Phoenix City Council, District 6
Kevin Patterson has been a proud Phoenix resident since 1998 – currently he resides in North Central Phoenix with his husband and their two daughters. As a former public educator, he witnessed firsthand the impact of neighborhood safety, community programs that support education, and access to city services have in the community. Kevin is a born leader who has devoted himself to advocating solutions on challenges that many are faced with today.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science is Psychology, Patterson understands the powerful impact that strong leaders can have on their community members. As the Director of his community’s largest local employer and healthcare leader, his core mission is to improve access to healthcare and ensure that patients receive high-quality care.
In addition, Kevin has previously served as the Board Director for the Arizona Children’s Association, as well as co-founder of Project Jigsaw, a community project designed to remove barriers that prevent the 19,000 foster and adoptive kids from finding loving homes. His determination and personal mission to fight for equality for all Arizonans, including LGBTQ citizens and people of color, is seen through the spectacle of his family. Throughout his life, Kevin developed an understanding of family values, which has made him a better husband, father, and man. He has allowed his personal values and his contributions as President of Equality Arizona to be the push to continuously advocate within a state that has not always been supportive of the LGBTQ community.
Over time, Kevin has realized that the best way to advocate for his family, friends, and neighbors is through holding a seat at the table where decisions get made and where he can bring in a diverse and progressive perspective to the issues that affect individuals daily. He has dedicated his life to his family, community, and his vision for a more progressive and equitable Phoenix. Kevin is running for Phoenix City Council because he feels that his role in the community would be the voice needed in order to defend values of equity, freedom, and respect for all. He believes in a City of Phoenix that works for everyone, providing accessible opportunities for people from across the identity spectrum to succeed and thrive.
