Barack Obama and Joe Biden...

Written by: DFA Staff on Aug 28, 2008 9:00 AM EDT

... officially our Democratic nominees!

For the first time in a long time, Democrats are being showered with positive press from last night's all-star speakers. From the New York Times:

The historic nature of the moment quickly gave way to the political imperatives confronting Mr. Obama, who arrived here on Wednesday afternoon and is to accept the nomination Thursday night before a crowd of 75,000 people in a football stadium. After days in which the convention often seemed less about Mr. Obama than about the two families that have dominated Democratic politics for nearly a half-century, the Kennedys and the Clintons, he needed to convince voters that he has solutions to their economic anxieties and to rally his party against the reinvigorated candidacy of Mr. McCain.

Obama accepts the nomination tonight, then all we have to do is win this thing.

The Party and the name opposite it on the ballot

were on full display. This is the Party of all those speakers and all of us as well, and with a small mark on a ballot all of that impressive crew will be working for you to make a better America.

This isn't just about Barack Obama, because it is he that says "we". He will succeed tonight to the extent he makes this election about all of us and the future.

Obama is the nominee because he has been able to best articulate that message. America is the country where we dream and dare, and make it happen.

The Paul Wellstone formula ... love with just a little carburation of anger at the injustices that still exist leading to action

Be a part. Volunteer. America can turn a page of history in November for as Barack said four years ago in that speech that launched him: "We are one America"

What a dream fulfilled, if we are freed from our past to the promise of what can be.

Yes we can.

- Paul Wellstone

With the Republican proximity to Minnesotans next week I thought it wise to bring up one of the fathers of our Party on stage last night, turning in his direction. Wouldn't hurt to mention his name a few times from Denver to counteract the noise to come from St.Paul. Pawlenty will put MN in play.
