One Democrat's Primary Eve
Linked to groups: Rockingham/Strafford DFA
I spent most of the day campaigning and/or rallying for John Edwards. However, I began at 8am hoping to harrass Willard Mitt Romney at Young's Restaurant in the college town of Durham (where I live.) Willard M. has scheduled several visits to Young's during the last year or so. He never showed up at any of them. He didn't show up this time either. I would be tempted to think that the Young's thing is a running joke of some sort, were it not for the fact that W. Mitt has no sense of humor. (Young's, by the way, is where I first met John Edwards, back in the summer of 2003. For months afterwards, whenever Edwards was mentioned on New England Cable News, the network would run a closeup shot of him at this typical coffee shop, taken by a camera just inches above my head, and hence from a point of view virtually identical to my subjective point of view.)
After messing around with my web site and clearing away unsold Second Life Christmas trees from my avi's land, I went over to Dover to the Edwards office where I got a "turf" of about 40 houses, just a few blocks from my house. It was a mild, cloudy day, which would have been good for canvassing were it not for the ice all over the place, especially on the steps to people's front doors. Luckily, I was in a neighborhood where people still use the doors to their houses (rather than entering through their garages.) However, there weren't many people to talk to. The first person was a friendly gentleman in his 70s who was chipping ice on his driveway: however, he was a Republican and the brother of the man on my list. The second person was an obnoxious person who was pissed off by all the phone calls and people knocking on my door. As she shut the door on me, I started to make some remark about the value of her vote and Kenya and Pakistan (where people die for their votes.) It got a little better with the third person on my list, an old friend and ally who is going with Obama, but who was pleased to see me canvassing. I finished the first turf at lunchtime, drove back to Dover and got a second one: my own block and a couple of neighboring ones (plus a third street 2 miles away included by mistake because someone mixed up "Magrath Way" with the next street in alphabetical order, which was "Marden Way.") I started by coding myself "JRE," i.e. a committed Edwards supporter.
Durham is a college town, and the neighborhoods I canvassed today were primarily handsome but generally unostentatious houses built between the 1920s and 1960s for faculty. In recent years, the faculty have been priced out of the town: many of the 30- and 40-somethings who bought the original owners are financial and high-tech executives. The executives, interestingly, are just as radical as the professors. My next door neighbor, for example, who is in the mutual funds business, is a Kucinich supporter. Durham is mostly Obama Country, especially amongst the professors: they like Edwards, but Obama is their guy. This is not shocking: aside from the fact that he is himself a professor, he has been endorsed by our Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (who lives in Rochester, but who grew up in Durham.)
In the evening, after eating lasagna and making a few pages of phone calls at the Dover Edwards office, I headed to the final rally of the campaign, at the Dover Elks Lodge. Some of my neighbors showed up, perhaps because I canvassed their houses. I ended up as part of the backdrop of the event, up on the same proscenium stage where I once saw the late Tommy Makem singing. Edwards jumped up on a thrust stage built in front of the proscenium, and even though he was dressed in a crisp blue suit, he reminded me of a welterweight boxer. For better or worse, he is the scrappiest candidate in the race, and a fighter is what we will need during the General Election and during the years which follow George W. Bush's long-awaited departure on Januaru 20, 2009 (378 days after the Primary.)
Howard is first and so is Jim!
NH have a great primary!!
Hey Rich :)
Good morning, So glad you stop by here once in awhile.
College Republican group in Michigan...YAF...will protest McCain at MSU. They even have a picture of one of them burning a McCain shirt. This is a group that hates most everyone.
An Obama Fable–It’s All About the Mood, Dude
by Ralph Nader
The Obamarama Campaign Express was roaring down a New Hampshire highway near Nashua when an aide spotted the sprawling No Holds Barred Sports Bar. “Let’s stop the bus,” she urged, “and do some random schmoozing.”
Obama and his entourage poured out of the bus and headed for the front door, over which hung a large sign: “HOME OF THE POLI-BEER: WHERE BOOZE, POLITICS AND SPORTS MIX IT UP!”
Inside the packed bar, the guys and gals were gathering for the Big Game to start. Before the game, however, there was an hour for political talk time. Their eyes widened in amazement when they saw Barack, bounding through the doorway with his secret service detail.
The bar had a big pit, with a huge crackling fireplace, where the patrons have their regular give and take. Obama was ready for some of that.
He started: “I stand for change. They said we set our sights too high in Iowa. They said now is not the time. I proved the cynics wrong in corn country and I’ll prove them wrong in the granite state. To show you I mean it, no speech, go at me. Our time for change has come.”
Guy number one-”Ok, Barack, you’re going for the power in the Big House, the big companies already have the power, how ya gonna make us little people powerful?”
Obama-”Stay tuned. One leap at a time. We are one people. Get me there first.”
Gal number one-”You say, CHANGE, well how are you going to cut the bloated military budget full of vast waste, fraud and abuse, when you’ve specifically said you’ll ‘expand and modernize the military?’ Why, it’s already half or more of the government’s operating budget, squeezing programs for children, health and all that. I’m an accountant and I know numbers.”
Obama-”Exactly. Our time for change has come. I’m going to change the old weapons with new weapons and the old soldiers with the new soldiers. That’s real change-at the grass roots.”
Guy number two-”You don’t seem to have any rough edges, Barack.”
Obama-”It’s all about the mood, dude.”
The crowd was getting agitated and the questions came faster and faster.
“Why are you for nuclear power with taxpayer guarantees?”
“Will you oppose Congress getting pay raises, pensions and health insurance until the American people get the same?”
“Do you favor repealing the anti-union nightmare-the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947?”
“How can you talk about change and take gobs of campaign money from the big corporate lawyers and bosses?”
Obama, smiling: “It’s ALL about the mood, dudes. All the rest are details you can look up on my website-obama_is_us.org. We are choosing hope over fear.”
Gal number two-”Ok, answer this one that probably isn’t on your website. When are you going to meet with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and campaign in the black ghettos-say Harlem or Watts?”
Obama-”Whoaa, give that tough lady a Poli-beer on me! We are one nation.”
Guy number three (with an Obama face mask)-”I’m the old Obama, remember me? I was for single-payer, full medicare for everyone. I was strongly for Palestinian rights and for replacing NAFTA and WTO, not for tweaking them. I was for taxing the super-rich and defending class actions. I was for capping credit-card and loan shark interest rates. What happened to me?”
Obama-”Well, didn’t I tell you that I stand for CHANGE?”
Gal number three-”You seem to be for everyone, but not everyone is for everyone. Some are against everyone. Tell me, are the big corporations, the greedy defense contractors, drug, oil and insurance companies, starting to quake in their boots at the thought that you are now the front-runner?”
Obama, lifting his chin-”Well, Ma’am, we haven’t ordered our seismometer yet.”
Oooohs and boos float around the pit. A few start drifting away.
Guy number four-”You’re one of those smart Haavard lawyers, Barack. You were a constitutional law teacher. You were against the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. So, why aren’t you putting two and two together-impeachment of the war criminals in the White House followed by conviction in the Senate?”
Obama-”You don’t understand (testily), impeachment talk is just more of the same old Washington politics. I stand for change. No need to point fingers. We are one people.”
Gal number four-”Hello, Barack. I’m Hermaphrodite and I luv your blended politics of harmony.”
Obama-”Great! Then how about a quick dance around the bar before we have to leave,” he said, humming to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic-”We are choosing unity over division, we’re sending a powerful message, that change is a coming to America, it is all about the mood, dude…”

