Feasible study on run!

Written by: Titus Nez on Mar 12, 2008 4:14 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Democracy for Gallup-McKinley County

Hello:

 My name is Titus Nez, an I am a proud member of Mckinley County, and a very proud Democrat. I am 19 turning 20 on March 15. I am planning on running for County Clerk, and I am wondering what do you guys think? IS it possible to do it? Do I have a chance? I mean come on, the politics today are different from yesterday. We may have a African American President or even a Female President. Wht not a 19 year old, 20ish County Clerk?

How do I qualify? Well I am currently working in a office environment, and with people. I am build character skills, and even have an opinion in issues facing our community. So I am hoping I can get some input, and hope to get your support for office: Lets make a change by electing a 20ish year old to McKinley County Clerk. Thank you very much, and God Bless.

Respectfully,

Titus Nez

Make sure you know what the job actually is before you ask voters to put you in it, but if you want that job and know you can do it, go for it.

Titus, it really shouldn't be anything to do with age unless there is an age requirement for the job. I would check that.

I agree with Phil, first find out what the job requires and decide if you even want to do it and if you would be good at it.

If so, then get good advisors who have run WINNING campaigns in the past and have won using honest methods. Don't be swayed by their sales pitch, ask to see the record of the campaigns they have run and won before and talk to the people whose campaigns those were.

Good luck!

Governor suggests no potty breaks

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says the fastest way to resolve the state deficit is to lock him up with legislators a room for three days - and ban bathroom breaks.

"All we have to do is lock ourselves in a room for three days and not go outside - and not even be allowed to go to the bathroom," Schwarzenegger said Monday while touring a training facility in Fairfield. "And then we’ll be getting upset because it starts smelling in the room a little bit. And all of a sudden, we will come to an agreement."

It's unclear how effective his potty ban would be. Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata unsuccessfully locked down the Senate last summer during the 52-day budget stalemate. Though they had to sleep in chairs, senators were given food and allowed to visit the loo. ...full article: http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/cap...

Californians among the world's richest

Californians take up more than 100 slots on Forbes magazine's annual list of the richest people in the world. ...

...In California, the richest resident, continues to be Larry Ellison of Oracle, who ranks No. 14 in the world.

Google billionaires Sergey Brin and Larry Page are California's next richest, each ranked 32nd and 33rd worldwide with net worths, respectively, of $18.7 billion and $18.6 billion.

Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, is the youngest billionaire on the list with $1.5 billion and a rank of No. 785.

Also on the list: Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay, who ranks No. 897. That may not sound great at first, but her $1.3 billion fortune is more than enough to self-fund a bid for governor. ...

Don't know if anyone noticed the National Enquirer this week.

Cover story is "Obama's Secrets" and trumpets that he is friends with a terrorist. Yes, here we go again. The "terrorist" is someone who was once a member of the Weather Underground. Geez.

Now the interesting thing about all this is who the owner of the Enquirer is -- Ron Burkle, a Clinton supporter who recently also peddled a story of a John Edwards "love child". Hmmm.

Read more here, and yes they printed the turban photo again:

Ferraro leaves Clinton campaign post By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer
12 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Geraldine Ferraro stepped down Wednesday from an honorary post in Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign amid a controversy regarding her comments that Barack Obama wouldn't be succeeding in the race for the White House if he weren't black...

Earlier Wednesday, Obama dismissed Ferraro's remarks as "ridiculous," and his campaign aides have demanded Clinton denounce her assertions.

"I think they were wrong-headed," he said at a Chicago news conference. "The notion that it is a great advantage to me to be an African American named Barack Obama and pursue the presidency, I think, is not a view that has been commonly shared by the general public."

He also often has his head in the clouds, along with his feet, and has that fellow who hates russia and whose name I can't spell or even remember right now..as an advisor. Bryzinski? The guy has proven to be a player in administrations - an important player and one I don't like.

