Some Feedback On Sarah Palin

Written by: George Matthews on Aug 30, 2008 2:27 AM EDT

Democrats,

Anyone who has ever doubted the far reaching arm of 'oil' barons and their
surrogates into the political process in this country should stand up and take note
of the blatant choice of running mate for John McCain (not by John McCain), Sarah
Palin. Alaskans' environmental silence and cooperation with 'big oil'
has been bought and paid for...for years. Sarah Palin is no exception.

For many years Oil's big reach into U.S. politics is the main reason we have
not had a 'greening' in our energy policies (and they are 'our'
energy policies and we need to elect politicians and leaders who have the guts to
stand up to 'big oil' and take them back).

Palin is a self righteous, anti-choice, anti-gay marriage, love my guns, anti-environment
VP choice....meant to distract voters, once again, into voting out of fear. This
is a Republican political tactic tried and true. Blasting the electorate from the
handbook of generating political fear.

Bought and paid for by 'big oil'. Big Oil wants political results...they
want their lackey's in power...and Rove's tactics are tried and true for
the GOP. Sarah Palin is a Representative for 'big oil' whether she is aware
of it or not. Issues like whether woman get to have choice over their bodies or
whether she can take an AK47 hunting or not, are the red herrings of our day....and
'big oil' laughs all the way to the bank as they shut down energy policy,
keep prices high, pollute our environment and concentrate on their latest campaign
push.

That real push is to open up drilling in the protected preserve and elsewhere, including
our coastal shores and leave the 'outdated' energy policies in place that
will continue huge oil company profits. Many Americans, like myself, deeply resent
our National Armed Forces being used to secure the control of oil on foreign soil.

Anyone who believes that this selection of running mate is a bold maverick choice
not dictated by oil company interests is not looking at the way that the oil industry
has corrupted American politics over the last 35 years'; post Arab Embargo.

As Barack Obama stated on Thursday...

If we can put a man on the moon, with a ten year commitment, something Kennedy committed
to and did, starting in 1960....we can solve our energy needs and end our dependence
on foreign oil with the same type of political will and commitment.

We need to elect leaders that will represent a real change and shift.

I believe Obama is that leader.

Now lets work to get him elected.

Here is some other stuff concerning Sarah Palin, some is just funny feedback, and
some is factual.

**********************************

Hmmm...so let's see if we've got this straight ...we have a 'hockey
mom' who likes to fish and hunt and is younger than Obama with no Washington
experience...who is also a first term governor with sterling credentials as a sports
journalist and mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

She certainly will be well qualified to assume the role of commander-in-chief should
very senior citizen McPander die while in office.

***********************************

The Fat lady is singing

Agree or not with Bill Clinton's assessment that Obama "hit one out of
the park" with his first Presidential decision -- the selection of Joe Biden
for VP -- McCain's team, after botching a sacrifice bunt with their absurd "Obama's
just a celebrity" ad campaign, appears to have just grounded into a double
play to end the inning.

***********************************

Sarah Palin vs Wildlife

Sarah seems not to really care about the rights of the wildlife in her state over
special interests. She feels the polar bear is not really threaten by melting ice
caps and she feels it is okay to kill wolves by aerial hunting. Maybe if she became
VP she would declare war on wildlife and protecting special interests by putting
them under the Threaten Species Act. I am sure McCain wouldn't have a problem
with that.

***********************************

There could not be a more appropriate venue

McCain is trotting her out for the first time in Dayton, OH, at Wright State University,
at the NUTTER CENTER.

**********************************

Just another upstanding Repuglican!

This is a pip! What genius on McCain's staff thought of this one? They have
just handed the election to Obama, thank heavens!

She is against the polar bears survival, her political decisions have been questionable
- the thing about her sister's ex husband being punished for something that
she should have recused herself from.

She has too many children. (Remember the planet?)

She is a lifetime member of the NRA. Really?

She's an all round gem. She has been in office for two minutes in a state that
seems to have no conscience about some really important issues. They think Ted Stevens
is an okay guy.

They think it's fine to drill anywhere in the world and don't understand
that we're trying to get ourselves out of the oil business in favor of green
forms of energy.

