Almost time for Democracyfest!!!
Linked to groups: Blogs United, Latinos for America, Blog For America, DFA Delegates and Alternates to the Democratic Convention, DFA Blog Network
August 16 & 17 is the time for all Howard Dean and Jim Dean supporters to come and out and have a great weekend of training, great speakers, and just plain fun.
The Dulles Holiday Inn is the place to be. The Democracyfest team is hard at work making final preparations.
Go to www.democracyfest.net and sing up to attend if you haven't already done so.
Howard Dean will be speaking Saturday night, Aug 16 at 7:30 p.m. His speech is free and open to the public.
Our Virginia Democratic Women's Caucus is a sponsor so we will have a table set up. Come on over and say hi!! www.VaDWC.org
lol - I say that every year. next year my finances should be in much better shape (God willing). and I have an especially important date that weekend - sitting with my grandsons so their hardworking parents can go to a concert on the Burlington waterfront!
thanks again, Jess and Rich!
...for DFest. It's all Jessica and the organizers. By chance, I happen to live nearby.
I'll never foget how you showed up and volunteered to help at the registration desk the first year and then stayed there the whole weekend! I remember I kept trying to stop by and ask if you wanted a break and you said no, that you liked meeting the people when they checked in...and then you asked me if you could take a break when Howard spoke. LOL! People like you are the community that makes this event happen.
...is there an issue with the commitments for DemFest?
Bigtime
Verbally agreed to a sponsorship of $5,000, only sent $2,500 after receiving numerous phone calls from the organizers, as well as emails - all unanswered for a several days to a week. Finally agreed to $2,500 but no promotional actions.
$2,500. Our Chair, Training Director, Training Deputy, and additional specialized trainers. Flights, hotels, and training materials. Promoted with a live link on the training schedule since January. All provided at no cost to the organizers. This is a significant investment and way higher then for a typical convention. Also significantly more then $5,000 in total.
I don't know if Love White Castles is one of the organizers or is just repeating something someone told them. It is incredibly unprofessional of the organizers to be framing our support in this way. This lack of respect is not encouragement to
continue support in the future.
- Charles, It appears from your comment that you may be making a lot of assumptions.
By Susan Rowe on Aug 10, 2008 2:43 AM EDTNobody with Democracy Fest has disrespected DFA in any way. DFA's sponsorship has been listed on their website since the commitment was made. This annual Dean/DFA grassroots event is next weekend. It would be gracious to see it promoted well here. For many of our Dean/DFA grassroots activists this is the one national event of the year that they always plan to attend.
I was just responding to Love White Castles discription of how it went down.
Sadly, I have never made it to a Demfest. I was busy working a campaign for DeanFest, but my candidate (Dave Patlak) spoke at it. Broke when DemFest was in Austin. I had just been hired at HQ when it hit San Diego. Had to speak at statewide organizing coference set up by DFA leaders in Iowa last year. Can't make it this year either. I hope you take lots of photos Susan that way all of us who miss it can still be apart of it.
Wish my VISA card worked that way...that I could 'commit' to paying half of it. (and btw I am not an DemFest organizer altho I did contribute $ in an attempt to absorb a little of the shortfall after I found out about it - I guess 'free speech' isn't actually...go tell Howard he has been wrong all along.) No disrespect meant here - just trying to communicate.
so it will be put on the front page, thanks guys.
I look forward to seeing all my blog friends.
Just get the word out and we all can support this great event.
I have gotten my women's caucus to sponsor a table, bought my husband and I a ticket and donated some money to the event.
We all can make a difference.
Also would like to thank DFA for going to the Take Back America conference the past two years and to Netroots Nation. They will also be at the Dem National convention in Denver.
I will see them there.

Seriously, DFest is the blog writ large and in person, and I mean that in the best way. It's also just around the corner from my house :-) Meet people whose names (or handles) you know. Clear up misunderstandings (Subway thought I didn't like him until we met on the covered bridge last DFest, and I explained our policy differences were just that -- and nothing more.)
Visit Washington, watch the Nationals play at our new stadium, see the new Air and Space museum minutes from the DFest site!