Someone stuff Nadar w/a pillowcase, pls.
(along w/Billary & Big Dog).
Sick and tired of all of 'em.
Now that that's out of the way :-)
Is it over?
Nobody has ever won Iowa and New Hampshire and not gone on to get the nomination.
Woould Edwards finishing second knock Hillary out?
Would Edward finishing second do anything except extending his campaign a little longer?
Is there anything (or anyone) that can stop Obama at this point?
What will Hillary do next? Can she go negative? Is there a "Where's the beef/" she (or Edwards) can pull out which will resonate?
Have the recent poll number showing a roughly 10 point Obama lead made anything less than that a loss in the expectations game?
And what about the Elephants?
Heard on HEP the other day that NH state rep Marcia Moody, ardent Dean support (and crushie...LOL) was supporting Dodd, but is now supporting Obama.
Now there's an example of someone who heard Howard's call and sprang into action by running for office.
That's being the change you want to see - have a great primary Marcia!!
6 LOL mornin' mainefem - yeah he's good at telling stories.
The group Draft Gore New Hampshire has endorsed John Edwards.
Earlier this week the group announced [they] would be terminating their efforts.
"We came to the unanimous decision that John Edwards has the courage to bring about fundamental changes in the way decisions are made in Washington," said Farrell Seiler, state coordinator for Draft Gore New Hampshire.
From Hype to Fear
By Paul Krugman
The unemployment report on Friday was brutally bad. Unemployment rose in December, while job creation was minimal — and it’s highly likely, for technical reasons, that the job number will be revised down, showing an actual decline in employment.
It’s the latest piece of bad news about an economy in which the employment situation has actually been deteriorating for the past year. It’s no longer possible to hope that the effects of the housing slump will remain “contained,” as one of 2007’s buzzwords had it. The levees have been breached, and the repercussions of the housing crisis are spreading across the economy as a whole.
It’s not certain, even now, that we’ll have a formal recession, although given the news on Friday you have to say that the odds are that we will. But what is clear is that 2008 will be a troubled year for the U.S. economy — and that as a result, the overall economic record of the Bush years will have been dreary at best: two and a half years of slumping employment, three and a half years of good but not great growth, and two more years of renewed economic distress.
The November election will take place against that background of economic distress, which ought to be good news for candidates running on a platform of change.

