"Worst Prez?" Indeed....

Written by: Pam Hoye on May 6, 2008 5:17 AM EDT

Linked to groups: San Diego for Democracy, San Diego DFA

If you attended the Saturday Night Beach Party Blowout during DemocracyFest 2006, you may or may not have known that the guy behind the scenes who put that show together was long-time DFA'er and San Diego for Democracy's own, Charlie Imes.   What many people in his political/activist circles didn't know was that Charlie has also been a singer/songwriter himself for the past 20+ years.

Last summer, Charlie wrote a song called Worst Presnaent Ever (yes, the misspelling is on purpose) and he is releasing it on his new CD, On An Island.  Charlie called on world class impressionist James Adomian to play the part of Bush on the song, just as you may have seen him do many times in sketches on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS.  The result is a song that delivers its message with some humor and a strong, catchy melody.  It's been gaining a very positive response and some great pre-release buzz.

Worst Prez LogoIf I may ask a favor, I'd like you to do two things.

First, check out the song.  Go to http://www.myspace.com/crimesofmusic and listen to Worst Presnadent Ever.  It's the second song on the site. Then, if you do like it and feel the song speaks to your heart and mind...

... then please tell friends.  Request it on your favorite progressive talk radio shows, or anywhere else you think might play it.  In the next week, A.L.E. Productions will be sending out CD singles of Worst Presnaent Ever to every progressive talk show host and radio station it can find.  They can use your help identifying them too.  Not people like Mike Malloy, Thom Hartman, Randi Rhodes, Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz and the usual syndicated big names because these are already on the list.

They want to know about all of the local and smaller market people broadcasting the truth out there. So if you know of any small market or local talk shows, hosts or stations, please send an e-mail message to Martha Sullivan, owner of A.L.E. Productions, through the DFA Community at San Diego for Democracy or at ForDemocracy@aol.com.  Martha was another lead member and co-chair of the DemocracyFest 2006 team, and the Executive Producer of this project.  On An Island is the first release for Martha's new company, Apply Liberally Enterprises (or A.L.E.) and I think it will do well.

While you're at it, if you like Worst Presnadent Ever, check out some of the other songs from On An Island.  While the rest of the album isn't political in nature, I think you'll find that it's a great summer soundtrack album, filled with catchy songs and great performances.  There's even a couple of multiple Grammy Award winners on the project.

The CD will be released sometime in the next week or two, and I'll post an update announcing the release and its availability.  People willing to buy the CD or download some songs, may do so on the CD Baby website or iTunes soon.  In the meantime, check out the song and help some fellow DFA'ers spread the word. With the recent CNN poll showing Bush at an all-time record 71% disapproval rate Worst Presnadent Ever could become the new American anthem!

Rumor has it--actually it's from the mouth of the Chair of the NH Democratic party--that the Chair of the DNC is scheduled to attend the New Hampshire State Democratic Convention on May 17 in Manchester, NH.  State officials, candidates, delegates and guests are invited.  Preregistration is appreciated--here

Ok, polls in NC are 6:30 am to 7:30 pm (that means Michael, that you'll have 13 hours, instead of 1 hour, to avoid polling places)

Where you going with that gun in your hand?

No, I'm just kidding. What I meant was I heard that you are experincing the same blog problem as I was, namely, your account had been rendered inactive in the transition to the new blog format.

I contacted support enough times to get their attention, and Tim was able to reactivate my account, telling me he didn't know what the glitch was that caused it. You should try it if you haven't already. I've found that the secret is persistence.

Next thing you know, you're going to tell us that Obama can't win against McCain in the fall.  That's what Huron John always mentions whenever he writes to say he won't be voting for one of McCain's opponents.  Of course, he also mentions that if he does vote for a Democrat, specifically Obama, it's possible that McCain will lose.  Imagine that.

The only news that would matter today would be if Clinton netted 15 total. That would keep the slim hope of MI and Florida in play for her. break-even between the two states and they can go ahead and seat Florida, cause Obama is uncatchable;sorry Michigan but ain't nobody gonna count a ballot with only one name on it

I was in Elizabeth City yesterday for Obama.

Great time.

I would have stayed for today but I have to work tonite.

There were so many people there. People coming in all the time to ask about registering to vote.

The great thing is NC had early registering to vote and actual voting up to May 3. How great is that.

The office was well staffed and there were a lot of people from Va there. One lady came off the way from Elizabeth NJ. I can't believe in that short of time that I made two new friends!!

Today is important there . Evidently dailykos is asking people to send food to the offices in NC and IN.

- I slammed the WAVY cameraman yesterday in Eliz city

By linda b on May 6, 2008 11:12 AM EDT

Yesterday, about 12:30 pm I was getting out of my car at the Obama HQ in Elizabeth City.

right next to me was the WAVY tv van from Norfolk.

When I got out, the driver, who is the cameraman said hi. I said "What are you doing here?" He said they were interviewing the people in the volunteer office.

I said "Well you came to the right place, cause Obama is going to win".

Things went downhill from there.

He said something about, he couldn't vote for someone who wouldn't put his hand over his heart for the national anthem. I thought , here we go.

I said "You put your hand over your heart for the pledge of alliegance, not the national anthem."

He said "Oh no, Obama also put his head down and hands behind his back" I said "where do you get this stuff?"

He said "I can't support someone who hates this country"

Well I let him have it, I said "Listen, this country is in such bad shape and you just care about something trivial? I thought we could move beyond this crap!" His mouth just dropped.

I turned and walked into the HQ. When he finally came in with his camera, I stood there and said "Would you like an Obama button?"

He looked at me and just walked away.

By floridagal . on May 6, 2008 11:49 AM EDT

What a character this guy is. Take a look at the outfit. I bet the superdelegates love to be threatened.

Clinton's Superdelegate Hunter

"Would anyone want to pick a fight with Ickes, the famously ill-tempered bad boy of the Democratic Party who once bit a rival political operative on the leg?

Who once got so mad at having to remove his shoes at an airport security line that he marched off to his plane, yelling "Keep them!" over his shoulder, and flew home in his socks? Who sometimes answers reporters' phone calls with a curt "I'm sorry, Mr. Ickes isn't here now," and then simply hangs up?"
