonable Man." beginning next Tuesday,December 18 at 10 pm and with repeat showings during thefollowing week. Although, I am little bothered at the times, 1 am and 4 am, Uhhhmmm. -Richard Gomez

FRESNO/VISALIA KVPT

12/18- 10 pm

12/19- 1 am & 4 am

12/23- 4 am

This documentary is an oportunity introduce younger folks and remind older folks of the Nader's 50-year career fighting for justice and democracy.

Remember, there are millions of people who are angry at the corporate-sponsored bipartisan consensus for militarism abroad, austerity at home and lip service for the environment. Many are just waiting for someone to enlist them in a movement for real change. They have never been asked. Invite your friends over to watch, and help spread the word! Every person counts!

An announcement is anticipated from Ralph Nader by the end of the month on his plans for the 2008 presidential campaign. An important factor in his decision will be whether there is a demonstrable base of support and volunteers ready to hit the ground running if he announces.

If interested contact me, Richard Gomez at nate136_66[at]yahoo[dot]com or (559) 268-3828 and/or see below.

*** PROMO FOR MOVIE ****

PBS airs "An Unreasonable Man" on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007

Over the last 50 years, Ralph Nader has done more than anyone to change the way we view ourselves, government, and the giant corporations.

He has been responsible for more progressive legislation than any congressman, senator, or president. Yet he has been ferociously attacked not only by the corporate political establishment, but by many of those who most agree with him.

Has Nader abandoned the progressive cause, or have progressives betrayed their principles?

Hear Nader's harshest critics and strongest supporters argue over the impact of Ralph Nader.

Why did General Motors, the most powerful corporation in the world, send women to seduce Nader in a Safeway store? Who is Ralph Nader? What has Ralph done for our country? What makes Ralph run? What does the life of Ralph Nader tell us about this one man, about ourselves, about our times?

Find out the answers to these questions during the national broadcast premiere of:

"An Unreasonable Man" Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 10 PM on KVPT Channel 18, PBS's Independent Lens series