In short, she's a perfect match for Grampa Diapers.

Breaking: Anti-environmentalist and enemy of the polar bear, Sarah Palin, is McCain
VP pick

'I know Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton.' --Debbie
Wasserman Schultz, (MSNBC) live interview 29 August with Andrea Mitchell. 'This
is just an example of colossally bad judgment of John McCain,' Wasserman Schultz
added.

McCain Chooses Alaska Governor Palin as Running Mate --
Palin Will Be the First Woman Nominated to the Ticket by the Republican Party 29
Aug 2008 Republican presumptive presidential nominee John McCain has chosen first-term
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, the campaign announced today.

Investigation dogs Alaska governor --
The allegations she abused her office could prove embarrassing for Palin, who got
elected in 2006 on an ethics reform platform.
14 Aug 2008 Gov. Sarah Palin, a rising young GOP star mentioned as a possible running
mate for John McCain, could see her clean-hands reputation damaged by a growing
furor over whether she tried to get her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
A legislative panel has launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin
dismissed Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire the
trooper, Mike Wooten. Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin's sister.

Protecting polar bears gets in way of drilling for oil, says governor
23 May 2008 The polar bear should be removed from the endangered species list because
its protected status will hamper drilling for oil and gas in Alaska, the state's
Republican Governor has demanded.
Sarah Palin is suing the Bush Administration over its decision last week to place
the animal under the protection of the Endangered Species Act, claiming that climate
models predicting the continued loss of sea ice - the main habitat of polar bears
- are unreliable.

Governor opposes polar bear protection --
Environmentalists say Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is skating on thin ice with her opposition
to efforts to protect polar bears.
02 Nov 2007 Palin said last week that listing the bears as threatened under the
federal Endangered Species Act because of possible global warming would open the
floodgates for petitions to protect other species, the Anchorage Daily News said
Thursday.

Governor Sarah Palin Has What It Takes to Be the Next Dick Cheney
By Chris Kelly 27 May 2008 Over the weekend, the Anchorage Daily News discovered
a whole new reason Governor Palin is the perfect person to be the next Dick Cheney:
She can look you in eye and tell you black is white. Especially when there's
oil involved. Back in January, the secretary of the interior was considering whether
or not polar bears should be on the endangered species list... The polar bears weren't
drowning. They were hanging themselves in their cells...
All I know is, there are lots of polar bears and no scientific reason at all to
believe they can't live happily, underwater, eating clean coal. Let's get
drilling! It's almost like Republicans say ridiculous twisted half-truths, and
the New York Times publishes them as facts.

Worse Than Quayle
by Trapper John
Fri Aug 29, 2008 at 08:36:03 AM PDT
So it's official - John McCain has thrown a Hail Mary and tapped Alaska Governor
Sarah Palin as his running mate. The trad med types are ga-ga about what a game-changing
choice Palin is. And they're right. It is a game-changer. The Palin pick takes
a race already leaning toward Obama and pushes it further into his corner.

Why? Because Sarah Palin is the most unqualified VP nominee in modern history, with
the possible exception of Admiral Stockdale.

She's worse than Quayle.

After his selection in 1988, Dan Quayle was rightly lambasted as a dim, inexperienced
lightweight with no real pertinent experience who was named by George H. W. Bush
as a gimmick - a case of an old, out-of touch candidate trying to appear relevant
by teaming up with a much younger pol. Now, Palin's not Quayle - by all accounts,
she's quite bright. But she's fantastically inexperienced, far more so than
Quayle was when he was tapped. And she possesses an attribute far worse than Quayle's
stupidity - she's a big corrupt wheel in Alaska's big corrupt Republican
Party, arguably the most corrupt political apparatus in the United States.

We're told that McCain really wanted to pick his old friend Joe Lieberman to
run with him, but that Karl Rove and the rest of the elite Republican politburo
nixed the idea, and told McCain that he had to take a conservative. And as he has
at every step of his campaign, the one-time "maverick" sold out to the
venal, icy core of the Republican leadership, and acquiesced by selecting Palin.
Palin is really a Republican after Rove's heart - she's a product of the
party that produced the indicted Ted Stevens and ethically tarred Don Young, and
she's embroiled in a Troopergate scandal of her own, with state investigators
looking at serious allegations that Palin abused her office by pressuring the state
Public Safety Commissioner to fire "an Alaska state trooper involved in a rough
divorce from Palin's sister." Sounds like a woman after Karl Rove's
heart.

