Hello DFA!

Our regular Thursday meeting today (10/5/06) will be at the usual time and place -- 7PM at Lubbock County Democratic Party HQ at 74th and Elgin. Our agenda includes setting up a screening of "Iraq for Sale" later this month as well as planning for get-out-the-vote activities in the first week of November. It will be a good one -- short, sweet, and effective!

After the meeting we will meet for coffee at J&B Coffee on 26th and Boston, as we did last month. If you can't make the 7PM meeting, we will be at J&B by 8:15PM. Join us there for invigorating talk about what else could go wrong for Republicans this election cycle. :)

7PM @ HQ to meet
8:15PM @ J&B to energize!

Hello DFA!

Texas Democratic Women (TDW) is doing training sessions Saturday the 9th at 2pm (today), and Wednesday at 6:30pm at Lubbock County Democratic Party headquarters (74th and Elgin). The objective is to learn how to do online phone banking using True Blue Action Tools and update the Voter Activation Network (VAN). The phonebanking would help all of our local campaigns.

It is also fun! The TDW folks need at least 4 people at each session to make this work. Please consider going to training today (sorry about the short notice) or Wednesday.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to school!

You are all invited to a Pool Party this Thursday, August 31st - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. We will be at a neighborhood pool located at 5018 27th St. - East of Slide Road. There will be food!

This party is intended to help us get organized for the Voter Registration Drive on campus. We need volunteers to help us at the Voter Registration table to be located in the Free Speech area of the Student Union Bldg. All those interested in volunteering for the Ricketts For Congress campaign are invited.

The Ricketts for Congress campaign will also need student volunteers for various other events as well such as 1) putting out signs, 2) calling Primary Voters during the Early Voting period to get out the vote, 3) going door to door on Saturday mornings to help us pass out materials in targeted neighborhoods, etc........

There will be many opportunities to work with the campaign in the next couple of months - together, we can make a difference!

Be sure to RSVP to this invitation with a reply to this email so that I will have some idea of how much food to bring.

Have a great week, and be sure to make time for this meeting. Invite your friends! We look forward to seeing all of you.

Thanks,

Quepha

Lubbock Democrats Lend a Helping Hand

Quoting the press release sent to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal about the school supply program launched by Leo Flores, precinct 4 chair:

People Before Politics
Democratic Party hopes to help by handing out school supplies Lubbock--Today members of the Lubbock County Democratic Party distributed school supplies to area students. "We wanted to take care of an extra expense" said Leo Flores one of the event's primary organizers. The Democratic Party understands that high gas
prices have affected working and middle class Americans all over the country including Lubbock. In an attempt to make life easier for parents, any students were eligible to receive the supplies as long as they were present to pick them up. The Lubbock County Democratic Party was hoping to give supplies away all week at its headquarters, located at 2809-A 74th ST, but due to overwhelming response to the
offer, resources were exhausted by the end of the day. Nearly 1000 students were able to receive a bag which included: a pencil box, mechanical pencil, protractor, and pencil sharpener--supplies not normally available at school supplies giveaways. The event was organized by Leo Flores and Mary Harris, who put in many long hours and who hope that the event will expand and become an annual occurrence. The supplies were purchased with donations from members of the Lubbock County Democratic Party. Flores was quoted as saying, "the Democratic party knows how much high gas prices have affected those in our community, and how many expenses come with the beginning of school." The Lubbock County Democratic Party welcomes anyone to drop by party headquarters at 2809-A 74th ST anytime to discuss any concerns they may have, and reminds the residents of Lubbock that it puts people before politics.
