Governor Urged to Take Action

Our friends at The Citizens' Campaign called on Governor Corzine to issue an executive order to close the loopholes in an otherwise strong State Pay-to-Play law.   These include banning large campaign contributions to Legislative Leadership PACs and Municipal Parties.

What can you do? Contact Governor Corzine and urge him to close the loopholes immediately. Call the Governor at (609) 292-6000
And please forward this email to your friends. It's time the Governor hears from you.

Happy Thanksgiving All! :0)

Bye-Bye Saxton! Say Hello to a Blue Ocean County!

Written by: Robin Kinlin on Nov 9, 2007 3:01 PM EST

November 9, 2007 - 1:08pmSources say Saxton will not seek another termBy Matt Friedman Tags: Jim SaxtonTop Story: Breaking

U.S. Rep. Jim Saxton will not seek another term in Congress, according to multiple sources.

An announcement is expected as early as this afternoon.

Saxton, 64, has served in Congress since 1984.

Saxton was expected to face Democrat John Adler, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, in a district that narrowly favors Republicans. Adler was tapped by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, who Saxton's seat as potentially vulnerable.

Republican State Committee Chairman Tom Wilson said that he had not yet heard directly from Saxton and did not have many details, but had gotten word that he would not seek another term.

“He is somebody who comes from that time and place in politics that were much more genteel, somebody who has friends on both sides of the isle, someone from whom partisanship meant less than getting something done,” said Wilson, who cited Saxton's record on military and coastal issues as his legacy. “His work on military issues is clearly going to be a big part of his legacy. But it’s probably more personal than anything. He’s an old fashioned politician,” said Wilson.

A leading contender to replace Saxton is Diane Allen, a Republican State Senator from Burlington County and a former Philadelphia TV network news anchor. She was re-elected to a fourth term this week with 56% of the vote. Allen sought the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in 2002 and finished second in the GOP primary.

“She has run for federal office before, she’s a good vote getter, and with Hillary Clinton at the top of the ticket there will be an added emphasis on getting a woman (to run),” said Wilson. “There are a lot of reasons for Diane to consider if it’s right for her at this time in her life.”

This Sat. Anti-War Marches Philly/NYC www.oct27.org

Written by: Robin Kinlin on Oct 24, 2007 10:29 AM EDT

Linked to groups: DFA New Jersey

We know everyone is hard at work and doing a GREAT job on the November elections, but If you can take a few hours off (or rather if your candidate doesn't attach themselves to your leg and beg you not to go) try and make one of these!

More info: www.oct27.org

Philly:

In Camden, NJ, participants in a morning rally will march across the Ben Franklin Bridge to Philadelphia, and on to Independence Mall.  The Camden event starts at 11:00am at the Walt Whitman Cultural Center at Rutgers/Camden.  You take Admiral Wilson Blvd to the last exit in Camden before the bridge. Carol thinks it's at 2nd and Cooper (near the bridge)email her if your going carolgay747@aol.com

NYC:

FEEDER MARCH from Bergen County:

Join with the Bergen Coalition for Peace and Justice, Bergen County Military Families Speak Out, Highlands Peace Action and others in walking across the George Washington Bridge!!

10:15 am - Meet at the walkway at Hudson Terrace. Join the feeder march across the George Washington Bridge.
Meet up with people from Northern Manhattan for a brief rally.

Walk 11 blocks to the subway at 168th and Broadway.

12:00 noon - Join the United for Peace and Justice Coalition rally on Broadway, just north of Union Square. People who are not up for all the walking will take cars or other transportation to Union Square.

1:00 pm - March to Foley Square where there will be tables with information about organizing future efforts to end the occupation.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT PARKING NEAR THE BRIDGE:

We have permission to park in the two huge parking lots at 2139 Hudson Terrace which are a few hundred feet from the George Washington Bridge Walkway! The parking lots are right behind the Forte Restaurant at Hudson Terrace and Merkle Avenue. The lot that is higher on the hill says that you need permission to park there. We HAVE permission to use both lots. The owner who gave us permission said he is opposed to the war and wants Bush and Cheney out of office!! He just wants to make sure we don't leave litter in his lots.

You can get to the parking lot if you go up Merkle, which is one way up the hill.

After you park, just walk to Hudson Terrace, walk to the right under the Bridge, and you'll see the walkway.

DIRECTIONS FOR PEOPLE GOING TO THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE WALKWAY BY BUS:

If you're taking a bus on Route 4, get off at the last stop before the bridge, George Washington Bridge Plaza.

Walk up the steps to Lemoine Avenue.

Walk 2 blocks on Bruce Reynolds Blvd. You'll be going downhill.

When you get to the bottom of the hill, look to the left and you will see the entrance of the Bridge walkway.

The walkway is on the South side of the Bridge, the side heading East toward New York. Wear good walking shoes or sneakers. Bring water. We will be greeted by people from Northern Manhattan when we get to New York City.
