Rally for Gun Sense
Texas Capitol Building--South Steps Outside
11th at Congress Ave.
- Ron Coldiron
About This Event:
On Saturday, April 6, 2013, a coalition of groups supporting common sense gun laws will rally on the South Steps of the Texas Capitol.
The majority of America agrees that we must enact common sense laws - now - to help prevent gun deaths. This rally will bring like-minded Texans together in support of stronger gun laws and sensible gun violence prevention measures. It will be a chance to show our political leaders that we have woken up, and we will not tolerate inaction.
The rally’s organizers:
Support universal background checks
Support a ban on assault weapons
Support a ban on high capacity magazines
Oppose allowing civilians to carry guns in K-12 schools and on college campuses
Speakers will include political and community leaders, medical professionals, faith leaders, and survivors of gun violence from across Texas, including:
Nelson Linder, Head of NAACP - Austin
Rep. Elliott Naishtat, Texas House District 49
John Woods, Director of Texas Gun Sense and a Virginia Tech graduate who lost friends in the Virginia Tech tragedy
Kathy Staats, EMT and first responder at the Virginia Tech tragedy
Kim Marlow, a Houston mom who lost her daughter, Kami, to gun violence two years ago. April 6 would have been Kami's 28th birthday.
The event will be family friendly and feature live music.
The rally is organized by Texas Gun Sense, the Texas Chapters of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence - Texas.