And we have russian planes coming in close to our mainland. Are we headed for war with Russia now too, with Bryzinski pushing BO all the way?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ya. He surely pushed Carter into war didn't he? I remember all those wars during the Carter years. Hated that.
Hi folks,
Just a quick hello.  Yes, Volney and Monica, my husband and I noticed the headlines on the National Enquirer in the supermarket yesterday.  I think they are terribly irresponsible. What I recall are three: the first said Obama had close ties with terrorists; the second said that he had a relationship with a felon; and the third said there were screaming fights between him and his wife over other women.  I find this sickening especially because of the racism and terrorism threats this current administration has used for seven years on the American public.
I'm glad you both mentioned this. It's completely irresponsible, fear mongering, racist, and dangerous.
I'm looking forward to Ketih's commen tonight.
In the latest issue of  Time, someone in the Arkasas legislature commented that Bill Clinton would clap you on the back and pee on your leg.  Not very flattering, but does graphically indicate the level of mistrust some have for the Clintons.  Another comment about HIllary is that winning is the only thing that's important.  Somehow that seems to me short sighted, sort of tempting the fates.
Later alligators.
Zbigniew Brzezinski
The Grand Chessboard
American Primacy And It's Geostrategic Imperatives
Key Quotes From Zbigniew Brzezinksi's Seminal Book
"Ever since the continents started interacting politically, some five hundred years ago, Eurasia has been the center of world power."- (p. xiii)
"... But in the meantime, it is imperative that no Eurasian challenger emerges, capable of dominating Eurasia and thus of also challenging America. The formulation of a comprehensive and integrated Eurasian geostrategy is therefore the purpose of this book.” (p. xiv)
"In that context, how America 'manages' Eurasia is critical. A power that dominates Eurasia would control two of the world's three most advanced and economically productive regions. A mere glance at the map also suggests that control over Eurasia would almost automatically entail Africa's subordination, rendering the Western Hemisphere and Oceania geopolitically peripheral to the world's central continent. About 75 per cent of the world's people live in Eurasia, and most of the world's physical wealth is there as well, both in its enterprises and underneath its soil. Eurasia accounts for about three-fourths of the world's known energy resources." (p.31)
“Never before has a populist democracy attained international supremacy. But the pursuit of power is not a goal that commands popular passion, except in conditions of a sudden threat or challenge to the public's sense of domestic well-being. The economic self-denial (that is, defense spending) and the human sacrifice (casualties, even among professional soldiers) required in the effort are uncongenial to democratic instincts. Democracy is inimical to imperial mobilization." (p.35)
“The momentum of Asia's economic development is already generating massive pressures for the exploration and exploitation of new sources of energy and the Central Asian region and the Caspian Sea basin are known to contain reserves of natural gas and oil that dwarf those of Kuwait, the Gulf of Mexico, or the North Sea." (p.125)
"In the long run, global politics are bound to become increasingly uncongenial to the concentration of hegemonic power in the hands of a single state. Hence, America is not only the first, as well as the only, truly global superpower, but it is also likely to be the very last." (p.209)
"Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multi-cultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstance of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat." (p. 211)
Zbigniew Brzezinski's Background
According to his resume, Zbigniew Brzezinski lists the following achievements:
Harvard Ph.D. in 1953
Counselor, Center for Strategic and International Studies
Professor of American Foreign Policy, Johns Hopkins University
National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter (1977-81)
Trustee and founder of the Trilateral Commission
International advisor of several major US/Global corporations
Associate of Henry Kissinger
Under Ronald Reagan - member of NSC-Defense Department Commission on Integrated Long-Term Strategy
Under Ronald Reagan - member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board
Past member, Board of Directors, The Council on Foreign Relations
1988 - Co-chairman of the Bush National Security Advisory Task Force.
Brzezinski is also a past attendee and presenter at several conferences of the Bilderberger group - a non-partisan affiliation of the wealthiest and most powerful families and corporations on the planet.
What a nice man .... not!
“It is also a fact that America is too democratic at home to be autocratic abroad. This limits the use of America's power, especially its capacity for military intimidation. Never before has a populist democracy attained international supremacy. But the pursuit of power is not a goal that commands popular passion, except in conditions of a sudden threat or challenge to the public's sense of domestic well-being. The economic self-denial (that is, defense spending) and the human sacrifice (casualties, even among professional soldiers) required in the effort are uncongenial to democratic instincts. Democracy is inimical to imperial mobilization." (p.35)
"Two basic steps are thus required: first, to identify the geostrategically dynamic Eurasian states that have the power to cause a potentially important shift in the international distribution of power and to decipher the central external goals of their respective political elites and the likely consequences of their seeking to attain them;... second, to formulate specific U.S. policies to offset, co-opt, and/or control the above..." (p. 40)
