August 17 (Thursday), 7 p.m.: Voter Registrar Training, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights. There are a number of ways you can change things. One of them is to become a deputy registrar and register lots of new voters. The Tenth Congressional District Democrats are sponsoring a Deputy Registrar training session. The training lasts about an hour, and will be a great opportunity to get trained as a deputy registrar before the campaigning for the November elections is in full swing. Becoming a deputy registrar will allow you to officially register voters, not only in Cook County, but anywhere in the state of Illinois. You will be able to give a new registrant a verifying receipt -- which insures that they will be able to vote on election day. If you are already deputized, the training session will provide a refresher and familiarize you with the new rules and new forms. Please RSVP by August 8. Include your full name, address, and city/zip. The clerk's office needs that information to confirm that you are a registered voter yourself. We need 25 participants to ensure a trainer from the Cook County Clerk's office. You do need to be 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of Cook County. Contact: Maria Santonato, msantonato@sbcglobal.net.

At the Summer Training they will bring in national leaders to train 100 Young Democrats. You should be one of them! Location: Chicago Hilton, 720 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago. On the afternoon of Sunday, September 10th, an estimated crowd of 2,500 people will gather at the Grant Statue in Lincoln Park to participate in the Anti-Defamation League's second annual "WalkTogether," a 5K walk and run. minutes of July 18 meeting

Written by: Roberta Jacobson on Jul 20, 2006 8:36 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Illinois Sixth Progressive Dems

MINUTES FOR THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE IL 6TH PROGRESSIVE DEMS
www.il6thdems.org/...

The meeting was held on Tuesday 7/18 @ 7 PM at the Plum Library, 110 W. Maple, Lombard. 11 members attended.

Gary called the meeting to order about 7:10. He opened nominations for Vice Chair for Fund Raising. Mike Kisler was nominated, it was seconded and he was elected.
For your convenience, the current officers are listed at the end of the minutes.

Gary then opened the floor to nominations of candidates to be officially supported by IL 6th Progressive Dems. Several candidates were nominated, and seconded, followed by discussion of each. The following were selected by vote of those present to be supported. We intend "support" to be meaningful: members of the group will actively work for these candidates. This may involve activities such as volunteering individually for campaign work, joining in group canvassing, and passing literature for multiple candidates during group canvassing.
Candidates receiving a vote for support are:
Rob Bisceglie 45th District IL house www.votebisceglie.com
Joe Vosicky 46th District IL house www.JoeVosicky.com
Tammy Duckworth 6th US Congressional District house seat www.duckworthforcongress.com
Dan Bailey DuPage County Board District 4 (baileyd@ameritech.net)
Richard Dunn DuPage County Board District 4 (www.RLDunn.com).
Nominations were closed, though they could be re-opened in the future. The limiting factor in the size of the list is how much time our members can devote to support candidates.

Gary then presented several ideas for possible events to be organized by our group. All were approved after motions, seconds and votes.
 A Forum for Democratic candidates for state and local offices: The format of the event is to be decided. It will probably involve a brief self-introduction by each candidate, followed by some questions from a moderator, and perhaps audience questions. We will attempt to work with other groups on this, as the Bloomingdale Township Dems are also discussing this idea. We aim to hold it sometime in September. Mike Kisler will spearhead, and Beryl Jacobson will work on it.
 A Health Care Forum: This was already done by PDI. Both Gary and Nayana volunteered to work on this event. Speakers would talk for 10-20 minutes, and then the audience would ask questions. It will be necessary to find a place and speakers and set a date & time. Nayana mentioned the Physicians for a National Health Program, SEIU, Access DuPage, Stephen Challinor, and others as possible participants. The time frame for this event is early October.
 Group canvassing for our supported candidates: The canvas dates & times will be coordinated for Joe Vosicky by Mike Kisler, and for Rob Bisceglie by Roberta Jacobson. We will carry information for all supported candidates, as it is available. Generally we will let our group members know the canvas information, and they will notify the appropriate campaign staff that they are going to canvas, and are 6th Dems.
 Voter Registration/Get Out The Vote (GOTV): Mike Kisler said that we can become voter registrars in about ˝ hour. This training could be provided by DAWN, or at an event at COD, or we could set it up for our members. Mike will talk with DAWN and the Registrar and report back to us on our options. Registrars can now register persons for locales throughout Illinois.

DuPage Democrats Booth: You can contact Mike Kisler [mlkisler@comcast.net] if you want to be at this booth at the county fair.

Events List: From now on, please send events of interest to the 6th Progressive Dems to Bill Thomasson, by Friday. He will send out one consolidated list by the first of the week. This should cut down on e-mails, and provide us with a good comprehensive list of events.

Mike K. noted that all of the DAWN booth time slots at the Fair have been filled.

Roberta asked that we send all official 6th Dems announcements through the DFA site. This will cut down on duplicate work and e-mails. She will send an e-mail asking everyone to be sure to sign up on DFA link, in order to get the messages. If anyone is not getting the DFA announcements, they should go back to the DFA site and double check and probably correct their e-mail address. The Yahoo group will be used for members to chat with one another easily, since regular members can only communicate with the group by blogging on the DFA site.

The next Executive Council meeting is on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, August 8, at the Plum Library, 110 W. Maple St, Lombard.

The next General Meeting is on the 3rd Monday of the month, August 21, at the Plum Library, 110 W. Maple St, Lombard.

The meeting adjourned about 8:15.
