Democratic Leadership in the House will decide TODAY

Word is that Democratic Leadership in the House of Representatives will decide TODAY if they have the votes for the most robust version of the public option currently on the table.

Leadership knows they have the votes for some form of public option and that if they don't include a public option they can't even pass the bill. So negotiations at this point come down to how strong, how robust of a version of the public option can the House pass in thier bill. The stronger the House version of the public option is going into final negotiations with the Senate, the harder it will be for the Senate to water it down during the merging process for the final healthcare bill to be passed by both houses.

Press reports say the whip count for House members who support the strongest most robust version are short by only 12 House Democrats and your representative may be one of them.

Rep. Dina Titus needs to hear from you RIGHT NOW. We may only have hours before House leadership makes their decision.

Representative Dina Titus (NV-03)
Washington DC:  202-225-3252
Local Office:  702-387-4941

Suggested Script:
"Please tell Representative Titus I support passing the strongest most robust public option and I'm depending on her to come through for Nevada when it's time to vote."

This is crunch time. Your call today will have a huge impact. Please make your call right now.

Thank you for everything you do.

Special Titus Meeting On Health Care Mon. 8/3/09

Written by: Karen Kostoff on Aug 3, 2009 3:48 AM EDT

Linked to groups: Las Vegas Democracy For America, Henderson NV Democracy For America

To all of you that are concerned about Health Care, the Health Care bills our Congressman are trying to pass, whether you are for a public option, universal single-payer, or upset with Congresswoman Dina Titus for her recent vote against Health Care, please make a point to come to this special meeting.  It's certain our Congresswoman had good reason for saying no, let's give her the benefit and have her explain why.  There is often more reason than we may realize.
So please come and take advantage of this opportunity to find out why right from the source.  Ask her yourself, let her know your concerns and see what she has to say on the subject. (Or just tell her to get on board with Conyers HR 676 and be done with it!)

Here is the invitation just received from Dwayne Chesnut of Team Titus...
Dear Fellow Team Titus Members:

Congresswoman Dina Titus would like to meet with us Monday evening, August 3, 2009 in the Painters’ Union Hall—1701 Whitney Mesa   (Turn East onto Ramrod, just north of the intersection of Mountain Vista and Sunset; building is on left.)  The entrance is on the West side of the building where we always enter for our HDC meetings.

This is a special meeting squeezed into her schedule on very short notice, so she can discuss the battle over health care reform now being fought in Congress, and answer any questions you have on the legislative process and her position on the issues.  Please plan to arrive around 5:30 p.m.

Look forward to seeing you there...

We Stood With Dr. Dean in Las Vegas

Written by: Karen Kostoff on Jul 10, 2009 3:06 AM EDT

Our Las Vegas and Henderson NV, Democracy For America groups today partnered with a group of Move On members to deliver petitions.  We all are a part of Stand With Dr. Dean to work toward a Health Care Public Option.  The DFA petitons in Nevada came to over 1,900 and I believe Move On had about 1300.

We met at the Federal Building and held a rally and a few of the members went up to Senator Reid's office and Senator Ensign's to deliver the petitions.

We thanked Senator Reid, who just yesterday he told Sen. Baucus to be sure and include a public option in his bill.  Actually, we've all emailed or called Senator Reid's office and even signed onto a petition he had out stating we wouldn't support any healthcare reform that did not include a public option.  So it was terrific that he in effect came out for that yesterday.

I just want to thank some of our members for all their work and efforts to make this a success.  Teresa, who is always one of the very best Organizers of anything political, helped the Move On people get this set up.  Linda and Cathy did a great job making signs, blowing up the petitions to make them larger and easier to read and going to each Senators office.

Not to mention what an excellent job they did talking to the Media.  They know this issue and came across sharp and well informed, as they are.  So much so, they are mentioned in the Las Vegas Sun article.  You can check it out at http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/jul/09/grassroots-group-petitions-ensign-public-health-ca/

Also a special mention to George, who we missed as well as a couple others when we went to take pictures of our members.  But thanks, George, we can always count on you to be there.