"...To put it in a terminology that harkens back to the more brutal age of ancient empires, the three grand imperatives of imperial geostrategy are to prevent collusion and maintain security dependence among the vassals, to keep tributaries pliant and protected, and to keep the barbarians from coming together." (p.40)
"Henceforth, the United States may have to determine how to cope with regional coalitions that seek to push America out of Eurasia, thereby threatening America's status as a global power." (p.55)
"Uzbekistan, nationally the most vital and the most populous of the central Asian states, represents the major obstacle to any renewed Russian control over the region. Its independence is critical to the survival of the other Central Asian states, and it is the least vulnerable to Russian pressures." (p. 121)
Titus,
I agree. Do your homework about the position, then if you decide to go for it, don't let your age stand in the way.
Just remember to keep a hold of your "moral center" and check in with it from time to time.
For the most part,  just stand up for what is right, being honest , and voters will reward you for it.
Best of luck.
Mr. Nez,
Why don't you run for a seat on your Precinct or County Committee, President of your College Democratic Club or maybe even a seat on your local School Board before you take a shot at County Clerk. You might even try to get an internship with a campaign or at one of your representatives local offices while you're earning your accounting degree and MBA. I hope you like math.
County Clerks administer oath's of office. Here the one I have taken several times.
"I, Susan Rowe, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter.
There is also this (click link) document that candidates are required by law to read and sign in California along with a lot of other paper work at their County Clerk's Office.
Internships at DFA
Democracy for America (DFA) is looking for creative, motivated college students who want to help give a new energy to the Democratic movement. Together with local grassroots communities, we are focusing on local races and building the farm team of potential candidates for the future. We are actively seeking interns and volunteers—from across the country—to help us build the future of the Democratic Party. We have internships available on many of the teams at DFA, including:
Field/Community
Field/Community interns are the first line of support for our groups in turning online activism into off-line action: shaping public policy, electing progressive officials, and fighting in the trenches to take our country back. Our field interns have helped organize dozens of Iraq war forums and SiCKO screenings and support endorsed candidates by working with local DFA groups and activists to build grassroots involvement in the campaign. As a field/community intern, you'll help expand DFA's grassroots network by working directly with over 750 local DFA groups around the country.
Political
DFA endorses progressive candidates from the school board to the presidency. These are people working to take back their country in every corner of the every state. Political interns play an important role in the endorsement process. Your job is to find these candidates and research their stories. But this isn't just an office job; past interns have traveled to work on campaigns around the Northeast including Ned Lamont's and Peter Welch's. Every race and every candidate comes one step closer to taking the country back. If you want to be involved in races across the country, this is the internship for you. Political background encouraged. Research and writing skills a must!
Communications
Become a vital part of the communications department by assisting with research, writing, and editing, media tracking, and e-mail correspondence. Communications interns need to have excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.
Technology
There are many roles to fill within the Web Team at DFA; you can work as a blogger, assist our systems administrator, code PHP applications or manage our online community. All tasks require you to work quickly and independently.
Some of the skills we can put to good use:
Good writing skills and a clear, casual blogging style
Proficiency with online search tools (Google, Lexis-Nexis)
Political news junkie
Proofreading/editing
HTML
PHP/MySQL
Web/Graphic Design
Previous experience managing a forum or message board
Database administration and desktop support
Finance
Learn the ins and outs of DFA's fundraising operation by becoming a finance intern. As part of the finance team, you will conduct donor research, prepare and manage call time, assist with event planning, follow-up with donors, analyze and track data, as well as perform other administrative duties. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about political fundraising and build a strong foundation of supporters through our direct mail, phone, and e-mail programs.
Training Academy
Putting the 50-state strategy into practice, the DFA Training Academy has trained over 13,000 activists since 2004. Our unique weekend trainings go where we're needed most, whether it's New Hampshire, Utah, Texas, or elsewhere. Working in direct contact with local grassroots organizations and top tier Democratic campaign advisors, you will work to ensure that each training weekend runs smoothly. In addition to learning valuable organizing and campaign experience, all DFA training interns get to attend at least one weekend training for free.
Dozens of progressive campaigns have their origins at the DFA Training Academy. The training intern position will provide you with a rare and exciting chance to be active in the first steps of successful campaigns across the country.
