Linked to groups: PB/OS in New York State
Hello,We are testing whether DFA Link is a good way to help activists organize on the state wide issues that are most important to them. Verified voting is an important issue to just about everyone involved in the Dean/DFA movement, so I thought I would try to start a statewide DFA Link group here in New York for this specific issue.
The DFA groups around the state support the PB/OS system, along with many other concerned citizens, good government groups and newspaper editorial pages. PB/OS stands for "Paper Ballot / Optical Scan." The system uses paper ballots, which voters mark with pencils (no hanging chads), that are then counted with optical scan machines based at the precinct level. This is the safest, most reliable, cost-effective voting system. It is used successfully in many states.
This "group" here at DFA Link will mainly be used to gather information. If you would like to attend events relating to verified voting, you shoudl find your local group or visit New Yorkers for Verified Voting, www.nyvv.org.
Thank you,
Tracey Denton

I'm curious.
I don't know if I necessarily support optical scanning, but I would be willing to listen to all of the testing and research that goes into determining the reliability and verifiability of the various systems, and help to disseminate that information so that people can make an informed decision. Naturally I would need to hear about everything in layman's terms. I am not a voting system expert. You have to understand if you are not getting a lot of reaction from people, I suspect it is not because of the issue, it is because of the technology. I agree that a paper ballot trail would be the best way to go. But from my limited knowledge the optical scan system could have draw backs as well, you know the old make sure to use a number two pencil and fill in the hole all the way thing. Again I think a layman's explanation or better yet a demonstration would perhaps peak my interest in supporting the cause.