And how can I forget Carl, who is always keeping all of us informed on all issues and any changes to them all the time.

Lastly go to the Media section of our page for the other (repetitive) pics of us guys at the rally.

Hope to see you at the next one.

Health Care Rally Sat. 6/27/09

Written by: Karen Kostoff on Jun 25, 2009 3:12 AM EDT

We, as DFA members, Standing With Dr. Dean to fight for a Public Option should all attend!

You've probably received emails directly from DFA asking that you sign the petition in support of "the public option" at www.standwithdrdean.com (please do so if you haven't yet).  And you may have seen Dr. Dean on every dozens of TV appearances explaining the need for "the public option," that without it there can be no true health care reform.

Here in Las Vegas, there will be a big rally in support of the public health option on this Saturday, June 27th at the corner of Russell Road and Fort Apache Road, which is also the location of WEllPoint, the nation's largest insurer (operating here as Anthem Blue Cross-Blue Shield).

We need DFA volunteers to help distribute reminder cards to people at the rally so they, too, will sign the online petition.  We want as many names on the Nevada segment of the petition as possible (which over 385,000 people nationally have already signed) when we deliver copies to our elected federal officials.  Will you write back if you will be able to help at the rally? Or call Karen 510-5110.

Here is the invitation for the event...hope to see a lot of you there!

Join Democratic activists this weekend to raise awareness about the 46 million Americans, including 470,000 Nevadans, living without health insurance and to support  Pres. Barack Obama’s is efforts to reform the broken health care system.

Progressive groups PLAN and Pushback Network, with the cooperation of the Nevada State Democratic Party, will host a rally in support of health care reform at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27 near the offices of WellPoint, one of Nevada’s largest insurers and a major opponent of the president’s reform agenda. WellPoint, which has 35 million subscribers nationwide, has offices near the corner of Russell Road and Fort Apache Road, Las Vegas, NV 89138. Rally attendees should park along Fort Apache north and south of Russell.

Please join us for next Saturday’s rally in support of health care reform. To RSVP for this event please email rsvp@nvdems.com or call Adrian Matanza or Leora Olivas at 702-737-8683.

Single Payer--Stand With Dr. Dean

Written by: Karen Kostoff on May 6, 2009 12:30 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Henderson NV Democracy For America, Las Vegas Democracy For America

Ok, we know we are working with the Stand With Dr. Dean Campaign to let our elected officials know we at least want the option for Single Payer Health Care.  It was a campaign issue with all of our candidates but again once they get elected what happens to those issues we voted them in to receive?  We have to keep them accountable.  We have to make sure our leaders follow OUR lead not some other agendas.

As you know, the next step of the Stand with Dr. Dean campaign is to recruit your local elected officials. The DFA goal is to have 500 elected officials sign onto Dr. Dean's pledge by the end of May and we need your help to do it.

Getting your local elected officials to sign on is easy. Recruiting city councilors, state legislators, even dog catchers, might be as easy as talking to a neighbor or a friend. In fact, you can just send them straight to StandWithDrDean.com and they can fill out the "Elected leader" box right on the sign-up page.

Now, do you as a DFA member want to join me in doing so?  Contacting our elected officials?

If you are at all hesitant or so sure the Obama Administration will certainly keep our single payer wish in mind.  Have a look at this from Ralph Nader:

Yesterday morning, eight doctors, lawyers and other activists stood up to Senator Max Baucus.

And the private health insurance industry.

And the corporate liberals in Congress.

The eight activists demanded that single payer - everybody in, nobody out, free choice of doctor and hospital - be put on the table.

And as a result they were arrested.

And charged with a so-called "disruption of Congress."

The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Politico, Democracy Now and National Public Radio all carried stories about the protest.

C-Span carried it live.

And it was widely disseminated on the Internet.
