Oil Crisis: Oil Industry's method of raising prices and cutting their own taxes

Regarding opening environmentally protected areas for mining and pumping oil:
There is over 200 years of oil in the 48 contiguous States that are capped up by oil companies to monopolize world energy. There is no need to violate our environmentally protected areas, just to allow oil companies to further monopolize their strangle hold over our lives.
They are creating a media frenzy just to increase the price of oil; very successfully I might add. However, there is no immediate threat for an oil shortage !!! The oil companies have ONLY created the perception that there is a shortage !!!!
I personally believe that ALL mineral rights belong to the American People, NOT souless corporations!!!
I applaud Venezuela for nationalizing the oil assets in their country!!!!
We should be doing the same thing here in the United States !!!!

Primary Election Results: Success for DFMC A-List Candidates
Linked to groups: Democracy for Monroe County
As you know, the results are in. DFMC's A-List Candidates performed very well, and our winners included:
- * Mark Stoops (Commissioner)
- * Warren Henegar, Geoff McKim, Julie Thomas (County Council)
- * Kevin Enright (Surveyor)
- * Valeri Haughton, Elizabeth Cure (Judge)
Three members of the DFMC Executive Board won election as delegates to the state convention:
- * David VanDeventer (Vice Chair)
- * Eric Schmitz (Treasurer)
- * Carole Scifres (Secretary)
In addition, several DFMC members were elected as delegates - too many to list here, in fact!
I'd also like to remind everyone that DFMC will support every Democrat on the ballot in the fall, regardless of previous endorsement. We'd like to add a hearty congratulations to Iris Kiesling, Amy Gerstman, Jerry Reed, and Cathy Smith.
I hope you'll also join me in thanking all of the Democratic candidates for making this a race to remember - one that was full of positive and progressive choices. Hopefully, all of these candidates will run again in the future, and continue to bring their spirit of dedication, hard work, and public service to all of the citizens of Monroe County.
DFA Academy in Bloomington, IN
Linked to groups: Democracy for Monroe County
Well, even after a night's sleep, I'm still a bit dazed from this weekend's activities! The DFA Academy came to Bloomington, Indiana, this past weekend, and it was a truly amazing experience! After several months of planning, organizing, and often frantic scrambling, we finally got to The Day – and it was well worth it.
The last thing we got planned was the Friday evening Meet-n-Greet. When we didn't have any venue worked out by a mere week beforehand, Carole, one of our organizers, made the suggestion that we hold the Friday social at my house. We live just outside Bloomington on ten acres, and it's a beautiful place, if I may say so myself. Lots of folks had come in from out of town Friday evening, and it was great to have a chance to meet each other casually before getting started Saturday morning. My regret is that Matt and Dorie, two of our DFA trainers who also arrived Friday afternoon, didn't manage to find the place!
Speaking of the trainers, I must say they were top-notch! Matt Blizek, especially, was like the "Energizer Bunny" all weekend. Even by late Sunday afternoon, he seemed to have just as much energy as he had Saturday morning – and having energy that early on a Saturday morning is itself impressive!