Women Are Never Front-Runners
By GLORIA STEINEM
THE woman in question became a lawyer after some years as a community organizer, married a corporate lawyer and is the mother of two little girls, ages 9 and 6. Herself the daughter of a white American mother and a black African father — in this race-conscious country, she is considered black — she served as a state legislator for eight years, and became an inspirational voice for national unity.
Be honest: Do you think this is the biography of someone who could be elected to the United States Senate? After less than one term there, do you believe she could be a viable candidate to head the most powerful nation on earth?
If you answered no to either question, you’re not alone. Gender is probably the most restricting force in American life, whether the question is who must be in the kitchen or who could be in the White House. This country is way down the list of countries electing women and, according to one study, it polarizes gender roles more than the average democracy.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/opinio...
"We came to the unanimous decision that John Edwards has the courage to bring about fundamental changes in the way decisions are made in Washington,"
Except, of course, when he was an actual senator who could have acted with courage.
But their endorsement seems a bit late. Those who don't check their email tomorrow today won't know how to vote.
And I'd be curious to know how many people made the "unanimous decision."
Finally, I guess it's the fitting end to an effort that couldn't convince the guy they really like to run, so now supports another who might get second place if he's lucky.

I wouldnt lose any sleep over an Obama nomination.................he will lose the general to Mccain, because Mccain will have the military behind him, the religious right and the way the electoral map is laid out, thats all he will need.............Obamas preaching about change and all that jazz will go up in flames as the slim majority will chicken out for wise/strong and experienced leader in Mccain...................little subtleties like Mccain the brave fighter pilot getting shot down, a POW............Obama, doing drugs and no military service, plus he has already stated he would meet with "controversial" leaders(Rove and the Repubs are licking their chops)....................that, in the eyes of many will be taken as a sign of weakness...................
Lets hope Im wrong..............but this is going to very easy to predict Im afraid................
There is a developing story on Raw Story that a Democratic senator is being accused of bribery...
Pay no attention to the polls. They were all wrong in Iowa.
Only in that they undervalued the margin of Obama's win. I'll guess that they're "wrong" again and he'll push, make, or break 50% this time. The stampede is on.
Mike - I surely don't agree that Obama will lose to McCain if indeed both are their parties nominees. Just place them side by side. The visual alone is enough to sway voters - future vs. past.
he will lose the general to Mccain, because Mccain will have the military behind him, the religious right and the way the electoral map is laid out, thats all he will need........
I don't buy that. You overestimate every one of those factors.
But you left out the most important factor -- GOP cheating.
After one minute -- the bribery story is gone. Weird.
Just learned something new. NH can vote for a vice President. There are several candidates and you can write one in. The spouse wrote in Bill Clinton for VP. LOL
Mary and sitka.................under nromal circumstances I would agree with you both, in fact I would be happy to be proven wrong, trust me. I base my theory though going back to 2000 and 2004.............regardles of the cheating accusation or not, technically in a normal world Bush should not have even come close to beating Gore, and Bush should not have defeated Kerry.......the country shpuld have grown up by 2004 at least to not let Bush stay in another 4 years................
Now, there is a slim chance I could be wrong, because in my model of 1992 I forecasted Bush to beat Clinton based on the same sort of data............however, the random element shave changed drastically with the insertion of so many forces in the ME.........IF the country is ready for such a drastich change in leadership then fine...............it will be as unprecedented as JFK defeating Nixon in 1960..............
For now though, Obama has really not been scrutinized by our media............in a general eelction, whether we like it or not Im afraid that certain prejudices will surface or be well contained............
In closing, IF Americans are tired of perpetual war and wnat a diferant direction then great..ots long overdue..............but I cant help beleive that there are foreign governement that want us to stay put, ad a military industrial complex that has no intention of being reduced...............
And thats the way I see it being played out...............
Mike - Well, all Obama has to do is choose a Webb (military creds) or Schweitzer (Governor - exec experience). McCain is 71 years old now. Aint gonna fly. The other thing about Webb -- there is a Democratic governor in VA who (I believe) can appoint a Dem in VA to his Senatorial seat.
Now, there is a slim chance I could be wrong, because in my model of 1992 I forecasted Bush to beat Clinton based on the same sort of data............
I'll buy that. But would say the chance is 50/50.
I would expect Obama to pick a DLCer for VP just to placate them.

