Night School Summer Update

Written by: Arshad Hasan on Jun 4, 2007 4:12 PM EDT

Linked to groups: DFA Night School

Hey everyone!

You have been participating in DFA’s online training program Night School for a while now. Since you’ve been involved in Night School I wanted to give you an early heads up about our upcoming Semester starting next week.

In past semesters, we’ve explored many skills needed to run an effective campaign or organization including working with the media, getting out the vote and holding officials accountable after the election.  During the last few months I have received numerous requests to cover sessions on one of the most important and often most challenging aspects of campaign work: raising money.

It all starts next Tuesday, when we learn how to take the necessary first steps of writing out a plan on how to fund your campaign.  Next, we focus on two of the most effective and commonly used (or misused) fundraising tactics: Fundraising Events and Candidate Fundraising Calls.  Finally, we’ll wrap up the Summer Semester by looking at two tactics that have revolutionized fundraising in recent years: Online giving and Email.

DFA Night School 2007 Summer Semester

Developing a Finance Plan

We’ll send everyone more details later this week, but since you already know a bit about how Night School works I’m asking you to invite two of your friends to attend as well.  Better yet, host a Night School House Party and invite all of your friends!

Join us as we learn how to raise the money we need to continue taking our country back.

[H]owever, the audience was riveted as Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the guest speaker at the $175-a-plate dinner, stood on the podium and began the customary round
of recognition of candidates and incumbents in the room. When he got to Mr. Lieberman, who is his mentor in the Senate and who helped recruit him to speak at the event, the applause again was muted.

"I know that some in the party have differences with Joe," Senator Obama said, all but silencing the crowd. "I'm going to go ahead and say it. It's the elephant in the room. And Joe and I don't agree on everything. But what I know is, Joe Lieberman's a man with a good heart, with a keen intellect, who cares about the working families of America."

Then, with applause beginning to build, he finished the thought: "I am absolutely certain that Connecticut's going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the United States Senate."

The news should be all about the crook Libby. But since no one strong-armed Jefferson from resigning earlier - that's what's in the news. Nice going, Dems.

A black criminal is always going to get more coverage than a white convict.

That's an historical fact.

I spent months deducing that the early leaders of Gainesville after the civil

war were for the most part black because their names, even when they

won elections, never showed up  in the papers.  The only thing in the papers'

archives were stories of black criminals and bandits.  Even the papers people

saved in their attics and donated to the library only had stories of black criminals,

no white crooks.  Those papers must have gotten thrown out because the

court records did identify some.

-----------

That's happening not the first time in Presidential elections...

You'll be choosing "lesser evil" anyway while been not "all happy" about him. And then they'll tell you how "we are safer now" or how senator Lieberman "cares about the working families of America".

"Progress" and sela-vi (spell) at the same time..., all over again..., lol

I see that teatime’s not all happy go lucky about him and Mike won't vote for Obama, who said on April 3, 2006 that he knew some in the party had differences with Lieberman and that he and Lieberman don't agree on everything,  but that Lieberman's a man with a good heart, with a keen intellect, who cares about the working families.

I’ll steer you to a preferable candidate: Al Gore.  On June 19, 2006, he said he’s not involved in the primary, but that "Joe is my close friend, Joe and Hadassah are close to Tipper and me and it would be very difficult for me to ever oppose him. But I don't get involved in primaries typically. He's a great guy and he's right on a lot of other issues."

That's btw very good point too.

I'd like very to hear from Gore himself the evaluation of HOW and WHY (if any) his current attitude toward this "good man" has changed.

hahaha, my firstie is from my daily check of browse all last night, I just got here now

