My personal volunteering highlight:
I have been a long time blogger. I volunteer as an author on many blogs. I am not compensated. I not only author my blog, but I also write for "Citizen Orange", "The Sanctuary" and "The Peace Tree." I have recently started cross posting with "Long Island Wins."
I have mentored other PRO bloggers.
My blog serves as an example in "The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Writing - 5th Edition." A number of instructors have referenced me to their students. They have written to me and I have responded, encouraging new writers to start blogs and continue with their writing.
In my worklife, I was the VP of the HISPA group (Hispanic mentors). We often read to Latino children and encouraged them to continue their education.
More about my volunteering with progressive organizations:
I am a member of DailyKos and write Diaries focusing on Immigration and others on Politics.
I work with Kyle de Beausset and am a member of the Pro Bloggers Group. I volunteer as an author on other PRO blogs.
What motivates me:
My father. My father was very active in providing Humanitarian support for all migrant workers from Texas to Michigan and throughout the midwest. He did such good work that he was recognized by Governor G. Mennen Williams for his help in the documentation of the Migrant Laborer experience from the depression through to the 1950s.
In blogging, I believe I am providing a small contribution to the Humanitarian work my father started.
Additionally, over the last several years, I have seen the negative impacts the ANTI Immigration Reformers have had on the migrant workers currently residing in America. The ICE Raids and the Detention Centers as well as the Hate Crimes against Latinos have raised my awareness to the degree that I am willing to spend day and night in drawing attention to this issue and in support of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
How I try to motivate others:
I mentor other bloggers. I communicate with my commenters. I blog relentlessly for the cause in the hope of changing one person's mind, stopping one hate crime, persuading one congressperson to vote in support of CIR.
Where I see myself in five years:
I will still be blogging. I am not in this for fame or fortune. I am blogging to support the passage of CIR and to stop Hate Crimes.
My suggested bumper sticker slogan for the Stand with Dr. Dean campaign:
Think of the Children!

Participation in the blogosphere is important because...
It is critical that the PROs participate in the blogosphere. For too long, we have allowed the ANTIs to dominate the internet. Because of their massive numbers on the net, they have been able to persuade the American public to their side, in blogs and in newspaper comment sections.
It is time the PROs provided the American Public their perspecitve. Ours is the logical perspective. Ours is the Humanitarian perspective. With more people on the web, speaking logically, intelligently and civilly, we will win this argument and the support of the American Public.

Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend
As a Latina grandmother, I want to share my knowledge and history, my father's history, my grandfather's history. I want to help people understand, from a personal perspective, why it is so important that Comprehensive Immigration Reform be passed. I want to share that the Mission of my blog is to stop Hate Crimes against all Latinos and all victims of Hate Crimes. I can relate my perspective from my personal experience.