Greta post and this will be the random element in the equation........the VP..........Clinton, if i recall prior to the 92 election got endorsements from several high ranking military officilas, I cannpt recall the names..........thats the way i would go...........
Countering a Huckabee VPslot will be tough also, as many, but not all of the relgious right will stay put with a Republican...........again, what bothers me is the celebrated electoral map.......I dont see alot of change in the genera election..........thats too clsoe for me............
Remember......Obama has not really face the scruntiny of the media................
11. Let me see if I can make this simple. The problem with religion having been co-opted by politicians isn't that they're injecting ideology into government, but that their intent is pure and simple to fleece the public treasury from behind the veil of faith. The faith-based initiative is a con. Imagine people being entranced by a vision of Jesus on the mount while their houses, their live-stock and all their earthly belongings are carted off.
It's not co-incidental that the path, wherever they've trod, is littered by business failure. These people have to resort to chicanery or force, because they don't know how to produce, barter or trade. If chicanery doesn't work, they have to resort to the use of force because they know nothing else.
The economy is like a house of cards. When you take enough out, it will collapse.
PREDICTIONS
Democrats
- · Obama Blowout + 12%
- · Clinton fading…..but will stay on waiting for a mistake
- · Edwards is irreverent
Republicans
- · Romney rallies (a +- 3%) and is the new comeback kid
- · McCain goes on but peaked to early in New Hampshire …money troubles
- · Paul does better than expected
- · Fred is dead
- · Huckabee cannot move beyond his base
- · The party eventually rallies around Romney

Better than that........$10 says Im right........in fact, because I wont be donating any of my money to candidates ever again.............Ill go as high as $17.50..............from that scene of Its A Wonderful Life.
Remember......Obama has not really face the scruntiny of the media................
Not sure what you mean. He's been a front runner from day one and has surely been researched thoroughly by the media and his opposition. If they had anything on him we would have already heard about it.

LOL I wouldn't either.

I've always thought betting is a rather foolish way to prove your point since it has to wait for events to unfold anyway.
And you've already admitted you were wrong before and could be again.

Couldn't agree more. It is a vehicle for their means only. And too many people that through these years, weak minded, just can't grasp that.
...One sister, hooked up with some...that have shown her it is a means. I personally couldn't stand it. Chumming up for her own benefit...spouting words...I had a cousin that said... in an email to her "what ..are you born again or something"...she responded. "yes and no". I don't think we were supposed to receive that. It was on a "concert" for some she was putting together.
I just had another cousin that asked an opinion about some photos for business...and he declared "oh I know, they're be the first to screw you if you don't watch out...too many business exchanges to have learned".
...it is that much worse by our politicians, when they are creating these laws and using our dollars.
I miss Gilda Radner. It was so sad her health problem and outcome and for Gene Wilder. I'm happy he has found another love, but it was such a huge loss for so many. And Madeline Khan. The same disease got them both.
UN Believable.
It's Landrieu --

It's Landrieu --
I am SO not surprised. Corruption is the first quality the voters of Louisiana look for in their politicians.
Dollar Bill Jefferson got re-elected and it wouldn't surpise me if she is too.

