This is a HUGE program error. Please do try to see that it gets corrected.
Obviously, the DFA cannot take an official position on this, however in talking to someone at DFA Headquarters this morning, we can do the following:
1. E-mail our personal & political contacts, asking them to call the White House comment line (202-456-1111) between 9am & 5pm. You might have to hold but eventually a person will get on and take your comment. Just say that that you support Dr. Howard Dean for the position of Secretary of Health & Human Services because as DNC Chair, Governor of Vermont and being a physician, he is the best person for the job. 2. Call your Senators and your Representative to voice your position on Dr. Dean for HHS Secretary. 3. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper suggesting Howard Dean for HHS Secretary.
Why can DFA not take a position? They endorse candidates for office all the time.
- Please write to President Obama at the White House and urge him to appoint Gov. Dean.

As a DNC member I like Dean. He led well. Community organizing on his behalf is helpful.
The calls should go to more than the White House and your Congressmembers.
Call your county chairs; call your state party officers; contact your DNC members; call a couple caucus chairs; call your doctor; call PDA; call the DNC offices; call your own pastor; call your county supervisor. Ask these folks to champion Dean. Obama's team respects creative community organizing. The old school approach of just calling your own elected representative isn't syncopated enough for this political generation.
Obama's campaign created buzz. If you want Dean in the cabinet, call Harkin's office to thank him and get creative about contacting other influencers on Dean's behalf. People like to feel important and to be asked for support. A groundswell will not hurt.
Btw, this multipronged approach is key to understanding Facebook, Twitter, etc. All communication, all directions, all the time.

To the public Howard Dean is a hardworking, ethical, successful organizer and physician; he is well qualified for this HHS position, therefore, Obama should appoint him NOW to reform the health care sector. I hope Dean has no unpaid taxes! Carol Heasley
Facebookers Back Howard Dean for HHS Secretary
In the wake of Thomas A. Daschle's decision to withdraw his name from consideration for secretary of health and human services, some Democrats said they were at a loss for whom President Obama might nominate next.
Perhaps those Democrats should check with the thousands of Facebook members who want physician and former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean to serve as the next HHS secretary. ...

National Call-in Day for HR 676
The Leadership Conference for Guaranteed Healthcare is encouraging everyone to participate in the next National Call-in Day for HR 676. Mark your calendars… February 12, 2009: Call Congress, and the President If your member is a current co-sponsor, thank your rep. and ask him or her to stand firm for HR 676 and actively seek additional co-sponsors. If your member was a co-sponsor in the last Congress, ask him or her to sign on immediately as a co-sponsor in this Congress. If your member has yet to co-sponsor HR 676, ask him or her to please become a co-sponsor, select one or two talking points here. In a letter to Col. William F. Elkins written November 21, 1864, Lincoln wrote: "I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed." In celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday, remind your member of Congress to honor his words and heed his warning as we look to reform his precious nation's healthcare system. Urge your member to accept testimony from panelists to explore the serious flaws in the Massachusetts health plan and examine why it cannot serve as a national model for providing universal and comprehensive care, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 2:00-4:00pm, 2226 Rayburn House Office Building.
Donna Smith Tim Carpenter Katie Robbins P.S. Don't forget to call (202-456-1414) or fax (202-456-2461) the White House to make sure our current President recalls how very troubled another young lawyer from Illinois was as he viewed the future of the nation under the control of the monied and corporate interests just like those swirling in the for-profit health insurance industry.

- Howard Dean for Secretary of Health and Human Services
By Alyson Cohen on Feb 3, 2009 9:58 PM ESTTonight on Hardball Chris Matthews asked Senator Clair McCaskill why is there "bad blood" between Howard Dean and the White House? He asked why they are ignoring Dean when he has given so much to the Democratic Party and is a large reason for the party's success. Matthews agrees Dean would be an excelllent choice for Secretary of HHS. One must wonder if Rahm Emanuel is blackballing Dean because he didn't agree with Dean's 50 state strategy when the strategy ultimately proved to be the right decision. Who advised Obama to chose Daschle who was close to being a lobbyist? Poor choice. Howard Dean is the right person for the job.