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a new first place, for person I would like to share a dinner conversation, by bumping into Andre Codrescu of NPR fame who is in our town filming a TV show on the Mississippi River and had traveled up with a film crew from Baton Rouge. Got a chance to visit with him a few minutes. Long enough to find out he is a Gore fan club member. Like me he thinks it will take the very best person Democrats have to repair the damage done by Bush, and Gore has the experience to maybe succeed. And he too is of the belief that Al will enter the race in the fall. Cool guy. It was my lucky day to spend ten minutes talking politics with a voice i admire on the radio.
it amazes me how people can support  Joe Momentum. ICK ICK ICK ICK ICK...
Most certainly one of the many reasons why I am not into Obama.
But, this is contradictory, Joe was AL's V.P choice-- I still can't figure that one out. But, none the less, I love al.
Last thread was on DFNYC fundraiser evening. I was there!  it was cool, first time I met Jim Dean. I MUST SAY-- he does not photograph well AT ALL-- he looks much thinner in person. Same for Al Gore.   Wish I caught up to Norm siegal at the event, he is great.
I'm did not like Al in the 2000 election.  I dislike Lieberman more.   But I believe Al has gone through a transformation of self.  I don't think al is the same man he was even three years ago.  Like Bobby Kennedy he has had a transformation and that is what makes him more appealing to me.
Joe has one of the most distinguished civil rights records. (to balance all the bad things I have said about him) 3/4 of his votes or more have been right ones
Gore picked him as anti-Clinton, for distance, plus a chance to improve the vote in swing state Florida.
John Edwards said the other day that rather than pick a VP that was not like him for balance; he would pick someone who would agree with his world vision such that the policies would continue, if something happened to him in office.
Welcome back as always.........I find it amazing, that in a country that seemingly prides itslef on truth and justice, that we need a "maverick" to basically advertise and disclose the truth about our nations poor choices in foreign policy decisions, lobbying from foreign influences, corporate corruption of politicians and of course catering to the military indiustrial complex........
its odd that many here go along with this charade of charades and are willing pieces in puzzle allowing it to continue..............if men like Gravel, Paul, Kucincich and most likely any Green Party rep, then the rest are just plain liars and a detriment to this demcoracy.
Hi Folks,
Thunderstorm heading my way, so just a quick hello.  Yes, Gore is definitely the best candidate.  I thought it was interesting that he told Keith Olbermann that he wasn't very good at politics.  Given the Orwellian atmosphere and language, that's may be a plus, actually definitely a plus.
Howard Dean has tremendous talent and energy to inspire as well and has a presence that is very charismatic.  Gore/Dean, what a ticket.
Just watched the back story on DVD on Memoir of a Geisha.  The music created by John Williams, the set creating a Japanese town in the 30s, Istak Perlman and Yoyo Ma in the orchestra, the costumes, the scriptwriting, the cinematography,  the choreagraphy, the acting and dancing, all genius quality.  We have such extraordinarily talented people in this country and the world, why oh why do we have such dangerously incompetent and benighted fools in our government?!
I think it is hysterical that Tom is trying to frame an argument of Al Gore NOT endorsing Joe in his primary vs Barack Obama who DID endorse him.
"Gore Refuses to Back Lieberman
Interviewed on Bloomberg TV, Al Gore refused to endorse his former vice presidential running mate, Sen. Joe Lieberman (C-CT), in his re-election race.
Said Gore: "I am not involved. I typically do not get involved in Democratic primaries. Joe is my close friend, Joe and Hadassah are close to Tipper and me and it would be very difficult for me to ever oppose him. But I don't get involved in primaries typically. He's a great guy and he's right on a lot of other issues."
Of course, Gore did get involved in the 2004 Democratic presidential primaries and backed Howard Dean over Lieberman."
VS
"[H]owever, the audience was riveted as Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the guest speaker at the $175-a-plate dinner, stood on the podium and began the customary round
of recognition of candidates and incumbents in the room. When he got to Mr. Lieberman, who is his mentor in the Senate and who helped recruit him to speak at the event, the applause again was muted.
"I know that some in the party have differences with Joe," Senator Obama said, all but silencing the crowd. "I'm going to go ahead and say it. It's the elephant in the room. And Joe and I don't agree on everything. But what I know is, Joe Lieberman's a man with a good heart, with a keen intellect, who cares about the working families of America."
Then, with applause beginning to build, he finished the thought: "I am absolutely certain that Connecticut's going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the United States Senate."
================
He wrote a book on her. That and another book are reviewed today in NY Times
don't know about dc whores, but he makes a good point that there should be biographies of all candidates to read. Also, between Bush I and II and Clintons, if we are headed for dynastic presidency, we better make the right choices.
His biggest complaint is that her biggest drawback is being "not authentic" but thinks she has the ability to be authentic.
She voted for Goldwater, but worked for the most left-wing law firm in Arkansas. He's very critical, but also very admiring about some things.
What Jefferson did may or may not even be against the law depending on whether he used his office, and it involved Government business. Innocent until proven guilty. Bernstein interviewed 200 people to write the book. Talked to her first boyfriend. She had good leadership and mediation skills in college and graduate school, suggests she lost lots of that.
Monica I hate G'ville -- when I was very young I moved there from Atl as a young wife and found it such a cow town compared to Atl. That prejudice has never left me. We used to go to Gator games in the sun dressed in suits!! This was the late 60's. Must say they have a superb classical radio station however, considering all we get down here is c o u n t r y. My little town, my brother says he remembers a sign 'Blacks must be out of town at sundown.' To this day there really aren't many/any AAs here -- thy iive in a nearby town. My relationship with AAs is complex beyond belief -- someday I'll try to write it down and maybe stick it on my little blog to keep it from being such a Pape shrine.
I STILL like Obama folks. And Gore is not in the race btw.
Pat thanks to your review I'll go put Geisha in my Queue -- for the music if nothing else. I have the first of Ma's Silk Road CD's and it is quite marvy.
Oh! Monica, what I've been cued to lately is Germany espec former E Germany. Which is closer to where you grew up and more culturally familiar perhaps? to you as the South is to me, maybe (not to put words in your mouth). Some of the stuff I've read - espec about the bombing of Dresden. Germans are just nice European folks like us who let a nutcase get into office huh? Something I was reading today about how there was a concert at the Berlin Phil back say '45 and the Russians (who I guess were Allies) were handing out suicide pills to the patrons as they filed out. If I find the link I will link it here. Just goes to show bad guy/good guy is such a relative thing.