Or implacably for someone who has voted to continue it perhaps? This is one area Obama will get nailed on.............when the time is right. Havent you learned anything about how the repubs work? And the media the last 8 years?
And Bloody Mary has gone so far to the right since 2002 that the GOP may even back her too.
Or implacably for someone who has voted to continue it perhaps?
Voting to invade was worse. But Obama's votes for funding is one reason I don't support him either.
This is one area Obama will get nailed on.............when the time is right. Havent you learned anything about how the repubs work? And the media the last 8 years?
Apprently you haven't learned anything. The corporate media and Repubs support funding the Iraq disaster. They can't attack Obama for being with them on it.
The media had been pushing at us 2 chosen front runner for the Dem's. They gave the most highest favorable coverage to Obama. No one has challenged him, except the extreme righties, FOX/Limpba... Then they made the decision to take out Hillary and started their fake news on her. Many of the grassroots enjoyed that, because of the dislike for her. The media laughed when the polls started coming out, so, "you mean, when voters heard she.... her numbers started to drop".
Then they joked, "the media loves to build them up, then tear them down". It will be interesting to see how this ends up.
Then they made the decision to take out Hillary and started their fake news on her.
I would point out that Hillary has a vast media machine of own -- many journalists and op-ed writers are Clintonians who have built her up and spread the canard of inevitability.
And I would also ask, "What 'fake news on her'?"
Apprently you haven't learned anything. The corporate media and Repubs support funding the Iraq disaster. They can't attack Obama for being with them on it.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Of course they cant..........but disgruntled Democrats and Independents will call him on that en force sooner or later.............again, you havent been watching the way the game is played.........WHEN the Repubs call him on it at the assigned time, he will have to explain it.....its that simple really...............how can you be against something when you have continued to vote for funding it...............
Your are correct that the numbskulls that put us there in the forst place are just that.......but it takes an even bigger numbskull to keep perpetuating the damn thing...................its like a chess game, which I am learning on line................
Landrieu is one of the "usuals" in the DLC Dixiecrat gang. Take Breaux down, too. Can't stand either of 'em.
Hope Edwards takes 2nd today, amidst the Obama blowout--not many of the candidates will have two nickels to rub together.
Wasted millions on freakin' ad buys and "consultants."
Billary's big donors are vanishing.

Seriously want to witness a fatal blow/death knell to Big Dog's triangulated DLC [not]"winning strategy."

You're all over the place on this. Let me point out that few ordinary Democrats hold voting to "fund the troops," (as it's styled) against DCDems -- only "crazies" like us do. You're inventing a non-issue.
Take Breaux down, too.
He quit years ago and was replaced by a Repo. No one noticed the change.
Sitka, where they make something out of nothing. And make news out of what someone from another campaign reports. And where they attack her on "what some say"...the media games.
and Sitka, lets remember...she can have her people on her campaign, but they are not at the networks, reporters or making the decisions for them...as you see.
Breaux and Lott (maybe I'll teach and spend some time with my family) have joined forces as lobbyists. Go figure.
From, Reed, Frost, and Marshall can slut around & leech $$ from somewhere else.
There are still many DCDems left for them to solicit corporate bibes for. And I'm sure they'll make a compelling effort to coopt Obama if they haven't already.
and Sitka, lets remember...she can have her people on her campaign, but they are not at the networks, reporters or making the decisions for them...as you see
I just don't Rupert Murdock gave her money just so he could tear her down. But you never know how such people operate.
Just curious.... are you now trying to help Hillary in order to slow Obama so he doesn't run away from Edwards? ;-)
While scripted by both Parties’ duopoly circus called "Presidential election" continues..., while insurgent Edwards about to get eliminated (as non-scripted entity..., lol), more and more people are listening up to the Ron Paul's wisdom and truth.

