Where does Dan stand...

Written by: Charles Chamberlain on Jan 14, 2009 12:39 PM EST

Linked to groups: Dan Smith for Mayor

I just joined as a supporter for Dan based on the rumor that he has stated full support for the completion of the Frisbee Disc Golf Course at Leddy Park.

This course was approved by and partially completed under the direction of the Park and Rec Commission. All funding for the purchase of golf baskets and signage was already raised from local small donors and businesses. Leddy Park is a recreation park with two baseball fields, tennis courts, bike paths, hockey stadium, and a beach. There is still plenty of room for the disc golf course and it seems a perfect way to fill out the park to meet the needs of the Burlington community.

Yet, a small number of residents whose property abuts the park have managed to stop completion and throw the entire project into question.

Can you verify that if Dan Smith is elected Mayor, that he would fully support completion of the project?

Thank you.

- Dan of the Frisbee Golf Course at Leddy Park

Thanks for the question, Charles!

I can fully confirm Dan's rumored support of a Frisbee Disc Gold Course at Leddy Park. While Dan respects the concerns of the park's neighbors, he think the Frisbee Golf Course is a perfect addition to the park that reflects the unique character and vitality of our city.

As Mayor, he will support this project from start to finish and looks forward to hitting the chains himself although he is admittedly not the strongest "frolfer."

Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for becoming a supporter!

There are lots and lots of dedicated activists who are passionate about the Disc Golf Course at Leddy.

- no offense to Dan

By Jo*in*Vermont on Jan 15, 2009 6:03 AM EST

but I don't know anything about him, so would someone please advise me of the qualities of his which would make him a good candidate for Mayor of Burlington?  besides his support of Disc Golf at Leddy Park?  I mean, come on people - we're talking mayor, not head of the recreation department.  perhaps Jesse has a link or some source of background information on Dan?  I did check the dfa link, above and this concerns me...

"...That environment is only sustainable if we bring decent jobs and new families into Burlington, grow the property tax base, and broaden our ability to share costs."

okay, so how do you bring in new families w/o displacing old families here?  Burlington has little room for expansion or 'increasing the property tax base".  where you gonna put them, build on rooftops?  take the beautiful green spaces we have and develop them?  just HOW would he accomplish this?

thank you - I'll check back for a reply.

increase the height limit of buildings here to expand our 'opportunities'  and broaden the tax base.  sorry, but NO WAY do I believe that would be a smart move.  I lke his thoughts on green initiatives, though.

Dan sounds like a great guy.  I look forward to learning about his policy positions.  we need fresh ideas in Burlington for sure, but I really need to know more about him than that he supports a lot of local sports activities.

thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some personal background and any plans he may have for the city.
