Dr. Conaway is the only member of the New Jersey Legislature with both a medical and a law degree. In the Assembly, he serves as the Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, Vice Chairman of the State and Local Government committee, and a member of the Appropriations Committee
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Politics from Princeton University, earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and earned his law degree from Rutgers Law School, Camden. Post medical school, Conaway served as a United States Air Force Captain, a general medical officer, and an assistant director of the Primary Care Clinic at McGuire Air Force Base.
Assemblyman Conaway was recently elected to a tenth term representing New Jersey’s Seventh Legislative District. In his past decade in office, Dr. Conaway wrote the Health Information Technology Promotion Act, which established and implement the state’s electronic medical records infrastructure, sponsored New Jersey’s Primary Seat Belt Law, expanded the list of crimes for collecting DNA samples, and added technology to New Jersey schools core curriculum standards.
