Second Non-Federal Candidate Endorsement List of 2006

BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced more additions to its DFA-List, Candidates for America. These candidates share DFA's values of fiscal responsibility, social progress and grassroots engagement. They are dedicated to fighting to take our country back by working for change from the ground up.

"These candidates are truly dedicated to putting America back on the right track," said Jim Dean, chair of Democracy for America. "Their years of grassroots activism and commitment to positive change make them ideal candidates to serve in our city and state governments. We are proud to put DFA's support behind them."

The DFA-List Candidates are:

Deval Patrick for Governor of Massachusetts. Patrick has earned the support of DFA members across Massachusetts by empowering people to participate in the democratic process. He will fight to strengthen the state's education and health care systems; and work to bridge the gap between economic development and environmental stewardship by supporting the development of renewable energy in Massachusetts. http://www.devalpatrick.com/

Marian Harris for Ohio State House. Marian Harris has been a long-time DFA organizer committed to making DFA-Central Ohio into one of the central pillars of the progressive movement. Now she's taking the next step by running for the Ohio State House in District 19. Harris will fight for adequate education funding, new jobs and health care for all Ohioans. http://www.marianforohio.com/

Salvador Peralta for Oregon State House. An Oregon DFA leader, Sal is running to change the direction that Oregon and America are headed in. He will work to enable small businesses and working families to opt-in to the state's prescription drug pool, and will fight to close tax breaks and loopholes for companies that are taking Oregon jobs out of state. http://www.peraltafororegon.org/

Lew Frederick for County Commissioner in District 2, Multnomah County, Oregon. Lew has co-hosted a DFA group since 2003 and helped organize the Democracy for Oregon steering committee. He is running for local office so he can move Portland in a new direction by bringing together information from stakeholders in the community, experts and service providers, and work together to craft priorities for public service. http://vote4lew.com/

Anne Dicker for Pennsylvania State House. Anne is a long-time DFA member and co-founder of Philly for Dean, Philly for Change, and PA for Democracy. She is running for PA House District 175 in Philadelphia where she will fight for adequate education funding, oppose massive property-tax increases, and make the legislative process more transparent by increasing public oversight. http://www.annedicker.com

Jack Markell for Re-Election as State Treasurer of Delaware. Since first elected, Jack has helped cut government waste by approximately $6 million each year. He is committed to maintaining Delaware's fiscally responsible ways by continuing to streamline the state's fiscal management. http://www.markell.org