In addition to further associating McCain with the Republican culture of corruption,
the Palin pick undermines one of his main anti-Obama narratives.

It's going to be laughable to hear McCain assail Obama's supposed lack of
experience after naming the first-term governor -- only one-and-a-half years into
her term -- of the 47th largest state to be his running mate. Palin lacks any foreign
policy experience, and is bereft of even the two core areas of policy expertise
that governors are supposed to bring to a ticket -- ag policy (Alaska doesn't
have much in the way of traditional agriculture) and urban affairs (Anchorage is
the 65th largest city in the US, behind giants such as Corpus Christi). She's
easily the least experienced running mate in recent memory, which is pretty scary,
given McCain's age and his history of cancer.

By picking Palin, McCain revealed his desperation to make a splash to rival the
genuine excitement generated by the Obama campaign. But desperation leads to poor
decisions -- and McCain's Hail Mary, like most last second desperation moves,
is destined to fail miserably. He's smeared himself with the pungent mud of
Alaska Republican corruption, while cutting the legs out from one of his most reliable
attacks against Obama. And he's presented Americans with the prospect of electing
a dangerous neophyte to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, behind a man whose
life expectancy is less than two presidential terms.

***************************************

Seriously? Sarah Palin for VP? It's one thing for millions of voters to put
forward a sitting senator as a possible commander in chief, but for John McCain
to hand-pick a first-term governor of a tiny state is bizarre. Here are five reasons
why, if she is the pick, this is a huge mistake:

Five reasons why Sarah Palin is a laugh-out-loud choice for VP

1. There goes McCain's best argument.
He cannot say Obama is not ready but she is. Obama started organizing his campaign
for president the same month she was sworn in to lead the third-smallest state's
government.
2. She has no base of support.
Obama won his senate seat with 3,597,456 votes, that's more than five times
the population of Alaska. He has won more than 18 million votes in a long, tough
primary that tested him and prepared him. How has she been tested? She lost her
first bid for statewide office, then won the governor's office with 114,697
votes, not a majority, but enough to take office. And apparently, enough to set
her up for the Oval Office.
3. The "woman card" will backfire.
She's no Hillary Clinton. And this is such an obvious ploy. It would be different
if she were known to anyone or qualified or something.
4. Alaska, a corrupt hinterland.
Yes, she is a hard-nosed, tough reformer. But the McCain campaign will have to deal
with the fact that Alaska seems like a foreign land as corrupt as Louisiana. It's
longtime senator will stand trial smack dab in the middle of this campaign season,
and McCain may have to vote to remove him from office. Yes, they can spin it that
she is someone cleaning up the mess up there, but what Americans realize is that
they don't know much about what goes on up there. Will they be comfortable with
her?
5. Was this McCain's choice?
It seems clear that McCain wanted to go with Lieberman but was talked out of it
by the right wing of his party. Rove admits calling Lieberman to ask him to pull
his name out. Bush lost his way because he never stood up to Rove et. al. McCain
is headed down the same path.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin faces state probe, nixing McCain VP rumors

Alaska doesn't get much news coverage, stuck way up in the northwest there on
the shortest route to Asia. Not unless there's some crime (see the federal indictment
of Sen. Ted Stevens this week) or the eternal congressional fight over drilling
for oil in an unprotected corner of the ArctiAlaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin
enjoys very high popularity in her state but the state senate opens a probe into
her conduct over an attempted firing of a state trooper, likely nixing her longshot
chance as a VP candidate with John McCainc National Wildlife Refuge.

Recently, there have also been some murmurs about its telegenic, reformist Republican
governor, Sarah Palin, as a possible long shot for vice presidential running mate
with Sen. John McCain.

The 44-year old mother of five earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" for
her intensity as a high school basketball player, a nickname some political opponents
have kept alive in adult times. She doesn't seem to mind.

