Great Job Folks... Thank You!
Linked to groups: Gettysburg Area DFA Meetup
Well dear friends, the DFALink contest is over. We did very well, but, alas, like the underdog George Mason, we did not make it to the end.
We came in third place out of 194 chapters that started this. Our
friends in New Jersey For Democracy won first place with 133 new
members in the last 4 days. San Diego for Democracy came in second with
105 new members in the last 4 days. We came in third with 76 new members
in four days. That my friends, is an incredible showing!
Think about some of the folks we bested: New York City! Hudson-Mohawk!
New York State! California! We are the little folks who beat a lot of
odds to do an incredible job. Since the beginning of this contest, only
1 week ago, we added 107 new members to our list. Do you know how many
we had when the contest began? 17. That's right, only 17.
Folks, maybe we didn't beat the whole state of New Jersey or the huge
metropolis of San Diego... but we did something much more important: we
came together in a short period of time to accomplish a common goal.
Imagine what we will do when we turn that same drive and attention to
winning elections this fall. Imagine what will happen when we turn this
same energy into organizing to stop the destruction of our environment
and to prevent the state legislators from passing reckless and hateful
amendments to our state's constitution. Imagine this energy directed
toward making the "powers to be" to change their policies of "same ole,
same ole" and start recognizing the growing progressive movement in this
county and congressional district.
Imagine. Imagine, indeed.
Thank you so much for rallying to this effort. Now, with DFA Link, we
have a valuable tools to help us to organize further. GADFA will learn
to use this tool to help our task forces get out their message. We'll
use it to recruit more new members. We'll use it to fill our meetings
and events.
Good work friends. Now... on to new challenges! -Roger Lund, vice-chair

By Rosi Efthim on Apr 4, 2006 7:12 PM EDTGettysburg friends,
Roger's absolutely right. What you have done is nothing short of remarkable. Believe me, we were watching you VERY carefully (and you had us worried!). You were great competitors!
A surge of membership like the one you had shows there is definitely something very good going on in Gettysburg, PA. How will you put this energy, this inspiration and dedication to work next?
Your allies to the east will be alert to your leadership, which is clearly - obviously! - already emerging. Congratulations to all of you.