Dark Horse Candidate Ron Paul Skips New Hampshire for Leno's Couch
By Z. BYRON WOLF
Jan. 8, 2008—
Either Jay Leno is having trouble filling time without his writers or he really likes Ron Paul. Or both.
............
Leno told Paul it was unfair, since Paul raised more money for the primary than any other candidate in the last fundraising quarter, not only that Fox would exclude him from the debate, but also that other networks, like CNN and MSNBC would not give more coverage to Fox's decision.
"It must be they didn't want to hear the message. Maybe they're intimidated. Maybe they're frightened. Maybe they don't want to hear the truth," Paul said.
...............
Some of the biggest applause for Paul came from a dig on former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
"You know, when we had a little confrontation early on in the debates with Mayor Giuliani when he was confused about what causes terrorism I sent him some books. And I said, 'Please read these books.' But so far it doesn't sound like he's read his books. He hasn't done his homework."
...............
Leno also asked Paul about the war among the Presidential candidates for the mantle of who represents more "change."
"I think the American people want change," said Paul, who by opposing most federal programs is arguably the candidate of most change. "So everybody gets up and says, 'I'm for change. I'm for change.' But the whole thing is, is what kind of change?
You know, right now whether you like Republicans or Democrats, does foreign policy change? No.
Does monetary policy change, and are they going to even talk about it? Does fiscal policy change? No.
We elect the conservative Republicans, and they make the deficit worse than the rest. Yeah, the American people are tired of that. They want real change. And to me, that means the only significant change we ought to have is get enough people in Washington that read the Constitution, obey the Constitution, do only the things that we're allowed to."
Paul also talked about the Federal reserve and the printing of money, saying that the candidate he likes the most on foreign policy (besides himself) is not a Republican at all, but liberal Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich.
............

Sitka, where they make something out of nothing. And make news out of what someone from another campaign reports. And where they attack her on "what some say"...the media games.
I just wondered if you had anything specific in mind.
I'm iimpressed that Edwards, in addition to his 24/36 hour marathons, is still the only candidate to show up on msnbc every day - the others send surrogates. he certainly has stamina.
Obama has started having impromptu meetings with the folks on overflow at his speeches - that sounds so much like Howard, never leave anyone out! I imagine the Obama supporters in NH feel much the way we Deaniacs did when we were traveling around for the Gov. awed, excited, hopeful. yes, it does feel good to be FOR someone.
more and more people are listening up to the Ron Paul's wisdom and truth.
Such smarmy selling of third rate political real estate is why I don't need to keep a spoon by my computer in order to gag myself.
I just don't Rupert Murdock gave her money just so he could tear her down. But you never know how such people operate.
>> he follows the money & the bloodbath, where ever it may lead...
I think Obama may hit 44-45%+ today. If so, that's a blow out.
Gotta run - my daughter's cat keeps going after my dog. She weighs six pounds and he's a beasty Weimaraner. It's hilarious.

It's been claimed by some that he's being shut out by the media. But I've seen him all over the place in the past few days. I must admit I haven't seen him yet today -- it's all Obama/Hillary.
Just curious.... are you now trying to help Hillary in order to slow Obama so he doesn't run away from Edwards? ;-)
I'm sure happy you put that smiley face there...I think I might have missed the teasing again. :)

The reason I said that was because someone (an Edwardian) commented yesterday that Edwards now seems to be helping Hillary, and I suggested it was because he doesn't want Obama to run away with it.

CNN meteorologist Jacqui Jeras said more stormy weather was possible across a broad swath of the central U.S. on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service had two reports of tornadoes touching down northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas, on Tuesday morning.
The Associated Press reported that one person was killed in Pope County, Arkansas, according to local authorities.
Others were injured, officials told the AP.
A tornado watch was in effect until 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET) for most of Arkansas and portions of Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.
On Monday night, the weather service received reports of 37 tornadoes sweeping through Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois and Wisconsin. Two women were reported killed by the storms in Missouri.

Posting pubescent prose certainly isn't.
Oh, I'm laughing at some of the guessing I'm seeing and talking points people repeat and how some supporters really don't help their candidate.
Oh yeah, I'm sure Edwards really wants to help Hillary...gee, it's just so evident....just like this mornings interviews. (sic)

You're too modest.
It's a shame we can't rely on our "news" to report...the news.

Here's to hope and unity!
I want someone who will FIGHT for progressive change -- because that is what it always took to get it. We don't get change by appealing to hope and unifying with the opposition. That is the road to cooptation and capitulation.

I think Obama may hit 44-45%+ today. If so, that's a blow out.
Gotta run - my daughter's cat keeps going after my dog. She weighs six pounds and he's a beasty Weimaraner. It's hilarious.