The well-spoken politician won election in 2006 as a reformer and was quickly seen
as a rising star in Republican political circles.

There was even a "Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President" movement or, at
the very least, a website, despite her claims that a spot on the national ticket
was not in the cards "this time around."

She's doing all right with Alaskan voters too, enjoying envious statewide popularity
ratings somewhere above 80%.

But now Palin is also caught in a probe of her official conduct that likely nixes
whatever chance she had to be on the McCain ticket. She's only been a governor
for two years, but that's about four times as long as someone else mentioned
as GOP VP pick, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

However, questions have now arisen over whether Palin used her office to try and
fire her ex -brother-in-law from a state trooper's position. Palin asserts the
charge is untrue, but the Alaska Senate this week approved the hiring of an independent
investigator to look into the allegation.

- Actually Palin's polls now are

By Joan In Florida on Aug 30, 2008 6:42 PM EDT

giving her about 65%.

One reporter said that if journalists, who know what has gone one in Alaska, were polled, she would be in the teens or twenties.

HA!

I couldnt agree more with the thrust of this thread. In fact, I was explaining to my father last night on the phone that Oil chose her(Palin), not Mccain, and to my surprise he agreed with me. maybe there's hope for the old guy after all.
:)

Slowly, he's learning what its all (really) about.

It is scary that this VP pick is so blatant in how it truly makes for a "4 more years" campaign.

If the Bush-Cheney merger with big oil wasn't enough, now we get Palin who is ready to rape Alaska for oil.  And I'm pretty sure most voters eye's are not open to the simple fact that the Bush-Cheney-Big Oil merger has made the past 8 years hell for consumers and the environment.

Will voters wake up in November 2008 in time to realize drilling for more oil and the promise for possibly lower gas prices in the future are not solutions for the true energy problems facing us.

- Talking Points

By Thomas Janowski on Aug 30, 2008 7:52 PM EDT

Before Republicans slap themselves silly patting each other on the back for running a woman for VP, we should be ready to offer counterpoints.

1.  Why did it take Republicans 24 more years than Democrats to run a female for VP?

2.  How much experience comes with being Governor of Alaska when the Monroe County, NY county executive governs more people?

3.  If you forget Obama and McCain for just a moment and pretend the presidential campaign is between Biden and Palin, how would things shape up?

3a.  It is statistically far more likely something would happen to McCain at the age of 72 that would put Palin in the office of President.  Is she ready?

4.  Is Palin the best VP candidate the Republicans could find?

5.  She's being investigated for ethics violations.

- Alaskan MoveOn Members Speak...

By David Reiter on Aug 30, 2008 10:00 PM EDT

MoveOn members were asked what they knew about Governor Palin. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

- Obama's campaign mixes Palin message

By Susan Rowe on Aug 31, 2008 5:16 PM EDT

Spokesman fires off criticism; candidate offers his praise

MONACA, Pa. - Barack Obama's spokesman fired off a fast criticism of Republican John McCain's new running mate yesterday, but the Democratic candidate himself quickly stepped in to offer her congratulations and praise.

Obama, who is eager to win over female voters who backed his rival
Hillary Clinton in the primaries, blamed the mixed messages about McCain's choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on campaign aides with a "hair trigger."

He and his running mate,
Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, followed up with congratulatory phone calls to Palin.

[...]

As the plane was lifting off from Denver, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement...

Soon thereafter, with the plane over the Midwest, a spokeswoman gave reporters on board a much kinder statement from Biden and Obama.

- Palin-another Brownie?

By Hy Dubowsky on Aug 31, 2008 9:21 PM EDT

MCCain picked another "Brownie".  Ask yourself what the Commander of the Alaska National Guard would have done to handle Katrina and now Gustav?

Pretty and witty but a lightweight. Just the way the Republicans pick em,

- Palin-another Brownie?

By Hy Dubowsky on Aug 31, 2008 9:26 PM EDT

So you have to ask yourself what would the Commander of the Alaska Natiional Guard do three years ago with Katrina and now with Gustav. Her pick is like having Brownie in the White House. Pretty and witty but without the proven skill sets needed for the job. As history shows, just the way Republicans like them. The problem is, America can't afford any more of these disaster personality picks.
