Description:
Our story...
A small group of local Otsego and Delaware County (NY) citizens began attending meetings in August 2003 to support Governor Howard Dean during his bid for the U.S. Presidency. Although he ultimately withdrew from the Democratic primary process, it was clear that Dean’s campaign changed American politics forever. That change can be summed up with the words that he always proclaimed at the end of his speeches: YOU have the POWER!
This is the inspiration for the creation of Democracy for Otsego and Delaware Counties. Our local group utilizes the resources of Democracy for America which was founded by Howard Dean in March 2004. However, we are not legally affiliated with this or any other organization.
What we do:
1. Promote candidates for public office who demonstrate the understanding, experience, and commitment to work for policies that support people of all walks of life without bowing to wealthy special interests.
2. Educate voters through voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, candidate forums, workshops, link-ups, petitioning, demonstrations, and other grassroots activities.
3. Network with other like-minded local, state, and national groups to form effective coalitions toward achieving positive change.
4. Promote the true spirit of democracy by spreading the word that we have the power!
