Oil Crisis: Oil Industry's method of raising prices and cutting their own taxes

Regarding opening environmentally protected areas for mining and pumping oil:

There is over 200 years of oil in the 48 contiguous States that are capped up by oil companies to monopolize world energy. There is no need to violate our environmentally protected areas, just to allow oil companies to further monopolize their strangle hold over our lives.

They are creating a media frenzy just to increase the price of oil; very successfully I might add. However, there is no immediate threat for an oil shortage !!! The oil companies have ONLY created the perception that there is a shortage !!!!

I personally believe that ALL mineral rights belong to the American People, NOT souless corporations!!!

I applaud Venezuela for nationalizing the oil assets in their country!!!!

We should be doing the same thing here in the United States !!!!

Introduce an IRV resolution calling on your state party to endorse IRV at your Local Precinct Caucus on Feb. 5th. Become a delegate to your senate district and state conventions to vote for IRV along with your favorite candidates!

DFL and Republican caucuses are Tuesday, February 5th, with registration generally at 6:30 p.m.

The Independence Party has a state convention on January 26th and the Green Party has set March 4th as its caucus date. Check the Libertarian Party website for its convention date. Find your caucus location here.

FYI: Barack Obama and John McCain have both endorsed IRV, and Howard Dean as well. There is also a long list of supporters at the State Level, from the media to candidates and from non profits to elected officials. IRV groups are popping up in Southeastern MN and Duluth.

Join the movement for Instant Runoff Voting today and learn more at our St. Paul & Mpls DFA IRV & Election Integrity Group.

"War Is Not The Answer" Yard Signs Now Available!

Written by: Karl Keene on Nov 5, 2007 7:59 PM EST

I've got some exciting news for the Fargo-Moorhead area! Earlier today I received a shipment of "War Is Not The Answer" yard signs from FCNL (Friends Committee on National Legislation - the Quaker Peace Lobby). The signs are made of corrugated plastic and come with metal wire stakes.

FCNL is showing its opposition to President Bush's "surge" plan for Iraq by having it's own surge - a surge of "War Is Not The Answer" yard signs across the U.S.!

Hundreds of thousands of these signs have been distributed across the country, and now you can become an important part of this movement! FCNL is calling on us to get these signs out to as many people as possible.

If you would like a yard sign, just e-mail me at: keenekarl@hotmail.com (Put "Yard Sign Request" in the subject line of your e-mail). I'll e-mail you back about where you can pick up your sign.

FCNL requests a suggested donation of $5.00 per yard sign, but no one who wants a sign will be turned away.

  "Buying the War"

The failure of much of the American press to uncover — and provide
some prominence to — the private doubts and even the public case
against the war was, in my view, its most egregious failure in my 50
years in journalism. The press has done much better in recent years,
since the war began in March 2003, unraveling many of the false
pretenses that sent the U.S. to war and many other stories that the Bush
administration didn't want told. But it was before the war when the
chips were really down, and it is usually only when a president is
noticeably weakened that the press gets noticeably bolder. So this
story, though not exactly new, needs to remain fresh in people's minds
if the press is to do better when it is most needed.
