Mayor of Berwyn IL
Ted Polashek was born and raised in Berwyn where he lives with his wife and their son. A first generation immigrant from the Czech Republic, his family fled a dictatorship to bring their family to America. Polashek’s father died when he was a child and Ted was the leader of his household – caring for his mother who spoke limited English and two sisters one of whom is disabled and blind. Polashek learned the values of helping people in need, volunteering, and leading in his community from this early age and has been active in local community organizations ever since.
Ted is committed to service and giving back to the community. He was formerly the President of Sokol Tabor, a local community center where he coached gymnastics and physical fitness to children and organized community events, and worked with the Berwyn Main Street organization. He has worked closely with other local elected officials on scholarship programs for students attending college. Polashek has also organizes community snow removal efforts to ensure that the most vulnerable in the community have support during the harsh winter months. As firefighter, paramedic, and engineer he has worked to help those in need his entire career, and he has served as 6th ward alderman since 2009.