Well I read through all the comments posted on this blog since my last one I posted yesterday (something I do everyday BTW to ensure I don't miss anything).
But mary vb, your post struck me the most. Thanks. It got me to smile a bit today.
For my cat, named Colleen, that my wife and I have had for 13 years, passed away last night. She was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of this Oct and just recently developed respitory problems. The rigor mortis quickly set in.
This morning, my wife and I buried her in our yard.
I'm going to stay off this and other blogs for awhile. I find the give and take exhilirating here but, to be truthful, I just don't have the heart and the energy for it right now, the condition I'm in.
I hope you all understand (I will keep lurking here though, time to time).

Exactly my point yesterday. The MSM is trying to bury Edwards, but he and Elizabeth keep showing up. The only reason he is on the national press is because he is the one to be there to explain what this election is all about.
They are frightened of Edwards. Obama, they can live with. So they (media) have created another steamroller.

Sorry to hear that...it's always hard to lose a good friend. Take care.

It's been said that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Sorry and hope you feel better soon.
Exactly my point yesterday. The MSM is trying to bury Edwards
MSNBC just interviewed him for 5 minutes.
Conspiracies abound.
Edwards has much more in common with Obama than he does with Clinton. His strategy is open to all to see. To become an alternative to Obama as Clinton slides.
Then it is a choice between those who feel we will have to fight for progressive reforms and those who believe we can do it through reaching out and compromising.
You decide.
I'll stick with the fighter who recognizes that we cannot deal with the powerful interests that are now strangling our government.

Sitka,
You missed the point. Edwards is on the national media because he is there demanding to be on. It is free media strategy, but their commentary has been decidedly anti-Edwards. Like Dean, he has taken on the corporate masters of media.
I have no problem with the decision made be the Draft Gore group to go with Edwards no maatter how many of them actually made the decision. It was the right one.
some here think we should all jump on the "Happy Wagon". Who, wants to hear about the work and the fight that lies ahead if we want to take our country back.
Seashell bashers...knock it off. It doesn't belong here. Politics is rough and tumble, but save the personal stuff for the streets. I don't need to be told in a command mode to "cease emoting", or "Nader needs to be stuffed in a pillow case, and those "nasty and horrible Kucinich supporters." While at the same time someone can't mention a fact about Obamas' performance before they are attacked. Is the insinuation or unspoken suggestion that they may be racist? Doesn't belong here.
Edwards has much more in common with Obama than he does with Clinton. His strategy is open to all to see. To become an alternative to Obama as Clinton slides.
If Edwards has more in common with Obama, that would make Hillary the alternative. You'd better put that argument in reverse quick!
I'll stick with the fighter who recognizes that we cannot deal with the powerful interests that are now strangling our government
And knows as well as any since he worked for those interests as a senator.
Then it is a choice between those who feel we will have to fight for progressive reforms and those who believe we can do it through reaching out and compromising.
Campaign literature alert!
You decide.
Thasnk you. I will.
*rd, sorry about you cat... We fear one day someone will dig up our back hard in Miami and be surprised.
Edwards is on the national media because he is there demanding to be on.
Why didn't Kucinich think of that?
their commentary has been decidedly anti-Edwards
Imagination run wild.
Like Dean, he has taken on the corporate masters of media.
He stole Dean's rhetoric, but can't steal his record to back it up.
Interesting surge for Barack Obama. I noticed after his win in Iowa that he 'came alive'. Now he's speaking with passion and - right to us. I'm impressed (reminded me of Howard - a little). Before he seemed more like a professor. He may not have all the experience that others do, but maybe he has enough intelligence to 'choose' an Administration that does AND he'll listen to all sides and 'check the facts'....unlike our sitting 'duck'.
He CALLED the fellow in Kenya about the problems there? THEY were very impressed that Barack Obama called them. Working on his foriegn affairs experience already... He has that quality - like him or not - you respect him.
I see a sudden twist in Republicans. It appeared through their reverse psychology that they wanted to run against Hillary (laughing that they could beat her - hoping that would persuade many to vote for Obama). Now they seem very worried about Obama. Poor Republicans. 70% of Americans say we're going in the wrong direction - we need a change. No bigger change that Obama.
McCain? No chance. The sullen, warhawk cannot get the religious right anymore. He has no optimism - he has NO plan for any changes. The CONservatives don't like his immigration policy and - I think that was supposed to be the big distraction topic of the 2008 election. The Independents he was counting on seem to be going over to Barack. McCain's theme song?.... Bomb bomb bomb - bomb bomb Iran. I don't think so.
