Description:
This larger group was formed to organize activists in Minneapolis on the issues of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) and Election Integrity. Organizing starting after the NE Minneapolis Democracy for America Group endorsed two local initiatives: 1) The Minneapolis Better Ballot Campaign (a campaign to use IRV for city elections) and 2) Citizens for Election Integrity-MN.
After the IRV victory in the 2006 Minneapolis election, IRV efforts have moved on to St. Paul. NE Mpls DFA has also endorsed the St. Paul 2007 effort and pledged volunteers. Now you can do the same.
Nationally, DFA has used Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) to select candidates for endorsement and it is used in their home city of Burlington, Vermont. At least 9 other DFA state affiliates have worked on IRV related issues (CA, MA, MI, MO, NH, NJ, TX, UT, WA). The formation of this group now adds MN to that growing list and includes our local effort to get the IRV charter amendment on the ballot in St. Paul for the November 2007 elections.
An increasing number of DFA state affiliates also have projects labeled with the terms election reform, election protection, and election integrity. These groups look at issues of barriers to voter registration; ease of use, accuracy, and security of our voting equipment; and the use of auditing and verified paper trails to ensure a transparent voting process. Nationally DFA has taken a stand on all of the above issues and this group is meant to be a sounding board for local activities on this topic. The group will have frequent updates from both Citizens for Election Integrity-MN and FairVote-MN on these issues. Both groups are also strong supporters of Instant Runoff Voting for Minneapolis elections.
